It's been 3 years since this video hit RUclips and I"m just now seeing it. I wadded myself at Saddleback 2 in Jan 2002. My buddies contacted David and he put a video together with himself, McGrath, and Carmichael. I still have it today. I have no words for the impact it had in lifting me out of the deepest funk I've ever been in. I too was paralyzed at the same level as David so he knew exactly what I was going through. He followed up with a phone call a few days after the video was delivered to me in the hospital (BTW, it was so well done the nurses & doctors treating me all cried when they say it). We talked for a couple hours, which helped me in ways I didn't know I needed. I will be forever grateful for the time he took to do all that for me. He was and still is an Icon and shinning example of what a true "champion" is. Let's not overlook his wife. She's cut from the same cloth. 3 of 4 relationships/marriages fail after such a catastrophic event. The women leave, some with valid reason, others not so much. Gina is an example to be modeled after worldwide. Incredible people...
David Bailey is an american motocross treasure true legend not just for his racing but also as a asset to the motocross world. Thank you David and whiskey throttle.
Followed David since he first sat on a Honda. Unadilla, Southwick, to Gatorback and Daytona all through the 80's. Watched him win the Foxboro SX with "Patriots" on the back of his riding pants. Nothing but class and style. I still have the dayglo colored t-shirts from the many races I attended. I am so happy he is healthy. A one of a kind Legend.
I rode that 1986 CR 125 & won FL 125A State Championship holeshotting every moto of the Gold Cup Series. Burst my C1 that fall though in Mini O's SX... Still made 12th in SX, 3rd in TT, and a top 5 in Mx moto... before pulling off. I was on couch all of 87. 2 weeks off couch, I swept both 1988 Gatorback Winter Am 125A Motos on a Cagiva... Loved David Bailey. Took one day class with his dad Gary in 1980 when I was Mini B. I went from 15ths at Mini Os or Winter Ams to top 5 the next race. I was #798 Glenn Somerville.
I grew up watching step dad Professor Bailey back when he ran the Bell Star with the flat visor on the Bultaco. He was awesome and to watch David's progress must have been all worth the hard work.
Can’t believe I missed this episode for the last year. Been a long time David Bailey fan. For the last third of that interview I sat here at the table in total silence with my head in my hands listening to David softly talk about what’s real. Struggle, failure, rising again, success and peace. Just the best. Thanks for having him on.
Thank You David Bailey! I needed that shot of inspiration. Glad you didn't leave that book on the shelf, and thanks for speaking out about your faith. I think your dad must be looking down from Heaven and saying THAT's MY BOY! Also I think your wife must be a blessing from above as well. For sticking it out with you through the for better and for worst parts of life! Thanks Again David! I needed that! May God Continue To Bless You And Your Family!

I believe myself to be 1 of the biggest David Bailey fans ever, in the 80's growing up in the hood on the outskirts of Washington DC the dream of being a motocross rider like David would get me through the tuff times of the streets. Gun fire, dope being sold, people acting crazy or whatever I could escape in my mind and look at the David Bailey poster on my wall and say I'm a race one day a be good like David. The memories of watching his races and the other dudes saved me in low times. I thank him David Bailey #1
David is a true hero and what a roll model should be. I rode Bultaco's with him and he was a shy kid. But when he got on that bike...look out. What he has accomplished after his accident is amazing. What a MAN! He is a true hero. Tim Sexton
David's tender hearted conscientiousness, makes him a standout amongst his peers. His daily challenges are magnified due to extra sense of awareness. Pray for David friends.
yeah spraying fire extinguishers in hotel rooms really show superb awareness of the people that have to clean up the mess that over payed children make he WAS a great rider but totally unaware of his own actions in alot of situations the fact that instead of appreciating his status he used it as a way to act more like a spoiled brat than a young ambassador of the sport he should be ashamed of those stories all you over payed brats that never worked in a factory and really had to work through 12 -16 hour days make me irritated you pukes go get an actual job sitting talking is NOT ACTUAL WORK DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA WHAT THE POOR PERSON CLEANING THOSE HOTEL ROOMS GETS PAYED ?ALL THE CRAP MORONS DO
Met David once, he had an awful night in the Kingdome. It was a different time, my friend and I offered to help him carry his lawn chairs and other stuff back to his box van. He graciously accepted, it was obvious that he was so frustrated that night he didn't want to interact with anyone and yet he handled his disappointing evening with grace. Great respect, David is a gracious loser, a classy winner, and has proven to be an admirable human being. I wish I knew him better.
One of my most memorable moments of David Bailey as a commentator was when he called out Damon Bradshaw's move on Ryan Hughes at the 1996 Washougal National. They were approaching the corner and David called it out before the pass took place. David Bailey is still the best commentator ever. He was just brilliant in the way he calls things out and he has a lot of funny side comments.
Sincere thanks guys for having Mr. Bailey on your show. Also thanks for just letting him tell his story. Such a humble, eloquent man. My favorite WT show yet.
Thank you Whiskey Throttle for another great show and an extra thank you to David Bailey, a living MX legend who I feel defined racing smart. I am a big fan of his and always enjoy listening to his commentaries which usually include a relative story to what just happened on the track. So well spoken, humble and entertaining. In closing, thanks to GL too, he is ensightful as a commentator in his own right. The best show ever and I know there is more coming from you DP
David is the most amazing human being, the public, outside of the motorcycle community, needs to hear his story. What an inspiring amazing story he has!!
I was Lucky enough to have my Bicycle shop in the path of the RAAM race starts in California and ended up in the east coast. I was hoping to see David riding with his custom racing chair. But still was able to see Jeff Ward riding by the shop. It was cool and still star struck over these amazing Moto Heros. David is a inspiration for me to enjoy Life even with set backs, they make me stronger knowing David has accomplished in life after ricing.
Met David while we were both very young in early 70's. He was helping out his stepfather Gary put on mx schools at racetrack my dad was one of the owners of. Gary designed much of the track which eventually held nationals for three years (Motomasters Park Mapleview, NY). Seeing this podcast brought tears to my eyes going through the obstacles he had to go through. Even then as young boys i could see his natural riding talents at the schools but more importantly his respectful kind nature. I knew whatever he did in life he would succeed. He's certainly accomplished more post injury than pre. I'm so glad his father shared the bible with him as that is his anchor! Great job whiskey throttle for bringing out this remarkable story!
David tells the best stories!!!what a fascinating guy... I've always looked up to him but after this interview I dig him even more.what a class act this guy is!!!!!

Stretch some more metal till it shrieks, then repeat. The noise a bike makes when it lands a double short with a dead engine. Thud and stretching frame, and bottoming suspension. But this was over and over again, maybe 10 reps. I walked towards it and found it was Langston, carrying the front wheel in the air as he went through a section of stadium whoops.
