This panel is VERY biased. All are in the music industry so they were biased for the Khaled 5s, of course they're gonna ride his sneaker. Also, their wealth comes into question. The Brooklyn and LV forces are unattainable. Both in quantities and price. They were dumb limited and even if you got a chance to buy it, you have to shell out a few thousand
agreed.. i think that the panel.. although they are knowledgeable about sneakers.. i think their connections and wealth kinda puts their decisions questionable at best...

I agree I turned it off about 10 minutes in just because the bias was too clear I don’t wanna hear about SNEAKER of the year from a panel that all has nike/Jordan’s on
@rawpuppyman no doubt it does. These people get limited sneakers for free or retail. Kudos to them but because of that, they're conflicted when it comes to topics like these
@christiancollier9390 True but they did mention New Balance and Adidas but quickly trashed them lol DJ Clark Kent was really the only one to give NB their props
No SBs, no Patta Air Max 1s, no Salomons, and no NB 990s, or even Union 2s in the conversation is crazy. Teddy Santis, Salomon, and Pattas had a huge year. Having someone like Jones who won’t even consider a New Balance being on the list is dumb. It’s a list of top 10 sneakers of the year, not just of their personal pickups. Kent is at least not oblivious of the crazy year New Balance has had.
Jim Jones on this panel is a travesty. He doesn't know about a lot of the releases, he's just up there being arrogant.

Not hypocritical at all 👀 that they kicked off Adidas x Gucci from the list for being a luxury house that wrapped a sneaker in their logo… yet LV x Nike…the exact same concept…gets #1? Good hosting by Joe, but it’s a fail that he doesn’t confront them with that point. Enjoyed the segment, but the standards have to be the same across all brands. This isn’t “story” of the year, or “designer” of the year. It’s a final product / sneaker of the year. All that extra noise shouldn’t be applied to the decision process ✌🏼

I think they disregarded the adidas x Gucci bc they chose the gazelle not bc of the vision or execution. Had they chosen a superstar or maybe a forum it would have been better received.
Yes there's a big difference between cynical collabs and genuine collabs.
The tells are in the degree of design input and commitment to marketing.
Simply tweaking the OG design and slapping on a different colour scheme or using design logo cloth won't cut it.
Absence of the marketing shows the designer doesn't care or value the collab.
The Dior Nike collab worked well and was a sea change for sneaker industry.
Lux brands have tried to acquire street cred of sneakers by doing their own sneakers or doing collabs or both.
We see that in cars and cycling too.
The danger for sneaker brands is that they go one step too far and both sides lose credibility from their client bases.
Are the Gucci and LV collabs too expensive and exclusive? Alienating sneakerheads means subsequent releases are no longer desired as much and demand falls. High end collabs need to be both hero/halo/aspirational but within reach, and still desirable. Collabs worn only by retirees aren't cool.
talk about story. i was devastated when kobe and gigi died, but these kobes? one of the worst colorways of them. story (sad), not a sneaker.

I feel like out of all the years, we've seen a huge resurgence in popularity for the "smaller brands."
New Balance, Salomon, Asics to a certain extent. Not all my taste but definitely had more of a global impact than the Khaleds...
Other brands have done a great job this year! I don’t know how you can legit have 8 spots going to Nike and Jordan brand. I can see 4 or 5

Yes, I think the Salomon ACS Pro x L’Art De L’Automobile deserved a spot here.
I don’t think any Asics would make it in my top 10 for the year though however.

Definitely need more diversity on the panel next time around Nike did their thing this year as usual but it's ok to give other brands their flowers as well
We need diversity in the panel members too. Where's the hispanic, asian & white voices? Sneaker culture is universal yet Complex would have you think it's only an East Coast black thing...

I wouldnt put other kicks on the top 10 list if they dont deserve to be there jsut to be diverse. If they really a top 10 then I'll put em on top 10 but Nike smacked everybody this year. Adidas will never be on a top 10 list again after dropping Ye. Wo tf buying Yeezyless Yeezys? That's why their stock dropping. And who else had a top 10 brand. Nobody made a shoe on the level of Louis V AF1, Jordan 5 Khaled, etc.

We definitely need a different panel next year. We would like to see more diversity across different industries and cultures. Let's see a big youtuber, sneaker store owner, an average collector, a designer ect. These old rappers ain't it.

@Justin Cauley oh I know that man. I grew up listening to Jada and Dip Set. I'm 33 years old. But I still think the panel would be interesting with just one of these New Yorkers. I'd prefer DJ Clark over the 3 of them. And then include different folks from different areas of Sneakers.

I think what he’s saying is that they’re not the people we should be expecting to have their fingers on the pulse of what’s hot. Not to disrespect any of them, but Jim clearly has a bias of what he likes and isn’t willing to see beyond that. I think some diversity in age and background is needed, especially since what’s hot in NY isn’t always what is hot everywhere else.
@@TheKoalabear98 They do that every few years, I know Lil Yachty was on It last year. TBH I prefer these guys a little bit more because they all have their true sneaker opinions and aren't willing to compromise with social norm. Those Gazelle's shouldn't have been on the top 10 this year even if we had a weak sneaker year. I would prefer some of the modern day RUclipsrs opinions like Bulltrc,TonyD2Wild, and Seth Fowler....but I understand their need to have "Celebrities" on the panel.

I am 60 years-old, from Queens NY, and identify as Hip Hop. I represent the ethos of making a shoe hot instead of buying a hot shoe! Interesting conversation but I could care less what Complex, Kiss, Clark, or anyone thinks about what I rock.

I agree. They weren't needed and didn't have well rounded takes on sneakers. Everyone wore Nike. They need to stop. I purposely avoid nike.

Diadora mythos propulsion is definitely on my 10 ten list. And from how it sold... apparently some other enthusiasts have been looking too. KSwiss Rowing Blazers is probably number 1 for me.
We need more people that are in the trenches of the sneaker culture, like mayor or foamer, trinidad james, etc.

I literally have a rule about my J’s. I lace them how Mike wore them… he wore BLACK laces in his Chicago’s and there are plenty of pictures of this… I think it was a NBA rule.
