    I have a similar pump set up, but I’m connected to a 275G IBC tote. Couple of suggestions. I use the same intake hose, but only about 18”. I also use a 3/4” discharge hose, much better flow and not as hard on the pump

    I have that same pump connected to my 3 330 IBC totes which receives water from 1/2 my roof, and it drives my sprinkler very well. The prob is that we do not have enough rain to keep the water level in the totes. So, I'm digging a shallow well this weekend to keep the totes full (unless I can get enough water flow from the well, then I'll go straight to the lawn).

I'm not sure of the diameters that would work ok with the pump. Home Depot (Canada) - "3/4 Inch Inside Diameter X 1 Inch Outside Diameter" or "1/2 Inch Inside Diameter X 3/4 Inch Outside Diameter "... which would be good ?? Thank you.

    I think you've answered a question I had. I have this pump, not used yet. The manual suggest using a Y splitter on the outflow to prime the pump with a separate bucket. Another video on RUclips did that setup. Is it safe to just let the intake water fill the pump and over drain it out the outlet hose?

    • @jpulley
      @jpulley  Год назад +1

      Yes that's fine. The main thing is that you don't want to run. The pump dry. In my case the rain barrel is higher than my Pump so it was primed being gravity fed. To put it really simple. Just have water in the pump casing before you turn it on.

      I have seen people run a setup off of a battery bank and solar panels. My barrel is empty in about 5 minutes I don't think it uses that much power in that time. I've just acquired two 55 gallon drums and I'll be expanding this year. I got a letter in the mail saying I use 107% more power than my efficient neighbors. We have a family of 5 and all three of my kids and myself all have gaming computers and are left on most of the time and I have a server running in the basement. I still don't think my power bill is that bad I have a level payment plan and I pay about $225 a month. When I water my grass just to keep it alive through the hottest months, my water bill goes from $140 to $250 really quick. I know some of my neighbors have to pay $400+ a month to keep their grass water everyday with their irrigation systems.

      @Daniel Kreipke I’m building a small trailer with one 330 gallon IBC tank. I have two 6V golf cart batteries wired together in series to create a 12v system. Then I have an inverter to plug a pump into it. The golf cart batteries have a solar setup so that it keeps them at least above 50% capacity at all times. The reason I’m using golf cart batteries is because they have a larger capacity than regular 12v deep cycles. Therefore allowing me to essentially move my trailer anywhere I need to without worrying about a power source. The pump is connected to the tank and two sprinklers that are permanently mounted to the sides of the trailer. I can pull the trailer wherever I need to, detach and turn on the system.

    • @jpulley

      If you were just trying to transfer from one place to the other I would say this pump would be overkill. This pump will spray water far greater than regular home pressure. You would probably get water everywhere if you were trying to fill a container indoors using this pump. This pump moves over 1,000 gallons an hour something smaller that moves 330 gph would be better. No I didn't have any trouble priming the pump. 0:52 Once I open the valve to the rain barrel it gravity feed through the pump casing and was already coming out of the sprinkler. I would make sure you have a reinforced suction hose like the one I have so it doesn't collapse and stop water flow. Using hard piping like pvc would be idea but I wanted to be able to easily hook it up and unhook it.

    You sure it’s ok the the pump backing it up like that? It wants to spit out more than 1000 an hour?

    • @jpulley
      @jpulley  2 года назад

      Yes it's fine. I'm sure the motor pulls slightly more amperage when it has to pump through nozzles like on the sprinkler. The pump is literally a sprinkler pump. Pumps are designed to push through a certain amount of head pressure. It's not limitless, but is also not zero. With my setup the barrel is empty in minutes but if you were really worried about it you could create some kind of recirculating system that would tee off and allow a certain amount of water to return back to the barrel. You could add a valve, and throttle it on the recirculation line to get the desired pressure at your lawn sprinkler.

    What is the actual GPH/GPM?

    • @jpulley
      @jpulley  Год назад

      I do not have a flow meter that can determine actual flowrate. With enough supply on the suction side and a wide open discharge I would expect the pump to get some very similar to the advertised amount. Which is 1,075 gph or about 17gpm. Restrictions on the line will increase the pressure but lower the gpm. The sprinkler itself is a restriction. 17gpm is not a lot.

    Hopefully a question you can answer. I want to pump water from a 128 gal tank thru a garden hose that will reach about 16 feet to the top of my travel trailer. Will this pump force water up a vertical hose 16 feet?

    • @jpulley
      @jpulley  3 года назад

      I can't give you an exact calculation but 16' of head pressure wont much anything for this pump to overcome. This pump handle it with plenty of power to spare. Especially through garden hose. Some people pipe larger diameter piping up to these pumps. That would be harder on the pump.

      if you look at the fan side of the pump it probably has a hole in it. You can stick a screwdriver in there and turn it to get the pump free. Sometimes these pumps just get hard to turn and if you let it stay on just humming it will burn the motor out.

This pump connected to a hose sprays water about twice the distance than connected to my house. Of course it depends on the type of sprinkler you're using. On one particular sprinkler I'm definitely getting 30 ft plus when using this pump only get around 15 feet or so when it's connected to my house.

      No, I was just running it every couple of days. A pressure switch would be a nice improvement, but sometimes when the pump sits outside for days and when I turn it on its kind stuck. I have to get a screwdriver and get it out of the bind then it runs fine. If I had a pressure switch hopefully it would trip the breaker and not burn up the pump but I would kind of worry about it starting on its on without me out there.

      Mine's been working great for 2 years now. You have to make sure gunk and corrosion inside of the pump casing don't inhibit your pump from spinning freely. If the pump can't spin and you turn it on the current on the motor will burn the pump out in minutes. I see guys out work burning out brand new $400+ commercial sump pumps in less than 24hours all the time because of this. Its only happened to me twice where I turned on the pump and it was stuck. Both times I immediately turned off the power and used a screwdriver on the non-drive end side of the pump to break it free. If I didn't realize what was going on it was have burned that pump up in minutes.
