Beautiful and delicious meals. I would be pleased to serve each of those dishes. As always your video was a spot on tutorial. I wanted to share this frugal idea.....that I am sure is not my original...... After peeling a bag of apples I dried the skins in a dehydrator. They were especially dry and crisp. I put them in the blender with allspice and cinnamon and created a flavorful powder to sprinkle on toast or oatmeal. It also makes for a delicious tea add in.
I love this video! Australian equivalent prices in November 2023 are $11.29. I substituted wheat flour for cornbread since its not a popular food here and its very expensive. By australian standards this makes 9 meals for $1.25 each, which is still pretty great.
Thanks for sharing equivalent prices with me. 😁 I probably purchased sale items for this video, so it would probably be hard to replicate exactly even in other parts of the U.S. but that being said, a person could always sub out whatever veggies are on sale in their area at the time. Love hearing costs around the world.
I added may be a tablespoon of melted butter and dash of vanilla extracts and a tiny bit of sugar to my jiffy mix and it always turned out extra yummy.
Wow, you did really great this time. Whenever I think I don’t have anything in the house, I just watch one of your videos and realize there is so much I could make! ❤️
As a Canadian I am quite envious that you can get that many varieties of ingredients for 5.00. I figured out I might only be able to get 2-3 things from your ingredients for that price. What you got if I shopped creatively would cost me about double. Even our dollar stores e.g. DollarTree's lowest price is 1.50 per item now plus tax. Great recipes!
I like that you use fresh veg. I'm really struggling right now and I crave fresh veg most of all. Canned things are nice to have but they are cooked very done and I'm not a lover of salty things. I'm not complaining, l'm very grateful to have food at all. Just missing things. Thank you for your videos, I like going shopping with you.😊 My mom cooked southern-style. She put very finely minced onions in her hush puppies.
oh I bet those onions were very good in the hush puppies. 👍 yum. I'm glad you're enjoying my videos. I too love fresh vegetables. I have to try to make myself use more canned and frozen because I know not everyone has the access to cheap fresh foods like I do. Thank YOU for watching my videos! 🥰
With the hush puppies, the moistness and texture could also be because they had a chance to sit for a few days in the fridge and hydrate the flour and corn meal more thoroughly.
It's amazing how a few spices can create a brand new dish with the same ingredients. I think people under estimate the value of keeping a nice variety of spices in their cabinet. That way, if you're tired of eating the same thing, throw some different spices in and bam! You've got something completely different tasting and delicious. You really did an outstanding job with such few ingredients!

So cute how you say lentil like lenel, sounds so much more adorable ❤ not making fun, I really think it’s super cute. Great video, as always, thank you!
Impressive as always! At first, I thought it was $5/ day, which is always great, but then you said 3 days! Wow. If additional beans were on sale, you could add beans to the pasta salad as well as the minestrone. Even garbanzos would work. You gave me some new ideas on how to use up some garden veggies and muffin mix. Thanks!
Here is something I do. Maybe it will give someone the idea that works for me. Each time I open a jar or a can of something like a pasta sauce, tomato paste, cream, pimentos, or chopped onion, peppers, etc. I put some into a 1 tablespoon silicone mold, then freeze. When frozen, I pop it out, then store in the freezer. Then when I need a dab of something for my recipe and money is tight, I have small amounts of seasonings to add to my food. Also, nothing goes to waste, even that last little bit in a jar. Works for orange juice, just everything. I save my plastic peanut butter jars for freezer storage and label the lid with contents and date. I picked up my mold at a flea market for .50 cents. An ice cube tray would work too.
Another knockout!!! Winter has arrived where I live and a lentil curry will be so yummy. Thanks for having not one but 2 for me to add to my saved recipes. I saw your cookbook binder and fell in love. I'm in Canada but I managed to find the same thing in the Amazon store here. I don't know why but many times the stores are radically different You are so creative, thank you for the hard work you put into your channel and menu plans. You are helping countless people and families. ❤❤
@@ArdentMichelle - I have enough land now to grow a years worth of carrots, beans, greens, tomatoes and quite a bit more! But, I started in a couple of 5 gallon buckets. @@christines2787 That's awesome. 👍The last time I tried to grow cilantro without grow lights, I had to throw them out. It made me so sad. 😞 Just not enough light near my one window. I live in a cave.

I don’t remember how I found your channel, but I’m glad I did. Besides being very calming, they’re very helpful. I’m trying to keep us on a tight food budget to get some things paid off and you’ve given me not just ideas of meals to make, but permission to shop and cook in a way that has saved us money and kept us full with tasty meals. You and another budget friendly channel have helped me gain a new perspective and I really appreciate that. Plus I love seeing snippets of my home, California 💜

Hey just wanted to let you know that if you read the ingredients, Jiffy mix cornbread has lard in it. So it does contain fat. There is a vegetarian version as well that contains vegetable oil.
Just found that out, so weird- dehydrated lard. Some of my viewers mention that they add oil and it does improve the texture- I still need to try it. I'll probably start buying the vegetarian box because I prefer to use oil.
Well done as always. I would have made dhaal too. Love the new soup bowls, just in time for soup season too! I love how cheap jalapenos are there and you using them as an ingredient often. Thanks Michelle
Hi Michelle, great video, I use that Jiffy cornbread too, of course I like cornbread from scratch but those little boxes can really come in handy. I don't know why but I have never thought to make them in a mini muffin pan. On Halloween we are having a potluck at our community clubhouse and along with what I am bringing I am going to make mini muffins, thanks to you. Also I haven't made minestroni soup in a while and it sounds good, thats why I love this time of year, so many soup recipes. That Thai Curry recipe looked pretty tasty 😉😉. Have a great week and see you next Sunday.. Charlotte
Hi Charlotte 😁 You might want to adjust the cooking time down if you make the mini muffins. They'll be moister that way. Thanks again for the spices 💜 See you Sunday!
Hi Michelle, for some reason I'm not getting all the notifications for your videos. I was pretty sure that you put one out on Sunday or Monday so I looked you up and sure enough you did have one up, Yay! Your food looks delicious and I love the way you use so many different spices. I'm definitely going to make some of those veggie dishes but since I'm cutting down on carbs I will use less pasta (I love pasta!) Zuchinni is my favorite veggie, I chop them up with S&P and olive oil and roast them in the oven. Those hush puppies look quick and easy, that will be on our menu too! Thanks for another great video!! 🤗😊💖

Thank you 😁 Nope not yet, I've been mostly applying for jobs that are such that I can continue with my channel. I have my eyes on a federal job that I want, but it takes months to even get to the interview stage 😞
SouPlantation!!! I remember it so fondly😊 It was the 1st place I ever had (or even heard of) Loaded Baked Potato Soup. Soooo delicious with their fantastic salad bar.
Looks great! I alwsys add 2+ Tablespoons of melted butter to the Jiffy mix. And sometimes jalapeño and cheese (dinner) or sausage and cheese (breakfast). I love those mixes, so quick and easy. Plus my husband prefers the mix to scratch.
Wow. Your amazing to get such delicious and nutritious dishes on such a small amount of money. Speaking of dishes- nice bowls. Perfect size. I over cooked my omelette a tad. So what you saw was the inside, it was folded open. That was Portuguese sausage. Red lentils are a favorite. They cook quickly. Blooming the spices is so nice. Adding tomato paste if I have it is a bonus. I don’t add salt till the end. Hush puppies are a childhood favorite with fried fish on Friday. Stewed tomatoes on pasta was a end of week meal. Thanks for the salad dressing recipe too.💚 I will post on FB my next red lentil soup
Love your ideas! They look so tasty it is hard to believe they are so budget friendly. I have had a real thing for Indian food lately and have been looking for some other ways to use lentils. Have you ever done a type of pan fried lentil "patty?" I'm thinking about it.
I made lentil patties in one of my videos but I don't remember which one....or was it split yellow peas? 🤔 hmmm...don't remember. I love Indian food too.
I love that a lot of your videos are vegan and vegetarian, even if it is unintentional. Just a note that Jiffy cornbread has lard in it for viewers like me that prefer not to have animal products.
I’d love to see more Indian food. I love spicy food, but many times, my mouth can’t handle it so I need to make it myself. I tried looking up how to make some things and even though I am an experienced cook, I’m so intimidated. Also, I mention you all the time so I hope you have new people finding you.
@@ArdentMichelle I know! (Same thing we have to watch out for with canned refried beans.) Recently my Walmart was selling the regular Jiffy Mix for .15 which was crazy, like you I don’t use it very often because I always have cornmeal, but I picked up several boxes and I was looking at the ingredients and was really surprised to see lard listed, I guess I expected vegetable shortening.
I l ike to buy a bag of frozed diced onion to use for eggs and other cooked meals - so convenient. same with bell pepper and even found squash and zucchini though I prefer those fresh. I also like eggs with pinto beans sometimes and salsa
tonight it made banana dinner rolls. we aren't huge banana bread fans so I found a recipe on YT for the rolls and have made them twice with a brown sugar cinnamon butter.
Hello 😁 No I haven't. Videos like that don't do well on my channel. Otherwise I would love to do that. That's my favorite thing to do...take a deep dive on one ingredient.
@@SheilaEnglish2 yes, I think the majority of viewers want to see what I come up with on a fixed very extreme budget. I also think that a lentil themed video would be a hard sell to some of my viewers 😂
usually when I get in cooking mode it's to be healthy and I cringe at the videos being so generous with the oil but was watching one (not sure if I had found yours at the time but not sure whose...)anyways, on that video the woman pointed out that on limited funds (this was college students) that oil was a way to get in needed calories and that was a wow moment for me as I hadn't thought about the calories as I've always had MORE than enough calories...
I didn't realize it has lard. I much prefer oil in my cornbread. Some viewers have said they add oil and it does help the consistency so I guess I'll have to try it. I'll probably start buying the vegetarian one.
I feel they taste a bit sweeter. The main difference to me is they cook so quickly and start falling apart quickly. Which is good for certain dishes. For others, it's less desirable for me at least
Thank you so much for this video🪄🪄 I have similar ingredients on hand and am going to recreate this 3 day plan with yellow split peas, poblanos as subs. You are a marvel.

Michelle, I used to use the flour in the corn bread mix all the time. I had one box, and four little ones to feed.
understood 👍 and I bet it was delicious! 😁
This is a really great video, I love a good soup and lentils are one of my favorites, thank you😊
Thanks for watching! 😁 I'm glad you like this one.
I love your channel so much! Everything is simple and nutritious. I also like the smaller portion sizes.
Thanks so much!
I've had a lot of fun with those Jiffy mixes over the years.
Clever use of the ingredients. Lentil soup 🍜 is always filling on a cold day.
Just shows what you can cook up with $5.
Very good video🎉
Glad you like my video! 😁
It all looks great!!
Thank you 😁
Hello 😁 Thanks for clarifying about the sausage and sharing your food pics. Love seeing those! 🥰 Glad you like this one!
@@ArdentMichelle YW. Looking forward to the next video
Well done!!!
Thanks Wendie 😁 Hope you are having a great week.
Great video! I need to do red lentil curry soon.
Thank you 😁
So savvy! And those bowls are very attractive. Debi in Vicksburg, MS. 🥰🥰
Thank you 😁
You can make a souffle omelette which could make you feel like you have eaten more than you have ❤
Love your ideas!
I eat a gluten free English muffin at breakfast frequently which is mostly cornmeal based. I really enjoy it..
That sounds delicious!
I love that a lot of your videos are vegan and vegetarian, even if it is unintentional. Just a note that Jiffy cornbread has lard in it for viewers like me that prefer not to have animal products.
One of my viewers told me. That was surprising to me. I guess I never read the ingredients.
@@ArdentMichelle I appreciate what you do! I know it must be a lot of work to do thos and work full time! Your videos are full of ideas.
Whole food Plant based is the cheapest and healthiest way to eat! 😁
Thank you for doing this I had no idea you had that recipe for the dressing I am definitely going to try it. You gave me some really good ideas.
Glad you like this video! Yes, try that dressing. I love it so much! 😋👩🍳 Hope you enjoy!
I'm going to try the lentil currg!
Yay! 🥳 Hope you enjoy!
Thank you for the great recipes! I'm especially liking the lentil. I've always wanted to try them but I didn't know how to go about it.
Welcome 😁 Glad you like this.
Thank you Michelle they were some great meals on such a low budget .xx
Welcome 😁 so glad you like this video!
I’d love to see more Indian food. I love spicy food, but many times, my mouth can’t handle it so I need to make it myself. I tried looking up how to make some things and even though I am an experienced cook, I’m so intimidated. Also, I mention you all the time so I hope you have new people finding you.
awe..thanks so much for mentioning me 🥰
Your food always looks delicious. I want to make the lentil curry!
I'm glad you think so. 😁 Thanks for letting me know 🥰
Bravo!!!
Thank you 😁
Excellent meals! We don’t eat meat so I get the Vegetarian Jiffy Mix when I buy it because the original has lard in there.
I didn't realize it had lard in it. I'll probably start buying the vegetarian too, because I definitely prefer oil in mine.
You are a credit to your community
awe..thank you 🥰 This comment means a lot to me. So grateful for viewers like you!
So inspiring!
Thank you 😁
I love that recipe book can I ask where you got it
I linked it in my Amazon store. I love it too.
www.amazon.com/shop/ardentmichelle
Nice! The Jiffy regular mix contains lard, so I always get the vegetarian version. It is only a few cents more.
Thank you 😁
I l ike to buy a bag of frozed diced onion to use for eggs and other cooked meals - so convenient. same with bell pepper and even found squash and zucchini though I prefer those fresh. I also like eggs with pinto beans sometimes and salsa
Buying the chopped onions is a great idea since they are kind of a pain to chop up. I like beans with eggs also.
Thank you! I love your channel so much .I finally made an omelette..in a better way!
Yay! 🥳 Glad you're enjoying my videos and your omelette turned out great!
tonight it made banana dinner rolls. we aren't huge banana bread fans so I found a recipe on YT for the rolls and have made them twice with a brown sugar cinnamon butter.
Thanks for the heads up on this. I see several different kinds of recipes online. Are you using yeast?
I would like to use red lentils more often and I know you’ve featured them often. Have you done a video just on different lentil dishes?
Hello 😁 No I haven't. Videos like that don't do well on my channel. Otherwise I would love to do that. That's my favorite thing to do...take a deep dive on one ingredient.
@@ArdentMichelle Interesting. I wonder why videos like that don’t do well . Do you think it’s because viewers want to see a $ amount in the title?
@@SheilaEnglish2 yes, I think the majority of viewers want to see what I come up with on a fixed very extreme budget. I also think that a lentil themed video would be a hard sell to some of my viewers 😂
❤
usually when I get in cooking mode it's to be healthy and I cringe at the videos being so generous with the oil but was watching one (not sure if I had found yours at the time but not sure whose...)anyways, on that video the woman pointed out that on limited funds (this was college students) that oil was a way to get in needed calories and that was a wow moment for me as I hadn't thought about the calories as I've always had MORE than enough calories...
yes that's very true 👍
Amazing for $5 3 days of meals. Where did you get the small packet of siracha? Thank you
My son brought them home from work.
The reason they don’t tell you to add oil to the jiffy mix is because it already has lard in it
I didn't realize it has lard. I much prefer oil in my cornbread. Some viewers have said they add oil and it does help the consistency so I guess I'll have to try it. I'll probably start buying the vegetarian one.
I always wanted to try Soup Plantation but never got to ☹️😢
I was hoping they would come back. 🤞
Silly question…but do the red lentils taste a lot different from just regular lentils?
I feel they taste a bit sweeter. The main difference to me is they cook so quickly and start falling apart quickly. Which is good for certain dishes. For others, it's less desirable for me at least
Not really, they still have a slightly peppery flavor but a little less so.
Where the he'll is this Walmart at???
Irvine, CA
I wish Jiffy was vegetarian.
They do make a vegetarian version now that I can usually find at my Walmart.
I wish I lived near Wholesome Choice or a Winco
I just looked and my Walmart has the vegetarian Jiffy mix for .62
Or you could make up your own little mixes in advance and put them in plastic bags.
Sometimes Aldi has a cornbread muffin mix w/o lard…
Thanks everyone. I will look again.
you cooked the lentils wrong
how so?
Thank you so much for this video🪄🪄 I have similar ingredients on hand and am going to recreate this 3 day plan with yellow split peas, poblanos as subs. You are a marvel.
