Alex Turner was 19 when he wrote that masterpiece that Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not. It's unbelievable because it sounds great and is a lyrically brilliant album.

While I still love Arctic Monkeys, I do really miss this era, especially Alex Turner's old voice. It's comforting, nostalgic, hits me right in the feels.
I hate so much how he sings now and the weird man he grew into. It’s like a bad parody of a really bad lounge singer. He should have stayed in England.
Jordon Brewer I agree 100%. This album is incredible and absolutely their best. I know they will never be able to recreate something so genuine and thoroughly amazing ever again (sadly).
+Katie Medlin oh yes, this album is fucking magic, that can never be created again. but they could cut it with the slow, unoriginal garbage they've been giving us.
Jordon Brewer Exactly!! This greaser, cool-guy facade they've been giving us the last two albums is pushing me over the brink. I am holding out some hope for the next album, but Alex's side project also mirrored the negative turn the Monkey's took. All I can do is hope for the best in the future :( pray for faster songs and good lyrics haha
+Katie Medlin precisely, I understand smoking has stunned Alex's ability to sing. but he can still write good lyrics, and he doesn't even need to do the rap-speed songs that he used to, all in asking for is higher tempo'd songs and the Shakespearean esque peotry he used to write. and I know that seems like a bit much to ask, but the bands magic came from Turner's story telling. "OH YOUVE SAVED ME, she screams down the line. The ban was fuckin' WANK! And I'm not having a nice time." "anticipation has a habit to set you up, for disappointment in evening entertainment, but..." "and she wont be surprised and she wont be shocked when she's pressed the star after she's pressed on lock and there's verse and chapter sat on her inbox, and all it says, is that you drank allot." And if you look through AM there actually is some clever writing here and there. Turner is still capable of good writing, he just fucking doesn't. and it makes me really fucking ANGRY!
The lyrics in this song are just brilliant, the arctic monkeys revolutionised 21st century uk indie rock, it's a shame though that there are now so many bands that have come about on the back of these guys success.
That’s Nick O’Malley for you:) He didn’t write the bass part though. Their previous bassist Andy Nicholson did. He left the band due to fatigue and mental health issues, so Nick stepped in for him.

That was the sound at the time. In a way, I wish it still was. But Arctic Monkeys were more raw than The Strokes. More honest and relatable and pure. To me anyway.
