Had to look up Tahini and how to make hummus. Did not realise it was that simple to make, until saw you make it in the van. Meal looked delicious. Will definitely try this meal.
Making hummus is super simple. Fresh garlic is best but not too much, you can adjust the smoothness of the humus by adding a spoon of water at the end. I don't measure anything and just go by feel and taste. Almost impossible to get wrong. Enjoy!

You guys really do know the best spots in Spain out of season for folks that aren't interested in bars and English things ( I honestly have no problem with folks that like that, you do you is my motto). We just love the Spain where the Spanish live and spend a lot of time there. We're lucky because we live in France so it's not too far away. Great vlogs guys. We also spent a couple of years in South Africa and loved it such a beautiful country. I spent every summer holiday when I was a child in Italy and just loved it too .
Thanks Tanya ❤ To be honest, winter kitesurfing isn't as fun 🥶 and this time of the year we miss the sun and sea of Cape Town and the West Coast. Last year December we were mostly in Puglia and it felt a lot colder than now, perhaps we're just lucky this year.

Started following you guys recently and really enjoying your videos and looking forward to Morocco ones. We are from Gibraltar and traveling with our motor home for 2 years now. Planning to go away with our motor home for a whole year in 2025
How are the road quality in Spain so far? I see you go off the main roads often and I will be using them too next year on our tour. How is your suspension holding up so far (that repair in Serbia and Hungary)? And you may think there isn't much to film and share in winter for us viewers, but on contrary. Seeing these places now in winter will be nahdy to compare them to summer time to how crowded they really are in summer. Or not. Also I assume you are using your SIM cards for internet connection. How is the signal strength and speed overall and who is your provider. For our trip to Europe we use British 3 SIM card and it was excellent through most of the European countries - simless signal reception when driving in and out of different countries. But the only countries we have never been to is Spain, Portugal and Nordic countries and far eastern EU. So these videos are super useful for us. Thanks for the upload. BTW, great surfing show. Who knew a good chef can be a good surfer too. Poor Lisa freezing her butt while Andree is having fun. I guess it is a payback time for the summer hot day when Andre has to sweat while waiting for Lisa to get out of the bakery shop or ice cream shop. I hope your fridge is stocked with ice cream for some compensation now.
😂 Ice-cream in winter?! YEs, of course we have some in the freezer! 😀You know us too well. 😎 Lisa had many hours on the beach watching me kite and for the most of it, it's during summer so it's not too bad on the beach. Winter kite surfing isn't too appealing to me to be honest. I really struggle with the cold. On the roads. Generally the roads in Spain are in great condition. Probably some of the best in Europe. Even when you venture off the main roads they still remain decent. In the Delta for example there's loads of really narrow roads but the surface is reasonably good. The only thing to be careful of is to accidently drive into an old centro storico of small towns. We don't follow our GPS blindly and we pay attention to road signs. For Internet we only use data sims and if we're in a country longer than a week we will usually get a local sim for our primary data. Each of us also has an Italian SIM which roams well everywhere but is limited in roaming data. In some countries it's easier just to pay the premium to top up our roaming data rather than get a local sim. For example in Germany prepaid data sims are expensive and usually not worth getting. Same for Sweden and Norway. We just roamed with our Italian sims there. But in Denmark we got a local Lycamobile sim, you buy it over the counter in a supermarket and it's very affordable. Portugal is much easier than Spain and cheaper too for local sims. Spain we either get Vodafone or Movistar and in Portugal you can get MEO unlimited for 1.20 per day prepaid. What we find is that if you roam you almost always get a better quality of service than in your 'home country' and we've never had completely unusable connections when roaming.
If you continue south along the coast you will leave the Mediterranean climate and enter the unique BSh Hot semi-arid climate at Torrevieja and south along the Orihuela Costa down to Murcia. The BSh weather is a microclimate unique to the south east or Spain and some parts of Greece. Today, 20th Dec I was at Cabo Roig beach and many people in swimming and temps got up to 22c. Just beautiful. Temps here will be 18c-21c for next 7 days, during the daytime. Chilly early in mornings tho. In this area the cities of Alicante, Elche, Murcia and Cartegena are all worth a visit (if I had to choose I'd pick Alicante and Cartegena). Lots of interesting Roman ruins at Cartegena. The Tabernas desert close by too...Europes only desert.
That's super interesting, thank you. Almost 2 years ago we spent a few months around Mojácar and we saw a lot of the coast from Cabo de Gata to Cartagena. We really like the semi-arid desert like feel of that region and that coast is spectacular.
Well now I'm hungry! We're hungry for Spain as well. It looks beautiful and your inspiration is such my wife is finally going to retire. Since the Schengen is a problem for us we will probably do everything in 6 month segments. Our health programs require us to be back in Canada every 6 months but we will continuing to plan. Ronan! You're comments are treat. 😁Thing is, if we don't wear sunnies, Lisa will be squinting too much. Thanks for all the positive comments. On the Internet, it's always a priority for us so we do check 4G signal where we are. On the odd occasion we have slower speeds but for the most of it in Europe it's very good. The cost of Starlink is coming down all the time and it's becoming a feasible alternative. That can't be a single option though as we need to be able to flatmount the dish and it must always be usable even on the move. We always require a hotspot in the vehicle for security so we might still need a sim for our router and of course we also need sims for our own phones (but in Europe we stay on our IT sims). Biggest problem with Starlink is the power consumption. There's no off the shelf 12V solution and out of the box it easily requires 100W. Sound like nothing but in a motorhome that's a LOT of power. Especially in winter. It would have been nice for Morocco though as we will have to get all local SIMS there.. 🤫

Re: Breakfast. I love baked beans, especially canned by KOO, but I wouldn't want to eat it if I lived the #vanlife. Baked beans are for adventure motorcycling when you can stand up on the pegs, arch forward and turbo boost yourself an extra 1 or 2 km/h.
Good question! The worst part is that we often feel a lack productivity this time of the year. The days start late and end early. You tend to sit more, move around less and definitely eat more 😀 That said we do keep busy even if our 'nights' will start earlier than in summer. We will write a blog, edit a video, catch up on correspondence and even do some actual (online) work. Usually, we have supper earlier this time of the year (around 7) after which we will work a bit more until 9 pm. We will then usually watch a movie or RUclips for an hour or so. In bed by 11pm and if not sleepy read a book. Sunrise is super late now, but we usually get up around 7:30 anyway.
Thank you! On average less than 5 percent of Europe is vegetarian. Interestingly, Germany has the highest proportion at 10%.. We definitely enjoy meat but we do pay attention to the source.. We'll have to make a spoof video of why we're not really van lifers 🤣
What exactly is the source of income, to live like that? I bet that van eats at least 15L/100km on average! 6 years for 2 individuals "taking it slow" (doing nothing)? You must be millionares.
You assume we do 'nothing'? Being millionaires would be nice. But sadly, we're just normal people who had (has) normal jobs who chooses to spend a lot less than what we make or have. The 'how' takes effort and it requires a lot of dedication, sacrifice, and planning for many years. We did answer some of this on how we afford to travel full-time in a Q&A from early 2023 which you might find helpful. The short answer is, we live off a combination of savings, passive investments (property & stocks) as well as income from remote work projects on occasion. RUclips does not make us money. You might also be interested that our motorhome consumes on avg less than 10L per 100km and we usually travel less than 10 000km's per year.
Hey guys, we just stopped at a pub after a busy day exploring Girona. We have a beer, Cava and your video to watch! 👍 Reminds us a lot of the Camargue 🦩region. We will try your meal but substitute out the eggplant, the only food we don’t like.😝 Have fun chasing the sun & wind!
😊😁 To be honest we don't really do eggplant much either. Although like this it's really nice. The only other way is fried - but only if a real Italian Nonna makes it. 😁 We're also having a bit of Cava tonight, it's the rule in Spain. 😬😝 Pity we missed you this time.. but we'll just have to come find you in France .
I love Lisa's passion for Spain. Me too. I have been living here for 9 years now.❤

😂 Remind me never to ride behind you!
❤
I would like to know how do you while away the long hours of darkness on winter evenings..any tips would be great..
Enough with the Brussels sprouts. They’re giving me the dry boak (as we say in Scotland) 😜
🤣😁 It's surprisingly good, if you add an equal amount of butter .
Definitely with you there - no beans. Must a South African thing 😂
Especially not for breakfast right?! 🤣
I think it's an English thing. I personally love baked beans, but I understand the consequences...
@@luckystriker7489 Definitely an English thing 🤣
Et une recette à base de riz cultivé dans le delta de l'Èbre, ça ne vous a pas tenté?
Definitely! On our previous time in Spain, we had a ritual of enjoying a rice dish every Sunday.
👍
Great video and great home cooked food. Lovely to see some people who eat meat and drink a little bit of booze 🍾
Reminds us a lot of the Camargue 🦩region.
We will try your meal but substitute out the eggplant, the only food we don’t like.😝
Have fun chasing the sun & wind!
