    And it’s not just K-12 teachers, either. I left my position as Professor of English last year and it was the best decision I’ve ever made. I had taught undergrads for 15 years, but I couldn’t handle the ever-increasing workload and dealing with students who couldn’t care less anymore. My only regret is not leaving earlier. Now I’m an editorial writer making more money with no grading or helicopter parenting to stress about.

    Amen! I am a public school teacher who works with students who are neurodiverse.
    Not only are we a “one size fits all” system, we are a “crush the heart, mind and soul” of the kids who don’t test well, or learn in traditional ways.
    97% of the kids I teach feel like they are “stupid” which they are not. They are brilliant in so many ways, but we don’t teach them to believe this, or how to value the way their brain works!
    I would quit, but I have 5 years left and I love my students.

    The curriculum is terrible. And zero consequences for bad behavior. Expected to do so much work we don’t get paid for. It’s a nightmare. I’m 6 years in and looking to quit the profession.

    As a teacher for low to mid-income families, I would say that entrance into high-ranking colleges is not the issue. However, I do think that parents get a kick out of cussing teachers out, especially women teachers. They get some kind of high out of abusing professionals who they think are beneath them, even though most of us walk around with master's degrees or higher. Parents truly believe that they know better than the trained professionals who are well-versed in the science of learning.

    • @blackened872
      @blackened872 9 месяцев назад

      Parents feel like they know better because they do. They know what’s better for their kids than you do. Just because you have a masters degree doesn’t excuse you from being looked down upon. The fact that you had to mention that “most of you” have masters degrees is sad. No one cares and I think that bothers you more. You spent all this time getting a degree you care about but the world doesn’t have to automatically respect you because you have a degree. Maybe just maybe it’s the fact that most of you teachers don’t even have kids but think you know how to raise kids better because you have a degree.
      Some parents definitely suck and take it out on people and that’s awful. But you definitely seem to have a holier than thou attitude.

      I have so much respect for teachers who do their best for their students. Few know the trial that is managing 30+ people's kids and ensuring they learn something while having some level of fun. I hope homeschooling in the nation improves and becomes more accessible, because the changes in the classroom rob a lot of children of the ability to receive the attention they need and explore their full potential.

    Hey Ken and his Team! I am a Personal Training Teacher at a Vocational School and agree 100 percent with everything said here! I push my students to go right into the world of work and start making money unless their future goals in some related health career requires further college education. I actually have a RUclips channel called Garage Gear that is fairly large now but I’m pushing it to grow more so I can escape teaching in a few short years. Dealing with Administration, their nonsense policies and circumstances surrounding Covid in recent years really opened my eyes to how flawed the system really is. Schools will be losing many good teachers in the years to come. Thanks for all you do!

    My mom was from a very small town in Newfoundland.
    All the teachers where from somewhere else.
    So everyone in town would invite their kids teacher to dinner just to be friendly.
    Well I grew up in New Jersey and once a year my mom would have a dinner party for all of my teachers.
    It was a great way to get to show the teachers they where appreciated.
    PS I would sleep over at a friends house during these dinner parties.

    Idk my niece is in special Ed. Has 2 different teachers and an assistant Monday through Friday. And she still has trouble with learning the basics. She's in the first grade. So after that I work with my 2 year old a lot more. I'm questioning even putting them in Public School.

    My daughter's teacher is expecting kids to understand multiplication without ever having to be taught multiplication in school. I have taught her some at home. My daughter tells me when she feels pressured she gets everything wrong. I tell her to focus on the questions she knows she can get right and not to worry about the time issue. When she gets more proficient at multiplication she will become faster as the teacher wants her to be. Why aren't the kids being taught to focus on the quality of their work instead of focusing on speed? I feel it is so backwards from being in the real world.

      I work in the field of finance and I am expected to produce quality work at a very rapid pace even if it means working nights and weekends. Your daughter will need to adjust to the time demands, the sooner the better. Make it a priority for her to memorize her times tables.

    • @Alexis-wh2de
      @Alexis-wh2de 9 месяцев назад +1

      As a kid I had a V-tech computer--a hand me down. As a result, I learned times tables and algebra all before my grade required me to. Maybe you could gift your child the modern equivalent of that for Christmas, so they can also build confidence not just in that material teachers cover now but in what they will eventually be expected to do.

    I teach Middle School in Detroit, Michigan. It’s quite a handful because I work in a district of low income students. The disrespect is crazy! And Administration are certainly putting a to. Of pressure on us to increase scores etc…
    We are totally in the position of burnt out. I do love my students, but the system is set up for failure.
    And yes the Standardized Testing!🤦🏾
    Tons of pressure on Students and Teachers for these kids to succeed.
    There is also an excuse system in place for misbehaving behavior!
    I’m praying for the best, but when it’s time to go, I’m outta here!

      Should have never taken the ability for teachers and administrators to paddle students out of the schools. It’s bad enough when everyone gets a trophy and never has to know what it feels like to lose until they get into the real world, but now they know teachers have no course of action for misbehaving. Lots of idiots making these decisions.

    My sister had a special needs kid in her class that she has to spend most the time with which neglects the other students. The kid shouldn't be in the class but the school doesn't want them feeling like they're 'different'. Problem is, the kid IS different. They had special Ed classes for a reason bu the school doesn't care and is willing to sacrifice the education of the other kids that actually have a chance in life.

    • @tduck828

      There are ways to help the “special needs” kids AND the other kids.
      Your sister should have the help of a special education teacher in her room.
      If the students who need extra attention are taking all of her attention, it’s not being done correctly.
      I’d be interested to know exactly what the “special needs” are before I jump to the conclusion that this child should be excluded from the class.

    • @csx6910
      @csx6910 9 месяцев назад +3

      @@vickeycodella7828 That's the funny thing, there IS someone there for her but the kid yells, throws things, and has even grabbed her wrist and twisted it. The other person can't stop her from yelling and, as far as it's been made known, can't restrain her. The kid is removed from class, calms down, is sent back and repeats the process.
      Special needs do not belong in classes meant for kids who don't have those issues. It's a disservice to everyone.

    If the school district was a business, they'd be bankrupt inside 6 months. Poorly led and run. More and more and more work load on the kids and teachers and less accountability from the parents to actually raise decent kids. It's a train wreck in the public school system. At least here in Nevada.

    As a parent of a student who spends hours on homework every day, it isn’t always the students. She has a math teacher, who, according to her, everyone agrees that he is not a good teacher (even an A student told me that she goes home and watch his videos for explanations about the concept that he was supposed to explain in class). Also, the system has changed. They are now teaching math in a way that is supposed to explain the concept behind the algorithms, instead of just teaching the algorithms. As a left brained math lover, I would’ve loved it. But it’s the wrong approach for my right brained artist daughter. She is doing the work, putting in the time, and still getting D’s and F’s in math. That is a teacher problem. She should be getting at least C’s for her time commitment.

      That was me in college. The most dispiriting was a time when my professor said my paper looked the the product of a last minute rushed job. I spent hours and weekends at the library to get it right, even had friends read it for feedback.
      I think the better skill you should teach your child is how not to internalize negative feedback, even from authority figures, when you have more insight on what's happening than they do.

    Is teaching really as bad as teachers act OR do the types of people who enter teaching lack resilience and that causes the high rate of turnover?

    • @ProCoach2373
      @ProCoach2373 9 месяцев назад

      Both I'd say. My wife has been teaching for nearly 25 years and the work load has increased every year. It's also a broken culture. Poor leadership and negative nellies make the culture toxic.
