Sophie Thatcher who plays sister Barnes was already in the series "Yellowjackets" and in "The Book Of Boba Fat", also in the horror movies "Boogieman" and "MaXXXine". The thing is that she is extremely versatile and looks completely different in every role and even her mannerisms change depending on the role she plays. She is amazing.
So much went into this movie. The research was so accurate, Incredible acting, the cinematography was absolutely magnificent. Nice to see a movie with no CGI that relied on brilliant acting. I’ll have to see it again to pick up more little details.

I loved the way they treated their faith and characters honestly, I'm not religious anymore and not a Mormon but I grew up in an orthodox Seventh Day Adventist church and many elements were similar. It wasn't straight mocking like I had assumed, they actually gave them the opportunity to stand up for themselves and their beliefs and they (and their religion) were hardly the 'enemy' in any way really which is normally how these religious horrors go.
The mind manipulation, gaslighting, power & control of the mormons is spot on! I got away after decades. Ive noted in comments others now calling themselves "progressive mormons" Its so sad people cant let go and run the other way.

There was a pie. No one noticed that I guess. The supposedly dead woman ate a blueberry pie, and did a wonderful acting job, acting like a zombie. The movie was horrible but at least there was one good actress, the one that pretended she was dead 🙄 😅
I love how Hugh Grant goes deeper on the script and how he would translate it into acting... And how his co-star could react to make a good scene... Like a good throw or serve in a ping-pong. He's method of acting is really good.
Thoroughly enjoyed watching this movie especially how well the characters played off each other and all the little details. Definitely gonna rewatch it a number of times

He was so threatening/intimidating because he came across so non threatening and gracious but these 2 women know he's a psychopath and he's in complete control of the situation. He showed no signs of aggression or intent to intimidate or physically harm them he just said here go right ahead and walk through either of these doors to your doom. This guy who talked so much the whole time when he was silent it was unsettling.
Chloe East was really good in this, she was a totally different person by the end. A great job. All the cast were fantastic though, as was the film, what a trip!

He might not like the aspect of fame that involves interviewing and promoting a film, but he sure had great fun playing that role. Its evident in his performance. You can love what you do and hate what comes with it. Its like how people can love their job but hate the staff meetings.
I’m sure you probably are already aware of this or maybe it’s just great casting, but Sophie Thatcher plays the younger version of Juliette Lewis on the Showtime series Yellowjackets (both seasons are on Paramount+ w/ Showtime, the first is on Netflix). She’s very talented - I first saw her in an indie sci-fi film called Prospect (also currently on Paramount+ as well as Peacock). She co-stars with Jay Duplass and Pedro Pascal; it came out in 2018. The casting news came out about Pascal to play Joel in The Last of Us afterwards and I strongly pointed towards this movie as being the reason I believed he could really pull off Joel well, but also thought Thatcher would be an actress to watch out for. She definitely doesn’t disappoint in Yellowjackets (skip the previews, just dive right in - along with Thatcher and Lewis, it also stars an ensemble cast of Ella Purnell, Cristina Ricci, Melanie Lynskey, Jasmin Savoy-Brown, Courtney Eaton, Tawny Cypress, Sophie Nélisse, and Samantha Hanratty… basically a long list of actors who are beloved established actresses with 20 years of filmography or more, and the up-and-coming next generation of young starlets with Thatcher and Purnell and Savoy-Brown being the most established so far).
Chloe East is so much more beautiful here, and towards the ending. I think the director sucessfully nerded her look at the beginning. She became my favourite after the fillm.

i felt like the point of the film is that intellectualism is not sufficient: if you simply deduce religions are fake and you have nothing else to fill that void with - you will become a monstrous nihilist. It kind of demonstrates that despite being factually wrong, religion or spirituality does play some role in keeping people tethered to their humanity and empathy. as an atheist, i personally don't need either religion or spirituality for that - but many people do. in other words, "truth" isn't just about what is factually true - but also about the values we choose to live our lives by. Reed is technically correct about everything he says but he still lacks a certain aspect that the girls (despite being "fooled" by a cult) possess which is empathy
My favorite horror movie this year😩 As someone who took a class studying the different types of religion and being as equally open-minded as I am skeptical, I loved this depiction

Hugh Calling the angel Moroni - moroney was improvised and the girls correcting him and pronouncing the name correctly wasn’t part of the script at all. But they kept it in because a true LDS would correct him in real life if the angel name was pronounced incorrectly.
