She's a woman, full name Laura Pergolizzi (hence the name LP) and she has actually written songs for Cher, Rihanna, Celine Dion, Christina Aguilera etc. before having her own breakthrough as a singer.
In 2021, LP shifted to using "they/them" pronouns, stating in an interview "I’m kind of transitioning over to the they/them [pronoun] thing - it's more my kind of vibe", but they seem pretty chill about the whole thing whatever you wanna call them from the little I've seen.

Saw LP in concert for the first time last fall. It was an amazing concert. And during the VIP meet and greet she was super genuine including being intuitive on how to interact with a special needs friend. SO genuine and SO talented.
LP has a beautiful unique voice, no matter what!
She is phenomenal, best in all areas. PLEASE watch all of her pieces, each one is unique. 'Other People' is my favorite, gorgeous melody and visual art is sublime. I've been a music lover for 67 years and she my favorite, I'm obsessed.
Her voice is incredible - a very very long time ago...the late 80s/early 90s, she joined a band I was friends with and she blew everyone away. So happy for her success.

LP is a phenomenal artist! You really need to see her live cover of Halo, it’s just 🔥. She has a great catalogue, and her live performances are always 100 times better than any of the studio versions. I love her song ‘Muddy Waters’.
I just saw LP live in San Diego a few weeks ago and it was one of the greatest performances I’ve EVER seen!!! If you can believe it, she was even better than she was in this video- she put in so much power and energy into every single song and kept it up there the ENTIRE two hours! I think that was the last show of her tour (or maybe just the first leg of it), but if you get the chance, I HIGHLY recommend checking her out and getting tickets to one of her shows. If you want to hear some other songs from her that fuckin slap, check out When We’re High, Muddy Waters, Recovery, and Girls Go Wild.

I think this is what happens when you have a truly addictive song meeting the pitch perfect performer/singer to interpret it. I don't think there is any person in the whole world who would fit this song this exceptionally well. Literal perfection. And I was obsessed with the song before I had any visual reference of LP so there was no surprise element in my case but I think you might be right that it's a contributing factor for a lot of people. That view count is insane

she gained her fame when her Single Into the Wild was featured as a background song on national television for a credit card commercial it was so breathtaking and stunning that this somewhat unknown artist was searched for to find who this mystery singer who captivated hearts and ears i have followed her career for years since that commercial she also looks alot like my brother which is hilarious but when i just close my eyes and listen, her voice takes me on an adventure and for a little bit i forget about my worries and am left with a pleasant vibe as it were when the song is finished plus the songs are so likable to sing and whistle too funny enough her whistling got me into whistling and i am now pretty dang good

And yea fyi they use 'they/them' pronouns - they used 'she/her' before that though until 2021, so people in the comments here aren't wrong, just dont have the most up to date info :). Didn't love reading the chat of people's comments on this issue though yikes... but LOVE your reaction to this song though and I really appreciate your commentary!
LP is a fantastic artist. Not just a highly skilled vocalist, but, acknowledged industry wide as a seriously great Song-Writer / Composer as well.
You're right... LP studied Opera. It's not uncommon when people discover LP and appreciate the voice, they become rabid fans. I am no exception. ❣
I saw this in 2018 and fell in love with LP! LP ( female) is criminally underrated. Her/ their Mother was an opera singer and heard her daughter singing in the car ( as a child ) and knew that she was going to need some classical training because even then her vibrato was impressive. Written for Rhianna, Cher, Backstreet Boys, Cristina Aguilera, Joe Walsh, Celine Dion, +. Muddy Waters and Strange are also part of this Live from Harvard and Stone. This is just FYI. Scott Hoying of Pentatonix, the tall blonde guy and Mario Jose I have a video with a very interesting take on this song. It was probably Scott who's I did this was----- They took the lyrics from this song and sing it To a Hans Zimmer track called time from the movie inception. It doesn't get nearly the attention that deserves.

She is a fantastic songwriter that was very successful before she turned to performing. Her parents were opera singers and LP has had classical training. She has an amazing body of work to explore but you MUST watch her live cover of Beyoncé's Halo💯. I don't know how I missed you reacting to this but if anyone you should see live before you die this is that ARTIST. LP is phenomenal on every level. So many get hung up on is she male or female, who the hell cares ? Her live version of Halo is my all time fav of hers the fact that she wrote it makes all the difference. There is not one track she has released that is not superb. Ivy Levan another American singer who is not only breathtakingly beautiful but has the voice to back her up. Fouzia another phenomenal singer and still largely not known. So many artists undiscovered now add Ren and Chinchilla to it.
Her Live cover of Halo will change your life and has made me a lifelong fan, LP is my favorite artist ever! Her own music is amazing too, all of her songs are addictive and important.

The people in the chat fixated on whether the singer is a girl or boy, male or female was weird. Nothing wrong with asking questions, but speculating and saying things like "look at the chest, it's a boy" is a little invasive (and creepy imo). People need to relax and either enjoy the song or move on. On a positive note, I enjoyed the song and your reaction! Muddy Waters was my first introduction to LP. I had not heard this song before.
