- From time to time, I love to sit down and listen to just crazy good songwriting, with impressive vocals and deep lyrical content. And I found all of that with LP and her live version of "Lost On You". How I've never heard this before now astounds me, and her catalogue of artists she's written songs for (including Celine Dion, Cher, Rihanna, Christina Agulera and the Backstreet Boys), I'm even more entranced and intrigued to dive in!
Join professional opera singer Elizabeth Zharoff, as she listens to LP for the first time, performing "Lost On You”.

LP is pure magic. You are correct. Her songwriting is masterful. She started her career going forth into music performances but fell flat, and took a back seat to write for a label and other artists. But then, she gave it another go, and something clicked. I guess enough people finally woke up and believed in her. She deserves every bit of fame and glory. ❤
Some DJ in Greece licensed the song to play on his radio station and it took off like crazy and then it just exploded everywhere.
@@switchboardrevelry4275 which song? Story links? Thanks!!!!
Yes, she sings like a little bird looking on a sunrise.
Have never heard before, and am now exploring. So glad I found this channel, and hence LP. Just gorgeous; music for the soul (as all music is?) but you know what I mean.
@@JimJurena ruclips.net/video/bS1tC6Ko8Xg/видео.html 57:44 She tells the story.
The Muddy Waters performance from this same set is just as amazing and her cover of Beyonce's Halo is a masterclass.
Muddy Waters is insane
"Muddy Waters" definitely needs its own video. "The One That You Love" is also a fantastic and very distinct song.
Yes yes yes... Muddy waters - definitely. Please do try 😊
Muddy Waters was the first song I heard from her…and I was hooked.
Yep, just said the same about the Halo before i saw this. Its so beautifully done. 👏🏼
I have such a crush on LP. Her voice is incredible, her performance is captivating, and she looks like the lovechild of Bob Dylan and Patti Smith. So damn good.
True
...or Kristen Stewart and Jesse Eisenberg!
They identify as gender neutral
I hear yah.. :) I have the same crush !!
I'm an old Metalhead and she's been one of my favorite singers for years. She's truly Unique.
same here
We Metalheads do get around don't we 😁
Same here ^^ I like tolisten to unique voices, no matter if its Metal or Pop
Here too
Talent beyond musical styles.
I cannot WAIT for this. The first time I watched this performance I was in complete shock. The command and control LP has over her voice is absolutely insane.
When I first found TCV this was one of the first videos I looked to see if she had in her backlog and was disappointed, so yeah I'm thrilled! Such an incredible performance
Sounds like Tricia Takanawa from Family Guy, right? Tricia is the Asian reporter.
@@SkullWaneVideos asian!? with a name like Takanawa? you don't say....
Totally with you. I've watched it plenty since my first time but every time i hear or watch this song it hits me with that buzz that only great music can give me. Her whistles and other non lyrical vocalizations are hauntingly beautiful. The fairly simply instrument accompaniment, allowing her voice to take center stage, with those relatable and catchy lyrics; just such a beautifully done song.
@@mishmashmedley- you need to get up to date on the animated comedy scene. Watch Family Guy.
Her whistle game is top notch as well. This song and Tokyo sunrise is amazing from her.
I LOVE when she whistles!!!!!!!!!!!!❤
Her whistle game is in an alternate universe, just like her vocal abilities
🎤🎶🔥👌
i LOVE tokyo sunrise! it's a song that could be easily overlooked, but i will reply it over & over!
I adore this song. It's like break-up despair & lost passions wrapped in a blanket of an amazing spaghetti western.
It's not just the words telling this story.
OMG!! OMG!! OMG!! LP blew my world apart in 2018 and I haven’t come down since. I’ve seen her live several times and I am blown away each time. Yes, her vibrato is insane as is her vocal control ( Cover of Halo Live from East West Studios 🤯🥵).
Yes that cover is amazing
Ditto on Halo cover!
I came here to mention her Halo cover too!
That Halo cover is as amazing as Disturb's cover of Sound of Silence! Just mind-blowing awesomeness! I would love to see a reaction video of Johnette Napolitano from Concrete Blonde
I didn't know I needed a vocal coach gushing over this performance for 20 minutes straight, but as it turns out.. I did.
LOVE your reaction, and absolutely adore LP. The amount of passion & lust she pores into this performance just takes my breath away. It's mesmerizing to watch & listen. I totally felt your enthusiasm, too.
Had the pleasure of meeting her in 2004. At an open mic. She was hopping up to promote a show in town the following night. I'm about to take the stage, and the guy running the open mic asked if I minded if this band from NYC went on before me. Of course I wouldn't mind. I was transfixed. Then, a voice in my head tells me, "You gotta FOLLOW that." Seen her several times since, and it's always amazing.
OMGOMGOMG I've been WAITING for this!! LP's voice is absolutely amazing, I fell in love with it the moment I first heard it and this live performance of Lost On You is FAR superior to the album version.
I remember the time I saw her in a small festival : All we knew about her was this song. Me and my friend are huge metalheads, but we decided to hang around and see what she sounded like live and WOW! This was in 2016 or 2017 and this is still one of my strongest live experience!!! She just captured the hole crowd. We were blown away. I LOVE her music and her approach.
Dive deep into LP you won’t be disappointed. 7 years and I am still obsessed.
The vocal performance in this song is unbelievable! What a fabulous job!
This song was stuck in my head for about 3 months. Just saw LP twice last week as they performed at Bluesfest in Australia over Easter ❤😊
Yay,, her voice is amazing. My first song was muddy waters. Seen her live 3 times and she sounds just like this.
Her song," Into The Wild" is what got me into her. It was used for a credit card commercial. Or maybe it was insurance. Innyhoo, she is freakin amazing!
Oh man same, for me it was from a Ski-movie called intervention. Amazing song
It was used in the the Tv-Show „Being Human“ where i instantly fell in love with her, she also has a superb live Performance of it.
Love Into the Wild! 🙌🏼
Her live performance of 'Into the Wild' was the first time I heard of her and I just couldn't wait to hear more. I've come back to that particular song often through the years and I don't think that will ever stop.
I believe it was a car commercial! the exact same thing happened to me, the moment i heard her voice i looked it up also immediately! I'm glad i wasnt the only one 😅
Can't wait for your reaction! You really need to check out her live performance of Beyonce's "Halo". Utterly blown away!
that's exactly what i was thinking about when Elizabeth was talking about pure, perfect sounds not being always the best choice, and that it's often better to have sounds that are not perfect but reflect the emotions.
I feel like this is all of our reaction to her. She is absolutely amazing and immediately draws her in. I'm so glad you have been introduced to her. I have been waiting for this for 2 years haha.
Couldn't agree more!
It's hard not to get starstruck with Elizabeth while she so accurately describes what we're all hearing in the music she's reviewing. Elizabeth, I agree with you that everyone's got their anatomy to help them shape their own unique sound, but what you're so absolutely stellar at is not only putting your own talent into practice, but also showcasing other people's and spreading the love of anything musical. You're an inspiration
I never heard of this artist before. I like this song and her performance. She is very distinctive.
Yes!!! LP! ❤❤❤If you won't have enough of her after this (and you won't), go for cover of Halo. Not her songwriting, but her version is divine and leave me tingling all over for a long time after hearing that.
Yes! Highly recommend - the best "Halo" version ever!
I'll check it out! Thanks!
A big YES from here - I think it's even better than this.
Her appearance on a Palaye Royale track on their most recent is an amazing track. Love getting to hear more from her.
Yes!!! She and Remington sound so good together on “Line It Up”!!! I’d love to see TCV check out Palaye sometime, I’ve think she’d love Rem’s vocals!
The amount of wailing in this song drives home the lyrics and its just so beautiful. It feels like she’s been ripped apart at times. LP is amazing 😊
I’m so thrilled you explored a LP song! You 100% need to cover more of her amazing catalog of music!
I love watching people react to this performance. I've always loved the song but this rendition of it is even more special. The almost-opera bits toward the end never fail to surprise. Her voice and the way she uses it is really quite unique.
This!!
If you want to experience her range, I'd listen to Tokyo Sunrise. Absolutely awestruck
tokyo sunrise live, it's the song i always recommend!
“Forever for now” by LP
Her mother passed away when LP was a teenager. LP wrote the song about the loss.
I absolutely love LP. Saw her live last year, and she was amazing. So many levels and amazing vocal abilities.
Gah! So jealous. I really wanted to see her in Barcelona but didn't manage to go.
I was in Spain last October (I'm argentinian) and I was in her show in Madrid and was nuts, I'd never forget that.
"A different kind of perfection." That sums up LP beautifully. I really enjoyed your reaction, thank you.
Oooh I'm looking forward to this one! "Lost on you" is one of those amazing earworms where you really can't get enough of! :-)
Seriously, yes!!!!!
Oh my! I heard this for the first time in 2017. We were on a long holiday in Scotland with my girlfriend, and it just played on the background in a charity cafe. It was so good I had to walk up and ask them what it was. They brought it to me later written on a paper napkin. We have been listening to it ever since 🤍
Another one of LP's that I really loved is the live recording of Halo at EastWest Studios. It's on her channel. That really shows how they are in front of a crowd and it's magical.
Elizbeth, you said that you heard classical in her voice, well her mom was an opera singer and told that she had to control her voice. LP took opera lessons to control her voice, and we have the delightful end product. Thanks for your reaction!
I think her mother used to be an opera singer, and it shows on songs like "when we're high", "halo" or "one night in the sun", I really love her vibrato
Have you listened to their first cds ?
Found LP randomly as a teenager bc their single Night Like This was the free download of the week on iTunes…absolutely fell in love! Lost on You is one of the most incredible songs ever. SO much raw emotion.
What LP does with this song by building tension in the verses then launches herself with a such an emotional chorus then ends with an unresolved note says as much that as with the entire song. Heartbreak personified.
Her voice is a chisel at the soul that pierces even the strongest front. Each high note pushes further and eventually the dam breaks, your emotions flood out and you take in all the pain of the writing. This is a masterful song.
That description is something itself.
I have no understanding of music theory but love your genuine enthusiasm and enjoyment of music and the way you can read emotions from artists.
It's also hilarious to see you so smitten by LP's charisma. I mean aren't we all 😅
LPs voice is just addictive, please do more reactions to them!
I’ve been listening to LP quite a bit, but this version of the song is new to me. What a performance!
I discovered this artist about a week ago after her song "House on Fire" had appeared on my daily recommended playlist, and I immediately added it to my favorites, and have been listening to it these few days, and now I open RUclips and see Elizabeth doing the LP vocal analysis. Good coincidences like that just make my day
I just found out she existed like few weeks ago and was amazed by how unique is her voice and what she does with it so I'm extra excited for this one 😊
I first heard LP with this live performance as well, and it’s always a treat to show it to music lovers. What a unique voice and amazing technique 🤩
I remember listenning to this song in the studio version, and thinking "no way she can sing like this live". Oops i was wrong, she is awesome.
After the Darkness critique and JHRA chat, i love this channel even more.
Oh, I really love LP and their voice, but I had sort of forgotten about it. What a treat! I would happily watch you react to another song or two for sure.
LP is one of my favorite singers of all time! In my mind, she’s right up there with Pat Benatar, and Steve Perry, but she’s a truly amazing songwriter. I’m super jelly.
Oh my lord lol. I had no idea who this person was when I clicked on this video, but I think I've found a new obsession!!! Now I'm going to go find every single video I can of her. Her voice and story telling ability is just pure magic. Hands down my favorite type of female voice to listen to.
Omgosh, finally!!!! I have been waiting for someone to check out LP! Thank you!! 🥰
I discovered Her a couple of years ago. Unfortunately couldn't go to her show here in Argentina. But she's amazing.
very cool funky, jazzy vibes on this song, can't wait to see Elizabeth's reaction...😎
She is a master and so very underrated. I had the privilege of seeing her in concert just three weeks ago in Melbourne, Australia. One of, if not, the best live show I've ever seen. Just awesome!! Glad you found her!!
Yes, I'm lost in the voice, ive never heard such a voice!! I'm addicted to this sound. ❤
I'm so excited you did this! Your reaction to LP and analysis were great! I think you will LOVE their cover of Beyoncés Halo, it is sooo good and really shows off their vibrato capabilities and high notes!
I love LP, and it's almost depressing how popular she isn't but deserves to be. My favorite performances are all the McKittrick Hotel live performances on her channel, but almost any live of performance of hers is amazing.
Love that you’re the only one who’s recognized the whistle
I haven’t been here in a while. I’m so happy you did LP. She is definitely one of the most underrated singers in the world.
Her work with Grey Daze on "Shouting Out" was very impressive. She sings along with Chester Bennington's vocals from the 90s track.
Hello! I just wanted to share something about this particular song: I'm french and a few years back, this song was pretty big. You could hear it everywhere on the radio. But one of the most insane thing about it is that it wasn't the studio version of it that was famous, but THIS version of it. I know it's pretty hard for english songs to be popular here, but the fact that someone who is not very well known made it to our radios and the song not being the studio version? You need to have really touched us. LP even did a song with one of our singers, Mylène Farmer. I'm tipping my hat for LP, because she did an amazing job.
I don't know what changed with me but now as a 30 year old man I can't help but tear up a little at the beauty of and emotion in this performance. 5 years ago I don't think I would have had the same emotional response.
Excellent analysis Liz. I've been an LP fan for a while. She's wonderful. Her songs make me want to take her into my arms and hug her soul...but that's exactly what she does to us with her music.
I saw her live without knowing her music. I became an instant fan.
My favorite song from her is RECOVERY, it's about recovering from a relationship
She has an amazing voice. We are in for a treat!
She is really great at many things here. Her song writing is top notch. It is very clear why she is such a famous song writer. Her songs all ebb and flow in such a natural way. She leaves room for the singer to shine though as well. Her mic work is awesome. She knows exactly what distance will make the sound have the right felling. She knows her very high voice will be lost on the mic if she is not rather far away, but also knows she needs to be right up on it to really get that low, smokey feel. And finally her singing is wonderful. She clearly has a lot of tools in her vocal tool box.
I absolutely LOVE LP's voice and I love LOVE this song. I was so thrilled to see this!
LP's song Muddy Waters is one of my favourite songs ever. It's incredible.
Love LP. My personal favorite is "When we're high" but, as I know you love crowd interaction, if you can find one of her festival videos, she I'd quite possibly the most crowd interactive artist I've ever seen. Noone else grabs people's phones so that she can sing directly into their camera, them hand it back to them. Extremely personal in such a fantastic way
I learned of LP just a few months ago and loved this song. So glad Elizabeth analyzed it. I learned LP has written songs that some big names have sung. Obviously a very talented artist and songwriter.
Oh but if you haven't heard her live Tokyo sunrise you need to it's absolutely insane the jumps she can do in her voice
I'm so old that the initials LP stand for Long Play, as in an album.
Me too.
Its a quite brilliant song and performance, I must have played it 100 times and it never gets stale.
Thank you for yet another great artist you have introduced to me. She is going straight into my playlist.
So Love that you reacted to this! Many thanks and appreciate the great breakdown of the vocals
LP is amazing. Also love "Muddy Waters," "When We're High," and her cover of "Halo." She's fabulous and unique.
Her mother is an opera singer, it seems she learned from her.
I’ve been asking for this for so long. Thank you for reviewing it!
This is the song that blew up my musical world. I was and still am amazed at the talent and artistry of this extraordinary human.
So happy you're doing a reaction to LP. They are amazing! Such a powerful and unique voice.
By the way, If you're looking for more epic Japanese Metal, I highly recommend Lovebites. Every member of the band is an elite level musician, especially their vocalist. Their live video of their song "Holy War" is a great place to start: ruclips.net/video/bgAxpEpEcno/видео.html
This isn’t even the best song but yes she’s so very talented! I remember the first time I seen her live, me and my then friend, now husband, were at this festival in Seattle. We were both in the navy and stationed out there. We were really drunk and I remember we were both so amazed by her voice but also we were just going on and on about trying to figure out if she was a man or a woman and also trying to just figure out who she was in general so we can listen to her after the festival. This was the first time we ever heard of her, we didn’t know of her beforehand. This was also over 10 years ago so we were probably pretty ridiculous with our debate but we still agreed that she sounded like a literal angel.
I just started watching your videos, and was hoping you had done this song, what excellent timing. This is one of my top songs for vocals. Just awesome.
She is an amazing artist. I just love LP! So awesome to see how much you enjoy her music. She is a master of air control ;)
I would love to see you react to her song Muddy waters ❤️
Finally, was hoping for Lost On You or Muddy Waters from that session. It's a shame the studio versions are so overproduced compared to this. There are just artists which need a more minimal setup. Another artists I'm still missing is Terence Trent D'arby/Sananda Maitreya, who has some incredible live performances: ruclips.net/video/zA8hE50xJeE/видео.html and as we just had John Farnham his version of help (Beatles) is a must too: ruclips.net/video/dv54giOSRKs/видео.html
Those special breaks she takes in the chorus sound like she’s sobbing. So emotional.
Good gracious almighty! Thank heavens you finally reacted to LP! Welcome to the Billion+ views of this incredible, unique, and captivating performance 🎉 As always, you have amazing commentary! Thank you!
LP is artistry.
TOOL- Vicarious.
I was introduced to her with this song and i instantly fell in love. She's phenomenal.
Thanks for the new addition to my library!! Awesome 🤙🏻🤙🏻
LP is amazing. Just as good live as well. It's a shame she's a huge star but just not in her own country.
Why does everyone only react to this one song of hers? It's not as if she doesn't have more to offer. The Beyoncé cover Halo is great, for example.
I love how excited you get! You're video's are so fun to watch😊
I've been waiting for this one. I love this song.
So glad you've found LP! More please! Love love love!!!
Thank you so much for an incredible break-down of this masterpiece. Great work !! LP is one of my favorite singers and song writers, and for good reason. Love from Norway ♥♥♥♥♥
so glad i stumbled on your channel!!! it's like watching my own reactions but you have the vocabulary to put it into words!!!
I've loved LP for so long , especially this song, love this react !!!!
IVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS!!! I love LP so much and have been hoping you would listen!
Her voice is so wonderful! Can’t wait! I have such a crush. 🤭
I have no idea how I missed this I love the song I am looking forward to hearing your analysis so much This is going to be a great time well spent
I always appreciate something extra from an artist like that little whistle. It just really seems to show a deeper understanding of music writing and how to pull you into the music.
