Yes GAMERA should be held just as much respect as GODZILLA, because GAMERA is a symbol of never giving up, GAMERA is that selfless kaiju who no matter what dosen't stop fighting tell its over, you know GODZILLA is just symbolism for the nuclear bombing in Japan but GAMERA is the symbolic representation of no matter how hard things are just keep going. I loved the haisai GAMERA films and they gave me a sense of humanity toward GAMERA and his goal of annihilating gyouses from the Earth and keeping Earth safe from other threats like legion and Ieris to name a cupple. The GAMERA anime must be good or I'm going to have a neural-heart attack.
1) The Heisei Gamera trilogy was intended to be a trilogy. The story simply ended in part 3. And the viewer was supposed to draw its own conclusions. 2) Making Gamera movies would have been pointless since Godzilla was originally supposed to die for real in Godzilla vs. Destroyah. And it was the failure of the American Godzilla that led Toho to revive the franchise. Just like with Dragonball Evolution. 4) There is a fourth movie called Gamera the Brave which didn't sell. And it killed the franchise.
Don't forget that Gamera was originally meant to be a full on Godzilla rip off. And it was in later movies that he became his own character separate from Godzilla.
I'm excited that Gamera is getting more love recently, I hope that Netflix does a good job with the TV show

Gyaos is one of gamera's most fearsome enemies I like how it was portrayed in the heisei films excited to see it in the gamera anime.
Same. I hate how they cliffhanger us in Heisei and then they make Brave... That didn't help that movie to start. I also don't like the dark tone being taken out either. Yes folks died. But Heisei had a darker tone.
That is what makes a good Kaiju film or at least one of the reasons. Being kid friendly is just a dumb move, period. There needs to be some stakes.
If Bambi's mom didn't die, Simba's dad didn't die, The Beast didn't get mortally wounded, and so many other kids' movies didn't have this stuff. The impact would be moot at best.
When you put tragedy or stakes. It makes a movie boring. Kids aren't dumb and the world is far crueler than any movie. So stop insulting their intelligence and make a decent movie where, sometimes a character does die, and doesn't come back.
@@spades77 Dude the ending to g3 was purposely made that way, kaneko didn't see himself making anything beyond a g3 but was open to trying if g3 reached 1 billion yen but even then the entire message of g3 was faith which is why the ending was personally left up for interpretation. Gamera the brave HAD a dark tone. It just wasn't dark from beginning to end like g3 was. You can balance a dark tone and a lighthearted one.
G1 in comparison to g2 and g3 was literally the most lighthearted entry in the trilogy despite it too had dark moments in the film. The brave had stakes but it didn't need to kill off a kid to prove that. That just screams *Let's be edgy for the sake of it* instead of executing this concept or that concept correctly. It's like you forgotten....what target audience the gamera franchise was made for in the first place.....kids....you can easily make a product BOTH kids and adults can like. Gamera the brave is essentially that. If godzilla can appeal to both groups, so can gamera.
Do you think Gamera is overlooked in the kaiju genre? I think since he's a giant turtle and not an atomic lizard of death, is why Godzilla gets way more respect.

I think Gamera isn't given enoughj justice, budget and marketing-wise, and that's what made it less popular nowadays. Quality is on par with Godzilla, potential too. I hope we could see a modern iteration with better effects and writing than "the brave (2006)", not a bad Gamera movie, but not as good as Heisei trilogy. I'm probably dreaming, but I think Gamera would fit perfectly in the Monsterverse beside Goji and Kong, as the third major force.

I do love the gamera series. I think that they both are great monsters, but godzilla especially heisei era targeted a bit older of an audience, which might have helped him be more popular. Both are awesome though!

Gamera is one of the best Kaijus around. And it had some of the best villains ever. Also in the older movies. Some of these movies might not be good, but the enemies were absolutely perfect.

Gamera is just as cool as both Godzilla and King Kong. He does deserve more respect since he’s very underrated plus the Heisei trilogy is one of the best Kaiju if not best movies in general. Plus Gamera is very unique in his own way. I could definitely see him in the Monsterverse even though the chances of him appearing are slim to non, I’m just happy that Gamera is making a comeback. So yeah Gamera does deserve equal respect.

Sometimes I wonder if new Kaiju will be in Gamera rebirth, maybe Daiei will show there equivalent to Tohos Mothra, a giant insect to be and allie to Gamera and maybe a popular ship like Godzilla and Mothra Gamera seems to be a bit lonely, he needs another monster to love, only not a giant Butterfly like Mothra, instead make her a giant wasp named Vetria and she would be given the title the Protector of the Universe, much like how Gamera is the Guardian of the Universe

When you say Gamera was created to hunt down Gyaos, it reminds me of Monsterverse Godzilla hunting down MUTO's cause they both want to wipe out everything in their path.
Gamera like Kong deserves respect as do all famous Kaiju and monster film characters,but I don't think Gamera is considered such an icon as Godzilla and Kong.But he does deserve respect and a new series of films at some point.
Gamera (particularly the Heisei era) is a prime example of quality over quantity that most Godzilla movies just never seem to get right...
I Love both Godzilla and Gamera, I would really like to see you guys cover the Gamera video games, the ones I know of are Gamera for Gameboy (there is an English translation rom out there) and Gamera 2000 for the PS1.
If Gamera was confirmed to be in the Monsterverse, my theory is that the gyaos would be a deadly invasive species of pterosaurs that adapted and evolved in the hollow earth much like the Skullcrawlers, Warbats, Mutos, and Camazotz.
I am doing a Gamerathon and so far the Showa era has its ups and downs. Not as good as the Showa era Godzilla movies, but there has been one Gamera movie so far that I really enjoyed and it was Gamera vs Barugon. That movie is dark as hell in terms of the story and is kind of graphic.
I love Gamera & Godzilla! I don't think there will ever be a crossover! But I would love it if it happened!

Sealed in the hollow earth, as would Gamera as well ? Both awakened by human activity...
for the gyaos lore it is likely the atlantean military wanted to expand the empire and conscripted a weapon to be made named the gyaos. it likely was intended for the weapon to be easily controlled except someone didn't add a limiter on what was to be hunted. without the limiter or control factor the gyaos viewed everything as a food source. Gamera was made to correct that mistake but the limiter or only hunting gyaos was added but even then something went wrong for the atlanteans. While gyaos remained a priority for Gamera to hunt something else was sparked within the turtle when it saw it's first child. Because of this Gamera became more protector of children in showa era and to an extent in the heisei era. As a franchise Gamera was made to cash in on the kaiju craze started by Godzilla considering a fair few of Gamera's powers are similar to Godzilla's. Like the breath attack and a grappling ability. Only real difference between them ability wise is that the turtle flies naturally unlike the G-man. Gamera has been a very popular kaiju in his own right unlike others that cropped up. I can see both Gamera and Godzilla in the same universe when you consider how many of Gamera's foes came from beyond the stars and how many of Godzilla's came from same. I think all things considered Gamera is like a first line defense against invaders while Godzilla go after the ones that get past and land like Ghidorah did. Godzilla's priority is the balance of life on the planet keeping everything in check and going after others second. Actually one can equate the gyaos from Gamera to the muto from monsterverse Godzilla, since both species if left unchecked can upset the balance of the planet as a whole and wipe out life as we know it.
I totally agree,the Gamera franchise is very overlooked,it deserves way better,especially for its Heisei movies and the only Millenium one.
Now,do I think it's better than some Godzilla movies? No,not all,not in my opinion,because,while it definitely followed the same path as the Godzilla franchise,with the Showa Era being really bad and cheesy (except a couple of movies that are enjoyable),the Heisei being the golden age,and doing a fairly good job with the Millenium,to me,Gamera is not at the same level of Godzilla,both the character and the movies,they definitely go close,especially if we're talking of the Heisei Era,but I cannot go as far as saying that they are better than Godzilla movies such as GvsD
Agreed. Gamera is deserving of number 2. But Godzilla will always be number 1. But Gamera does deserve more spotlight and hopefully he'll become relevant. I will always hold Godzilla at the top. He was my hero as a kid. Never saw the old Gamera movies. But I loved the Heisei era ones! I was severely disappointed by Gamera the Brave. They took out what made the Heisei era ones good.
It felt dumb down. I didn't think it was bad, just not nearly as good as his Heisei Era trilogy. I wish stupid studios would stop making everything more kid friendly. Just make it good. If you can attract both types of audience, young and old. You'll make WAY more money. Kids are fickle and stupid I'm sorry to say. Just how we keep losing good shows, because the stupid toy line did terrible 🙄
But enough of all that. I'm praying Rebirth doesn't suck like singular point did... How do you mess that up?! It should have just been Heisei Godzilla, but as an anime. But nope 😑
Here's hoping the Gamera crew knows how to make a decent series. Then maybe Toho will try again and do better with the anime.
Gamera the brave isn't a millennium gamera film, the term "millennium era" only refere to the godzilla franchise, not other tokusatsu properties. Gamera the brave is considered part of the heisei gamera era despite not being connected to the trilogy. Kadokawa including it in not 1 but 2 heisei gamera blu ray/4k box sets says alot.

Gamera is just as good of a kaiju as Godzilla and the other kaiju and hopefully the animated series does work and hopefully in the future we get a Gamera movie.

Godzilla is cool but Gamera is criminally underrated, they do certain things in the films that are better than some of the other Godzilla movies (Im saying the Heisei series of Gamera not the Goofy Showa.)
Also I am a massive fan of Godzilla but Gamera needs way more attention.

Having watched all the Gamera and Godzilla films... I would say the "Friend to all children" title Gamera had from his earlier films kinda hurt him a bit. Showa era Godzilla could be goofy at times but I wouldn't say the Big G was kid focused as Showa era Gamera. Hesei era Gamera definitely dropped the kid focus hard. Also I have been watching Kaiju films since I was 5. I blame my mother. lol
@@noseXD20000 guardian of the universe is a good title but is sorta useless when heisei gamera only goes into space (technically the atmosphere) only once and never does it again. For the most part, his title of "the last hope" makes more sense

To me, both of them have been synonymous. In both respects.
Does Gamera deserve the same respect as Godzilla? His Heisei trilogy averaged better than the entirety of the Heisei Godzilla series, with many of those films actually rating lower than either of the Gamera trilogy. Yes. He absolutely deserves it.
Also, according to a comic, that is, at least considered, canon, Gyaos was created to defend Atlantis from a serpentine Kaiju species called Garasharp.
Hesei Gamera is as good as the king of the monsters. Godzilla has international movies on his side. I'm looking forward to seeing him again and if his design is like the 2015 short he'll be a wrecking machine. Watch out all monsters.

The Heisei films made Gyaos far more deadlier and scarier than the Show films, and the 2015 short film made Gyaos far more scarier, more like feral, rabid fiends that'll eat their own just to satisfy their hunger.
Gamera is his universes "godzilla", however he is marginally weaker than godzilla. He has few advantages, such as flight, and space travel, but his greatest attack is merely super hot plasma. (I don't believe it has atomic properties.)
His range of mobility is galactic, as he either patrols a wide swath of space or simply follows humanity out into the stars.
If gamera could be given an upgrade, atomic capabilities or even an explainable increase in size and strength, then he could better match godzilla in overall strength.
Gamera definitely deserves to be on the same mantle as Godzilla, Kong, and Ultraman for sure

I would consider the Gamera Heisei trilogy as 3 of the top 10 best kaiju films of all time. The other seven include Gojira(1954), Ghidorah the Three Headed Monster, Godzilla:2000, GMK, King Kong(either 1933 or 2005), Pacific Rim, and Frankenstein Conquers the World. This is just my opinion though.

Gamera rulz!!!! In fact, I think they should do a crossover with Godzilla fighting Legion and Gamera fighting Destroya. They both can combine forces to defeat both very deadly enemies.

Gyaos is more of a bat creature, very different from those two.

I know this wasn't your question but it would be a dream come true for gamera to be included in the monsterverse.
Another reason that gamera may have not attended the same popularity is Godzilla stateside is because the American dubs of most of Gamera's films don't even bill themselves as gamera movies.
The Hesei Gamera movies are great and I’m surprised more people haven’t given them a shot. I plan on showing them to my Girlfriend soon, she loved the Universal Godzilla movies so I’m hoping she likes them!

They created Gyaos to destroy monsters the I forgot the name of that were destroying their civilzation.
You know it would actually be cool if they introduced camera to the monsterverse now keep in mind I'm definitely advocate for wanting to start a whole new Godzilla series it's only cuz I have my own personal visions for it
In terms of what gamera could be he would quite literally just be the guardian of the galaxy or universal whatever meanwhile he wouldn't be as powerful as some kind you like Godzilla or Ghidorah what would make cameras are dangerous is his intelligence combined with wide variety of capabilities
And it could be to wear gamer hasn't shown up yet because he was fighting some other monster on another planet and even with Ghidorah showing up as well as mechagodzilla camera has not seen anything that would hurt the natural order to significantly since not only could the Titans kill that threat on their own but in most cases there was no permanent damage after the battle
But now they could have mankind trying to bioengineer their own Titans from the remanence of pre-existing ones or alternatively they wake up and artificially created tighten that was already created
Not only with this new creature be one of the toughest thus far but even if it's killed the damages friends leave will be far too great for the earth to survive
And of course as the humans learn about the previous highly advanced civilization that tried to toy with nature and how Earth's ecosystem was significantly in irreversibly damaged from it and why our planet isn't already better then it is currently Gamera would show up to help Godzilla and Kong fight the remanence of this once colossal superbeast
After a quick battle between the few to set up packing order between the three of them for the time being. So like calling and camera would be fighting alongside Earth's monsters against a planet-wide army
Just want to be as big or as powerful as some threats to come in the main enemy is this film after the big tiny goes down would probably be time not the actual threat of monsters because if they don't destroy these monsters in time the planet will be irreversibly damaged again
So we would just get a pretty big monster bash not as big as it could be because we'd still want the save some for later but big enough to wear be one hell of an introduction for Gamera while also reinvigorating the excitement for Godzilla and Kong
You even have camera unlocked so new abilities for the other Titans whenever destroyer comes around eventually either as the last fill in or second-to-last if we're bringing in bagon
For Kong I'm not sure what to get him because you could just give him a superpower but honestly I'm less if it's the very very end of the series I don't want to give Kong super powers cuz I'd rather him after use his brain but if we're fighting you one of the two last big bad monsters out of mind letting come get superpowers ones especially since it's coming at the sacrifice of another big title monster
As for Godzilla he would probably unlock some version of the heat-ray like for instance the red spiral heat ray
And of course because it would be destroyer we would probably get burning Godzilla one more time only this time burning Godzilla uses his keep Ray sends his pulses wouldn't do anything to destroy you and even though it'd be stronger his regular red Spiral heat ray strong enough either so he has to use his burning heat ray but of course it has so much power in that weapon that it would even damaged Godzilla for using it
Keep in mind these are just loose thoughts and personally I would do something far bigger and far more complex than anyting showing in this comment because I would want a really big long-lasting series that would be plenty of fun to watch all the way through so obviously this, is nothing but a bunch of loose thoughts that I've gathered together and shoved into one comment

I just recently finished watching the revenge of Iris and it was a pretty good movie in my opinion the story the plot and the overall design of gamera was great even Iris
BTW, just wanna let you guys know that April 7th 2023 celebrates the 90th anniversary of King Kong. I feel like that needs to be brought up.

So in a way, Pacific Rim has the same story as Gamera. The only real plot difference is the Kaiju were created by aliens to be deliberately destructive. Hmmm.
Actually Pacific Rim is more like Zone Fighter, since in that show the garoga aliens create monsters to destroy the Earth and stuff.

Why isn't Gamera in the monster verse again? Gamera has earned his way in the monsterverse with is history and should be an Allie to Godzilla.

Oddly enough, I have also been watching the Gamera movies recently.
Should he be as famous as Godzilla? Probably not.
The heisei Gameras were incredible, but the ones before were so, so bad. So even though Gamera as a franchise has been around for several decades, he really only has 4 good movies.
And I know you could make similar arguments about Godzilla, but he came first, and has more movies. He captured the spot of THE monster in the public's eye, not because of decades or number of movies, but because of how hard the original movie hit. It was a perfect storm of timing, and tone.
Gamera would have an uphill battle if they tried to have him to get to the top monster spot, and it would take so many years. I really don't think the series could do that.
Still excited for the show though.

@@spades77 Yeah, Toho should remain the supreme owners of Godzilla, because if it wasn't for them, Legendary would have made another Zilla, the only reason why Legendary's Godzilla turned out as cool as he is, is because Toho was supervising the development.
