The wildlife sightings are getting more epic with each day along our Alaska Highway road trip! This week we make it to the Yukon, but not before stopping for a much anticipated soak in a natural hot spring!
The Alaska Highway is a bucket list road trip spanning 1,390 miles from Dawson Creek, British Columbia to Delta Junction, Alaska and passing through the Yukon along the way. We spent 9 days driving this road which is full of epic wildlife, stunning views, hikes, fun stops, and so much more along the way!
This is Part 2 of 3 in our AlCan Highway series, and we'll show you everything you need to plan your own road trip on this iconic highway. From fuel costs, places to stay - including free boondocking spots and paid sites - to things to do, see, and eat.
Here’s a link to the current Milepost we mention in this video. If you’re planning a 2025 trip for yourself, you’ll want to pre-order the 2025 edition.

“In Stephen & Andie fashion, we’re getting off to a late start.” 🤣 We empathize!
Yeah, walking up on a herd of bison isn’t like meeting new friends at the pub. But the water - yes!
“I feel dumb. Do you feel dumb?” Again, we get it. And relying on tech TOO much? Not good.
View. After view. After view. That would be enough. Let alone the river & hot spring stop offs!
Ooooh, silver? Did they recover from the hard-boiled eggs?
The bears all over! They forgot to report to Chicago for training camp. (Sorry, but we have to stay on brand. 🤪)
    Yukon!
    “Little guyyyyyysssss!!!!” Adorbs.
    And a grizz, fo shizz!
    That aurora storm footage…whooo. Wow.
    (The kid interrupts.)
You used the kid’s favorite Epidemic song about the George Johnson museum. A fantastic 70s funk artist… #ohwait
“If it walks like a desert and talks like a desert…”
The views again! Interrupted by wipers…
I think you need a sideline reporter or postgame show host to do your stats review & John Madden to analyze the map with the on-screen telestrator.
    Seriously, just…awesome.
    (Oh, and AnonyMommy loves bunnies!)

This was a lot of fun! That hot springs looked amazing. Patti and I were giggling as you approached the rocks, "Ouch, nope, that's too hot" 🔥😂 And for some reason, I harken back to the song, "Bears" by the '80's hair band, Zebra! Stephen, you remember "Zebra?" LOVED that group. 🦓

I am guessing your probably back south in the lower 48 unless your staying in Alaska all summer. its 18 years ago when I drove up to Alaska and due to time and of course $$ constraints my trip was pretty much frill free and on the move from very early in the morning to often midnight. I am actually from the Grande Prairie area ( and so yes the fire in Jasper is devastating to me, that's a whole other topic ). I had a mile post book but did not look at it that much as I had certain ideas of where I wanted to go and knew nothing of so many other places I could have gone "if" I would have had the time and funds. Almost all of what I spent was on gas. Speaking of covering distance, the first day and I am a couple of hours east of Mile Zero in Alberta, I went from home almost up to Teslin and that included hiking to Liard hot springs to check it out briefly. Day 2 into Whitehorse and stayed for the July 1st parade and then all the way up to Dawson City. Day 3 toured around Dawson on guided walking tour and a museum and the dredge tour just out of town and left that evening on the ferry across the Yukon to the Top of the World Highway and drove to near the US border. Day 4 waiting until 9 am for the border to open and then drove all the way up to the arctic circle north of Fairbanks on the Dalton "Highway" which of course is mostly gravel and encountered a rutted mud stretch and stayed company with the mosquitoes that night at the arctic circle. Day 5 back south from the arctic circle over to Denali. Day 6 toured Denali on a shuttle and then drove almost to Anchorage. Day 6 down to Exit Glacier and hiked to the glacier, Seward and across over to Kenai town area. Day 7 over to Homer and then back north to Anchorage and then almost to Glenallen. Day 8 to south of Carcross YK. Day 9 to Skagway to look around the town and museum ( and see the people starting to stream off the cruise ships ) and drove a few roads out of town to old cemeteries etc and then back to Watson lake area. I did not include all the interactions I had with people or helping stranded motorists along the way ( lots of stories ). Of course still far from home yet because of where else I went but that gives you a pace of the trip to that point, from there Jade City, Telegraph creek road and the remote town by the same name, Hyder AK and the glacier on the Canadian side into the back country, Prince George, down to Kamloops and over to Emerald Lake, Banff town, lake louise, hiked onto the Columbia icefield, jasper town, Edith Cavell glacier hike, Maligne Lake, hiked the Maligne canyon trail etc and north back to Grande Prairie area. I never had a cell phone and didn't see anyone else that had one either, would never have worked anyway back then anyway up in the Yukon or Alaska or remote parts of BC. Thought you might get a kick out of reading this and have your head spinning 😆

@@StephenandAndie That was the downside of a rushed trip covering so much ground, too much roading ( and lack of sleep ) and not the time to smell all the roses ... or is that moose and bear scat 😅
