DINNERS
3 bowls with rice, carrot fritters, veggie mix, and crispy chickpeas
2 with scrambled eggs
⭐️BAGELS
1 1/3 cup flour
1 cup greek yogurt - I used 1 small container
2 tsp baking powder
3/4 tsp salt
1 egg white for brushing on the bagels at the end
*water - enough to just blend in (won't need this if you have the full 1 cup of greek yogurt)
Mix flour with baking powder and salt, then add yogurt and mix. Knead for 4-5 minutes then roll into bagels. Brush egg white onto the bagels then add any toppings. Bake at 375 for 25 minutes.
⭐️CARROT SOUP -Makes 2 servings
1 lb carrots - I was 2 carrots shy
1/2 can chickpeas -or use dried
vegetable bouillon to taste
1/8 tsp cumin
1/8 tsp curry
1-2 tbs olive oil - or whatever oil you want to use
pepper to taste
Topping
Bagel croutons - or use bread croutons. Just cut into squares add garlic salt and maybe some parsley then toast in toaster oven until crispy.
Boil and then simmer a good long while until flavors have time to develop. The carrots will sweeten over time. Then use hand masher or immersion blender. Add to blender if you want it velvety smooth.
Optional add ins- coconut milk. Could also use real onions to saute before adding carrots and chickpeas.
⭐️CARROT FRITTERS
2 carrots shredded
1/3 flour
1/8 tsp cumin
1/8 tsp salt
1 egg
Add all ingredients and fry
*some people like to add curry powder into their carrot fritters
would be good with raisins

I think you could still do it for $5 if you didn’t have to buy it all at once. What I mean is buying 30 days of food for $50 would go further than 3 days of food for $5, just because you could take advantage of the lower per meal cost of a bag of dry beans, a dozen eggs, etc. I’m sure you know that already, but it does make it interesting to see you put it together with such small amounts.
That's a good idea! Although, AM 's recipes are very inventive and a good guide to only got a couple of dollats.
oh yes, of course it's going to be way cheaper to buy it one month at a time. 👍 and I actually buy some of my staples once every 6 months.
Some people might not have the $50 dollars. Might be waiting on some money and need to make smaller shopping trips.
Michelle, you did it again. I would frankly never thought of carrot fritters! But, I do think you could use Almond flour for added protein and it could be better for me as I try to watch my carbs. Also, the idea of cinnamon and raisins added made my mouth water.
I also, love my shredder too! I actually scored mine brand new -still in box and plastic at a Goodwill for 5 bucks.
Wow!! How creative! You can't even get one happy meal for five bucks!!
yeah it's so ridiculous how expensive fast food has become.
Did y’all see the fancy banana at 11:54!!! Love it!!
Smart move to switch out the cup of noodles for the chickpeas.
We shred up carrot and add to tuna salad. Can use a small amount of pasta . Also have found buying frozen chopped peppers to keep on hand to mix with scrambled eggs or other things way cheaper than buying a single fresh pepper
I like using frozen peppers also. Thanks for the tip on the tuna salad.
@Suebearish That's how I make tuna salad as well when I want tuna as a lunch/meal and not a tuna salad sandwich. It is very tasty. Carrots are quite versatile.
I love all your videos, but today we got three dinners AND a show!
Between "These are a lot of work and look ugly," followed by "This just feels wrong," I am over here LOL and ROLLING.😂
Unintentional comedy is the best!🤣
Now I am going to HAVE to try making bagels.
You are truly an inspiration...on so many levels! ❤
I'm so glad you were laughing with me. 😂 I found it quite comical myself 😂 If I can do it, you certainly can! Plus they were actually very good! If you want them to be perfect, use bread flour. The extra protein in the bread flour makes them chewier.
I agree. Lol. I definitely will try this bagel recipe.
Laughing my head off because my food typically looks ugly toooo💕 buuuut, it tastes good and always gets eaten 😋
You can make aquafaba, a type of whipped cream, with the reserved water from the canned chick peas.
I recommend Brown soup. 2 onions, 1 bag of the frozen California mix, 2 cans of Romano beans. And veg or chicken bouillon with water. After it’s cooked - blend. If the budget is bigger add tiny pasta. And if the budget is even bigger. Add parm.
Thanks for sharing this. 😁
Its sad that life has come down to this for alot of people. God bless America!
😂 I laughed out loud so hard when you said this is a lot of work and this is ugly lol reminds me of if I ever tried baking. I totally am with you I’m not a baker. I would have stopped 1/3 of the way and said nope, but you stuck with it and did it, that deserves a pat on the back right there! 🎉 great job!
just keeping it real 😂 However, I was so happy with the outcome, I might make them again. 😁
I think they are beautiful and delicious as you say, don't need to compare them to store bought ones, most of them are manufactured by machines and hand made ones are always better :) And, you get better at it the more you work it :) @@ArdentMichelle
I have never tried a bagel. I just looked online and a 4 pack is $5.49, specialty item hence the price. Yours looked wonderful, will definitely try making these in the next few days! Have visions of pulling one from the freezer as required, how frugal would that be!❤
Thanks for sharing your baking journey, l did have a chuckle 😅, but appreciate that you didn't give up and persistence paid off, they looked very yummy when you baked them
thanks for sharing in my amusement. 😂
Your channel provides a valuable service in this economic climate. I like your calm voice, too.
Thanks! 😃
Your bagels are gorgeous, and your dinners look restaurant worthy fabulous. Thanks, I’m going to try all these recipes!
I agree!
Glad you like them!
I LOVE THAT BANANA!!
Great video as always!!
Thank you 😁
had no idea bagels could be made at home so easily. maybe a video on all the things you can do with flour, like pasta, tortillas, soda bread, and now bagels. nothing with yeast and rising. would be so much cheaper than buying those things.
that doesn't sound fun though 😂 however, its a great idea for a video. I've made tortillas several times.
When I make the 2 ingredient bagels, I always make them round and poke a hole in the middle. I tried making blueberry bagels once and used frozen blueberries. Don't ever do that lol! The next batch I'm going to make will be made with vanilla whole milk yogurt with cinnamon and (maybe) dried cranberries. I also made a tortilla/flatbread with the same recipe and it was really nice making breakfast tacos with them! 👍🏾👍🏾 So much you can do with that dough. Some also made cinnamon buns with it.
True 👍
Sounds like a great recipe
The 2 ingredient dough is very versatile. The bagel 🥯 looked good, well done for a first attempt✔️✔️
I am always totally and completely blown away watching you stretch a dollar and still enjoy yummy and nutritious foods. You rock!
I came across your video while looking for ways to save on groceries. I live in Australia and I know our wages are higher then yours but not that much. Your $5 stash would have cost me $13.88 at Woolworths. Eggs $3.75 Yoghurt $1.50 1 tomato .71 Frozen vegetables $2.50 Brown rice $2.50 Chickpeas $1.00 Carrots $1.20 and 1 banana .72. I think I would like my wages but your grocery prices. Thank you for an interesting video I'm going to try the bagels they look good.
welcome 😁
Michelle. I think you did a brilliant job getting the most out of $5 ish for three days of meals. Not only are the nine meals frugal, they are extremely appetizing - and that is quite a feat!
If a person needed to continue along these budget restrictions indefinitely, how do you think they should add the needed calories?
I’m thinking that a trip to a food pantry often nets a jar of peanut butter…could that be used for a spicy sauce/topping for some of these meals? I’m trying to think of ways to get additional calories, but other than adding peanut butter or more oil, I am stumped. Adding some sugar would add (empty) calories - would that even be worth it?
Again, I think you are doing a wonderful service to many who live on a tight food budget. Your videos are also educational for those who have more wiggle room in the grocery budget, because you show such interesting ways to add healthy flavor to food.
Thank you so much 😁
I like the idea of adding peanut butter, nuts, and also avocado. One avocado where I live is only .68 but may not be affordable in some areas.
I'm kind of having the same issue. I'm eating whole foods and laying off of dairy (cheese is a big one for me) and trying to make sure I'm getting enough calories. The rice is calorie rich and so is oil. I like to use olive oil and sesame oil because they are good for you, but some people can't afford those oils. I would say that bread is another cheap way to get in some additional calories.
I didn't realize bagels were so easy to make... I thought there was a trick or something, lol! I'm going to have to master at making my cinnamon raisin ones...
Hope you enjoy
I guess now i have to try these bagels ❤
it's a must 👍
It takes someone truly special to have the creativity, knowledge and kindness in sharing these wonderful recipes. I really appreciate the time and effort too that you use in putting this all together in an appealing way. I reckon the nutrition in these recipes is still good given the tight budget and having little to work with. You even make it look enjoyable to prepare. Thank you! xx
Thank you so much 🥰
I'm glad you showed the bagels, I forgot about those and they wiggly be so much cheaper than buying them. The cheapest I can find are 3.67 and I eat half of one every day, so now I'm gonna have to make them! Don't be so hard on yourself or your bagels, rustic are just as tasty and pretty.
awe....thanks. 😁 Yay! 🥳 I'm glad you're going to make the bagels. I'm sure you will do a much better job than me. I'll post the recipes shortly.
The bagels look amazing! How could you doubt yourself?! You rock!
💜 you are kind! Thank you.
i love how you cut the banana for breakfast!! always great ideas--amazing how you always come up with new tasty budget ideas!
Thanks so much! 😊
Great ideas! I applaud the bagel commitment. That was a lot of work and this is ugly. So funny
glad you like this and found the humor in this 😂
What a neat idea with chickpeas. I might try that.
I commented earlier without having seen the whole video. This is one of your best ever! So many great ideas. The bagels on a tight budget are inspiring, and along with the thwarted congee plan go a long way toward lending that sensation of abundance. Your gorgeous plating adds to this as well, as do the little things like crispy chickpeas (which I will make probably tomorrow!). I still can't believe how you achieved those gorgeous bagels with so few ingredients and no boiling. And carrot fritters! Brilliant!
Thank you 😁
"That was a lot of work, and this is ugly." ROFLLLLLLLLLLLLL Hey, as long as it tastes good....
true 👍
I love the bagel idea, they look delicious! It's amazing how much food you make on such a tight budget! $10 for 5 work days @ 3 meals daily would be interesting .
could do this 🤔
Amazing I was so pleased to see what you made
Had me laughing when you said “that was a lot of work and this is ugly.”
I appreciate what you do to make these video challenges interesting. I never go hungry when I have one of your videos to inspire me. You come up with great meals!!
awe....thanks so much! 😁
The carrot soup and the carrot fritters looked amazing! I really would like to see your pineapple fried rice some time. Sounds delicious!! Thank you, Michelle!
welcome 😁
Once again your creativity has blown me away. I too love crispy chickpeas. They are so addictive!
thank you so much 💜
I had no idea it was possible to make TWO ingredient bagels! I'm going to have to try that! (I'm not a baker either, so we'll see how that goes lol!) I don't comment much, but I watch all of your videos and have learned quite a bit from them! I appreciate you. :) I'm also going to try those carrot fritters. Very inventive and I very much appreciate that most of your recipes are vegetarian friendly. Thanks so much and be well!
Thanks and same to you 😁
That was cute how u cut up that banana!
thanks. 😁 I was having a little fun. 😂
I can’t believe how good you are at this! Have you ever done maybe twenty dollars a week, and rolled the stuff over for a four week period of time? That would be fun to watch. Loved the bagels. I bake and they were pretty good! Well done.❤
I've done $25 and $30 per week but I've never rolled it over to the next week. These videos take so long to produce that I can't imagine doing one that extends beyond one week....but I agree - it would be interesting. You can definitely get more bang for your buck by buying in larger quantities.
I work in a school kitchen and we make baked chick peas for the kids with cinnamon and sugar. They actually eat them! I like them too. I also like them savory, but, just another option, if someone is looking for a kinda healthy sweet treat.
thanks for the tip 👍
A fun protein too!
Those carrot fritters look so yummy!
I’m actually regretting being super organised with my baking this morning as I’m wanting bagels now. Sadly they’ll have to wait until tomorrow as I used up all my flour and the other half is picking more up on the way home from work.
A tip if you’ve got access to a stand mixer or food processor, you can ‘knead’ dough with these appliances and it makes bread making a lot easier! I bake several batches of yeasted bread each week and a decent stand mixer takes all the work out of it.
I would love to have a stand mixer. 🤔 Thanks for the tip.
I congratulate you on your creativity and resourcefulness. I really enjoy your channel. Thanks!
welcome 😁
I love these challenges! You do an amazing job to make it as healthy as you can on such a tight budget. Everything looked delicious!
Thank you so much 🥰
Also, the carrot fetters and the bagels are one that I am going to try. Thanks for sharing!
You are so welcome!
I am shocked! Those bagels are the bomb! Amazing...dts/usa
yay! 🥳 glad you like them! I was surprised at how good they were also!
Hi M, I’m passing on a tip I use to stretch left overs , I’m a type 1 diabetic so its for people on a low carb diet. Combine about a cup of protein eg, mince, chicken or tofu cut up small (1/4 inch) , combine with 1 cup chickpea flour, 1 teaspoon each bicarbonate soda, 1 cup milk, baking powder, 1 egg, 1/2 cup frozen mix veg, p & s & any herb . Combine all and fry in non stick pan on med. heat for 7 min each side. Cut into 1/4’s serve with sauce, delicious! Love your channel, keep up the great work, cheers Denise ( Australia)
Thanks for sharing this!
another great video Michelle. You always amaze me with the creativity with just a few simple ingredients that most everyone can get their hands on.
I'm so glad you like this one. This was one of my favorites too!
I loved your ideas! I like that you are able to make smaller bagels as I usually find store-bought ones too filling. I'm going to try making them. Your video was not only creative, but healthy. You made food for 3 days that cost less than one unhealthy purchase from a fast food restaurant!
glad you like my video 😁
This is the most impressive budget meal plan I have seen- looks delicious, as nutritious as possible! Seeing you make bagels makes it seem less impossible to me. I love the alternative perspective on how to treat these ingredients. The carrot pancakes look delicious. I would definitely make them
Thanks so much! 😊
You always work magic in these videos.
thank you 😁
Good deal. Im like you when it comes with baking, especially baking bread. At least we try though! (Ive been experiment with gluten free baking.) Black garlic - I need to try that.
I figured out how to make my own egg drop soup lately. So much cheaper than take out and better too.
Love the carrot fritter idea! I recently found some Mazola bullion (a huge bottle) for like 2 bucks at the 99 cent store. That stuff is so good I use it as a sipping broth. (i stopped drinking coffee last year but sometimes need to drink something warm.)
good recipes!
I was going to make egg drop soup in this video, but I ran out of time. It's been on my bucket list for awhile now.
Glad you like my video! 😁
Another well thought out video this Sunday. I like that you featured carrots and I will be making the soup and other things. Too, the banana you artistically featured for breakfast was not missed. 👏🏻
I'm so glad you like this video. Thanks for letting me know! 🥰 also glad you like my banana food art 😂 I do sometimes enjoy playing with the food. Especially fruit.
Got a big kick out of this video. Do love the grater. Saves a lot of hand work. Have a great week.
Glad you are amused by this weeks video 😂 It's good when we can all laugh together. I agree...the grater makes it so much easier.
THX FOR THE RECIPE CHANNEL..... YOU REALLY ARE A MAJICIAN IN THE KITCHEN
My pleasure
I was looking at the bagel recipe yesterday! We always have bagels in the freezer but since we prefer bagels store bagels and prices in NY are so high now, I was thimk of doing this recipe. I am definitely going to try this and your carrot fritter recipe. Thanks for sharing! 😊
welcome 😁 Hope you enjoy!
Bravo! Great video as always. I tried the bagels for dinner tonight. They were good and very thrifty! It is cold windy and snowy here. I feel a batch of congee coming on. I like to make mine on top of the wood stove.
sounds so cozy. I miss the snow. ❄️ I'm so glad you tried the bagels. Did you use any special topping?
Yes. I used black sesame seeds and granulated garlic. For my next batch, I am going to make mini bagels .Another viewer mentioned to not use frozen blueberries, but I have some dried blueberries I would like to try with some lemon zest. I would also like to try an addition of cheese as you mentioned. I will send you some snow if you would send some sunlight my way!
Lol! I've tried a lot of your baking recipes and they've been really good! Especially the biscuits...😀
Yay! 🥳 Glad you like them! 😁
You just are the most precious person-you literally make my Sunday. Those bagels! Going to try soon. Keep it up, girl ❤
awe...thanks so much 💜
ALSO LIQUIFYING THE REMAINDER CHICKPEAS W/ H20& ADDED TO VINEGAR AND OIL CAN BE A SAVORY SAUCE FOR THE RICE
Bagels look delicious 😋
Rocked it yet again! Do you ever make your own pasta? That’s on my list to start making my own. Lots of chickens being culled right now, but eggs are still cheap in my area. (For now) I’ve got your budget challenges playlist on while I DoorDash. So fun!
Thank you 😁 I've only made pierogies so far.
Maybe I'll make pasta in the future. 🤔 DoorDash and Uber Eats is fun! You get to see the town and see what people are ordering 😂
The darn bagels look pretty! 🤷🏻♀️
😂
Just bought the grater. Will let you know how I like it!!!
Hope you love it as much as I do! It just makes life so much easier! 😁
Gluten free is such a challenge! I get $52 in food stamps & $65 on my insurance otc/healthy foods card so $117..I get social security but have rent & other bills...I like your videos! Small crockpot meals would be good to see
I've been eating some gluten free foods. It's definitely more expensive. I made a short with one of my meals. I've discovered that I could easily go gluten free though.
Wow 🤩 you did a lot with just $5 🥳🎉🥰
Thank you 😁 I'm glad you think so!
Give yourself more credit you did an awesome job!!!
thank you 💜
Love the menu and of course the price 👍
I am trying the bagels. I can’t eat store bought bagels due to the salt content & I miss them. Onion bagels are my favorite. Thank you so much!!!!
I was thinking that the bagels are perfect for people on a special diet.
@@ArdentMichelle Definitely !!!!
You are amazing. I cannot believe you are able to achieve the meals on such a small budget. Brilliant ❤
Thank you so much!
Michelle, don't feel bad about your baking skills. My bisquits always come out like hockey pucks, but I can do excellent casseroles!
😂 this is so me.
Excellent video! Super creative! Thank you for inspiring us!! 😊
Thanks so much! 😊
You amaze me with your creativity and resourcefulness. This was brilliant! Your videos are a gift. Thank you!
Thanks so much 😁
another option to replace the carrot fritters is chive/green onion pancakes. Maangchi has a really good recipe that I've made loads of times. :)
Great idea 👍 anything with onion is going to taste amazing!
Awesome video! I'm sad egg prices are increasing! Personally (in the San Diego area), I am still seeing dozens for under $2.50, but probably not for long. I was cracking up watching you make bagels - for all the bread baking I do, I have yet to attempt bagels! They are intimidating to me, though your recipe is very accessible. Baking breads and bagels has a fairly steep learning curve for sure! When I first started baking sourdough, I followed a lot of no knead recipes and would just dump the dough into a Dutch oven. I eventually learned how to work with dough and what it is supposed to look like, but I did bake nearly every day for 6 months before it started to click! I am inspired to try making bagels now!
yes you should 👍 Yours would be a masterpiece compared to mine 😂 I'm such a novice. Although.....I was very happy with the outcome!
I don't know about masterpiece, I will settle for tasty. :) And wow, bought eggs today and totally ate my words! Spent about 6 dollars a dozen as the cheapest I saw were Eggland's. Ouch!@@ArdentMichelle
@@sameoldsteph wow...that's high. Looking forward to tasting my new seed bread. 😋
Great video as always! Funny enough I was planning to make zucchini fritters this week but now I'm craving carrot ones. Will have to give yours a try. I've never tried making bagels with greek yogurt so will try that too! ;) Just a tip if there is a scale in the store, use it to weigh a few bags of the carrots--you'll find that some are more than the weight they are charging for and that little bit extra can really help if on a restricted budget! (not sure if Walmart has scales though but many grocery stores do).
great tip 👍
That was great Michelle some fantastic ideas ...xxx
thanks so much 😁
❤great video ❤️ I laughed about being a baker. All I could think of was how I was not the best with play dough. I admire your determination and they bagels came out great. I stated a list of what I bought and am trying to see how far things go. I thought I could make it for the month on what I get from SNAP being a financially challenged senior. I splurged so I doubt I will make it. I like the rice portage. Tell me more. I have white rice but will be getting brown next time. I love carrot 🥕 I think I would have gotten broccoli seeing I had carrots (cauliflower is blah 😆) I bought chick peas I made a salad and a salad dressing. Next time I will oven toast them. We had ⛄️ SOUP season is full swing. 🍜 I made 3 in 4 days. Have a good week my friend 🧡
Hi Victoria 😁 Are you getting the senior monthly food box also? You can get that on top of SNAP and it helps a lot. Let me know if you need contact info on that. I'm loving soup right now too. You too....have an awesome rest of your week 😁
@@ArdentMichelle thank you . i haven’t signed up for that. I have a card with my new health insurance that is confusing. It doesn’t take much. Then I have a new Snap bonus. If you buy $50 a month in produce you get 25 back on. This means a drive to specific participating stores. The nearest is a drive I am not fond of but I will give it a try. I just came in from trying to get all the snow off the car. It’s actually nice out. It’s invigorating. Thankfully the man came to shovel the walk and snow blow the driveway. Chicken soup today.
Crispy chick peas are the bomb!
Michelle - I always enjoy watching and I look for your videos. This set was so good! Bagels, carrot fritters - possibility with raisins - maybe even finely ground or chopped nuts! I will look forward to trying some of these. GOD BLESS! Enjoy your week. Stay safe!
Thank you so much 😁
Thank you for these extreme budget ideas! While I'm, fortunately, not currently in this situation, I can always use more kitchen creativity without breaking the bank. (Wish you and RUclips had been around in my 20's and early 30's 😉) Btw, you were rolling your bagels in a lot of excess flour, which probably contributed to the first batch being dry.
welcome 😁 yeah I think you're right about the flour 👍
Fabulous! Absolutely, fabulous!
Thank you 💜
Love you channel! 4:27 showed Great Value Broccoli and Cauliflower! Thanks for all you do!
can't believe I missed that. you're welcome 😁
This was a great use of $5! 🧡🙏🏻✨
Thank you 😁
The bagel recipe is cool. I definitely want to try that
Hope you like it! 😁
Hello Michelle, I often hear you say that you are responding to various challenges. I have a challenge for you that I am trying myself because I am having surgery this summer and will be unable to work for 4 months whilst I recover so my food budget has to be dropped to 10 dollars per week. I am not counting my teas, lemonade, nor waters in this budget as I will have those prestocked in my pantry and freezer. I have tons of herbs and spices and oils etc. I only have Dollar Tree and Walmart as national chains near me. I need not only three smallish meals per day but two snacks, one a.m. one p.m. I need high protien, mid carb. I am not a fan of Indian spices--no offence to anyone, but they are not my personal preference, and I do not have the mobility nor manual dexterity to make my own noodles, breads, tortillas, etc. So this is my challenge to you if you choose to accept it: shopping at only Walmart or Dollar Tree for the week, $10, 21 meals, 14 snacks, high protien, mid carb, variety of meals if possible, no Indian inspired dishes, and no hand made carbs. Do you accept my challenge?
Rustyrosey… I found your challenge very interesting. I think I’ll try it for myself. Thanks for the idea
what are you thinking of when you say Indian spices? Also what is a mid carb count to you?
also do you like tofu?
Shrinkflation is catching us all off guard in so many ways
true 👍
I'm going to try the carrot soup and fritters. They look yummy!
Yay! 🥳 glad you like them!
I love the ease with which I can grade various foods in my grater. It was worth the money!
I agree. 👍
Love this!!! Another great job!!!
Thank you 😁
I love your content!! Thank you for the inspiration.
Thanks for watching!
Just going to nonchalantly flex with that banana I see...
😂 this made me laugh!!!
😂
These look great! I would love some gluten free options on the fritters and bagels
Love this challenge, ( I watch all your meal challenges) this one was a winner, going to try carrot fritters. Your bagels looked way better than mine , when I tried them. Thanks again
welcome 😁
That was out of this world🥰
💜 thank you.
Ha, just that bag if carrots alone is 5.00 here. Youve got it so good there lol
our food prices are great...but our housing costs are ridiculous!!!
I enjoy watching your videos and I’m amazed at the prices you have. Just to compare, I went on Walmart Canada website and put everything that you bought in my cart. I had to do some fancy figuring because it seems we can’t buy just 6 eggs or anything less than a 2lb bag of carrots in my area of western Canada. I managed to get a fairly close comparison though. It came to $10.91 Cdn which converts to $8.16 US. Quite the difference!
thanks for sharing this
A 6 count of eggs in Nacogdoches, Texas, is $1.62 (grrrr). I suppose it will remain high and continue to rise until after Easter (it seems there's always a shortage for one reason or another leading up to Easter). A 12 count of GV brown eggs are $2.08 and the 12 count GV large white are $2.80 🤯 Our store is out of lettuce, tortillas, chicken, and most hamburger meat.
wow...that's surprising. I still can't believe all the empty shelves from Covid. Makes you realize how important food storage is.
@ArdentMichelle yes, yes, yes! Please, if you and your audience could spare $5 a week for food storage. Put it in a closet, under their bed... a jar of gv peanut butter (no cook), a can of anything (ravioli, chili, fruit, beans, soup) no cook, a pound of rice, a pound of lentils, and some bouillon (cook). I know sometimes $5 isn't possible, but there are times when you have "an extra" $5. Food security this winter will be so very important, especially for these winter storms and then again with the spring storms. From the Gulf Coast hurricane season to the Houston to Canadian border Arctic blasts with power outages for days at a time, emergency food and clean water are vital for life. People sometimes get distracted by life and don't have an emergency stash. Our government recommends that everyone has a 3 day to 2 week emergency supply of food, water, and medicine (near impossible). I'm grateful for you and your ability to reach, inform, help, and impact so many lives. Thank you.
Oh believe me, I was having the same trouble making bagels even with the right ingredients. It turns out whatever recipe I started with had 1 cup more flour than other recipes I compared it with, so adding extra water helps out a lot. All in all, the bagels came out good. It's comparable to grocery bagels, but it's not "omg, bakery quality bagel" type of grand.
I think that with bread flour these would be just as good as the bagel shop.
IM GONNA TRY AND POKE HOLE /SO GLAD U LIKED BAGELS. THEY ENDED UP COOOKING UP PRETTY
I made the carrot fritters. It was fun to try something new I did add some raisins as you suggested. It did add a nice layer of sweetness and chewiness. I ate them as a treat instead of as a side dish. They really hit the spot.
Because I like to experiment I fried half of them and air fried the other half, 350 degrees, 6 minutes on each side. It added a bit more crunchiness without the added oil. Though I enjoyed both versions. 🥕🥕
Btw mine weren't as pretty as yours.
I'm glad you tried them. I like that the air fryer resulted in them being crunchier AND with less oil.
