SPOILER WARNING: New readers beware! That goblin you like is a very popular character! :) The author puts up a poll once a month for patreon supporters to vote on which chapter comes next, out of a handful they want to write. Whenever goblins are one of the options, they clean house. There’s more goblin chapters coming up, no worries about that! Wistram Days is a bit weird as well, in the web release, that whole backstory was split up into two chunks! With other chapters between! As a long term reader, I agree, it felt weirdly placed. Laken is fairly unpopular, or at least has loud detractors. I like him personally, especially how Pirate writes his POV, it really gets me into how being blind changes the way he experiences the world. Pirate did a great job there
@@MattsFantasyBookReviews I think most of the fan favorites right now you haven’t met yet, there are a few you have, but they’re loved for character development that hasn’t started at this point, so I’ll say no more. :) Rags is definitely a top favorite, as are a few of the goblins she talks to often.
I started book one last week because of you. What an amazing experience it has been. I love feeling immersed in a huge magical fully realized world. Thanks Matt!
Thanks to you I am reading this series and I absolutely love it ❤ Thank you for sharing! Just finished book 3 and I will immediately (with a short stop here) jump to book 4. Yay!
When it's done right, litrpg has the potential to be a truly incredible genre and TWI hits that elusive sweet spot. The leveling system in this series can be as much of a curse as a boon, which I think is interesting. Normally classes in litrpg are treated as inherently good, and exploring the idea that opens up all manner of possibilities that *will* be explored later. Even at it's weakest, it stands head and shoulders over every other litrpg I've read.
Glad you’re getting through it. I felt Pirateaba matures as a writer in later volumes. The prose is objectively better. She improves dramatically in shifting viewpoints, and weaving together related threads. Early on, she skips viewpoints that seem completely unrelated. However, it is definitely in that vernacular American transparent style, as Neil Gaiman calls it. For webnovel prose, it is top level. Volume 4-5 focuses on goblins, and later volumes expand to epic scope; cant wait to see you there.
I read the first hundred chapters a few years back, when it was new, now i find it a billion words long, already got to volume 5 , really enjoyed it, it does have it slow moments however it always picks up and what you thought was boring or slow becomes more and attractive to read
Matt I hate you because of this new obsession I have with TWI. I’m 75%done with book 2 and I’m loving it so far. Thanks for the recommendation! Your channel is amazing.
I find some of your predictions interesting. Although I do think it's a little odd that you think the end of this is a "everything is going fine" tone given what exactly happens in the final Interlude chapter of the book/volume.
Yeah it is the weakest of the bunch, because it does the setup (themes, plotpoints and character relation) for the the next major arc and overall series. Now that the setup is complete, you are in for a ride for the next 5 e-book volumes i.e, the next major arc. You will be surprised by Rags story arc in the subsequent sections. Pisces , Ceria plot has a great resolution and gets resolved way further in the series. As we go along in the series, other Pov(most still not introduced) gets prominence, but Erin pov remains our main pov, and you just have to get along with her introducing american culture, which is done in a lighthearted manner . The novel also has a very beautiful explanation of the cultural bawckwardness of the world.
I recently got caught up and in waiting for aba to come back im trying to find any media related to twi lol keep in mind that with this series it being so long there will be entire books that will feel like a total slog. But just know that getting thru them is so worth it. I promise you will look back on the slog and nearly want to re read it to make sure you didn’t miss anything! Also everything that you want out of the book you will get. Nearly every time you meet a cool side character you will get a few chapters in their pov. This series is such a treat
At this point you might as well wait for the rewrite, which is due any day now! The author is giving volume 1 a professional level rewrite, which will be uploaded to the website. No word on whether or not the kindle version will reflect the changes, but the rewrite should be done soon, as pirateaba is currently taking a break to finish it up!
I started reading the wandering inn about couple of month ago and for the most part I liked it by the time I got to around 25 chapters erin got so annoying and infuriating that I couldn't stand it and the plot was very slow so i just had to drop it
I hate LitRPGs. I love The Wandering Inn. Good writing is good writing. It also helps that the LitRPG elements function more like a soft magic system in disguise.
Writing is too good to put under litrpg category which mostly have subpar writing. Most chapters of TWI can be a full publish novel and many characters in it develop so well that it could be a full book about every single one of them.
Rags is a very major character and will show up a lot more. And about Ryoka, she is supposed to be this edgy, genuis froma very rich and influential family, so she has a big ego and is an actual prodigy, but the Author counter that by making her the dumbest character possible that makes mistakes wherever she goes. I don't want to spoil anything so all I'll say is that she is book smart and that is all. Chrishmas did kinda not hold up IMO but trust me, the books only get better. Both Erin and Ryoka get a lot of development and get way better as characters, to the point where all you want is to read about Erin creating a chaotic mess
The Christmas stuff might have been more fun when I read it as it was coming out (which I'm assuming was around Christmas), so it just felt really shoehorned in. I can't wait to read more!
@@MattsFantasyBookReviews Yeah. That why i said it. I love it. I love to heard what you love and hate about what happened in the story. For me I love the book1 where Erin use the skill and the chess club so much. Just like you I love Rag's progress and the whole Goblin culture and how sincere they are but yet how savage they are. I am too invested in TWI that i can hardly read other worlds. Thanks for making these videos. Your reviews introduce me to the others fascinating worlds.
Yeah, while the prose is an early stopping factor for many readers, I think the reasons people stop beyond v3/v4 are less about that and more along the lines of your problems with the end of Winter Solstice--which is to say, when the story is doing something you're invested in, it's amazing, but when the story turns to characters you don't care about, it can be a slog to wade through. Fortunately, I think the writing only trends upwards over time, and even the worst chapters of the last few volumes are as good as, if not better than most of what you've read thus far... but I won't deny that over time, you're gonna have to go through a lot of stuff involving some characters or events that you won't care to read about. Everyone's got them, and it's different for most of us! For me personally, the low point of TWI was... the opening arc of the next book, actually, but even then, pirate got the message and figured out how to make them more interesting later on (they also figure out how to handle your issue with Ryoka, actually!)
I love this series and am currently only a few chapters behind online so it's hard to remember this far back. I'll try not spoil anything. To address Laken... f*** that guy. I use to enjoy his pov with Durene. Here is the thing about this series, there are not really any bad guys. There are people doing what they think is best. When you think there is a bad guy, you can expect a chapter later from their pov. So even with the best intentions, they will make mistakes and sometimes grow from them. I just hold a grudge against Laken for his mistakes and now only tolerate him. As for Wistram chapters and not bringing the story back around to highlight Ceria and Pisces; you learn to love the delayed gratification. I use to try imaging where the story was going to go and I was usually wrong. You think that new skill is the perfect thing that will save the day the author will figure out a way to get that character to the event in time, but it doesn't happen. The situation resolves in completely different way. This story wanders, so have to relax and let it flow around you. It so enjoyable when some off-hand comment from three books back becomes relevant. You mentioned Christmas, so that means the winter solstice has passed, and that... Remember that.
Oh man I hope I disagree with you on Laken, I LOVE him so far. And yeah I figure that the Wistram stuff becomes relevant, I was just kind of hoping that from a pacing standpoint that it would be relevant right away. No huge deal, just something I wanted to note.
