this one will always hit me the hardest. Raiders final season in LA. All the hype heading into the season to burn in the end and Marcus Allen closing the chapter in LA.
I have a real soft spot for the 1995-1997 theme, but would've loved to see NBC keep this theme around for the playoffs, it has a lot more of a dramatic feel to it that's perfect for do-or-die games, while the later theme is more upbeat and a great mood setter for those Sunday afternoon regular season games.
Ah the Paul Tagliabue days. Sad to say, but that was quite the time for the NFL. Maybe that's just nostalgia speaking, but the 90s were amazing for the NFL.
1994 was such a terrific season in the NFL. So many storylines, so many great games. The rise of the Patriots. Elway vs. Montana. Chicago winning a playoff game, despite having a terrible team. Final playoff game at the Dawg Pound. Steve Young's first Super Bowl ring as starting quarterback. Stoyanavich pushing a kick wide left in the playoffs against San Diego. Chargers make their first visit to the Superbowl. Butkus and Sayers having their numbers retired in a monsoon on Halloween Night at Soldier Field.
@@herschie91 NBC did some great games that season, especially the duel between Marino and Moon in Week 4, The Raiders/Dolphins Game three weeks after and the Browns beating Dallas during Week 15.
0:23 Marv Albert: "It is an unseasonably mild 38 degree day in Buffalo; there's a chance of rain and snow later on, as we get ready for the New England Patriots and the Buffalo Bills. The Bills, to the discomfort of some, have made it to four straight Super Bowls." (From the 1993 AFC Championship Game) Jim Kelly: "We're back!" Thurman Thomas: "Yes we are!" Kelly: "We're back!" Albert: "However this time they may not be back; their reign as AFC champions in serious jeopardy. While this man, Bill Parcells, who was responsible for the Bills' first Super Bowl defeat, has his upstart Patriots on a five game win streak and in control of their playoff destiny. A loss today by either the Patriots or the Bills could virtually eliminate them from playoff contention." That game between the Bills and Patriots in Week 16 was one of the few instances I can think of where the entire theme was used.
Living in AZ we would get the Chargers games. 1994 was like watching a big play reel. Couple it with this theme....man it was something. The new theme in 95 really did suck some of the fun out of the NBC games.
This theme was great. Their new theme in 1995 made games a lot of fun as well. Both great themes. I remember being slight disappointed when this theme went away and heard the new Edelman theme watching Broncos and Cowboys in 1995, but that theme grew on me and I loved it. Love this one as well.
The 75th Anniversary of the 1994 season...I love this theme to death...Reminds me of Marino, Montana, Elway, Boomer, Bledsoe, Shannon Sharpe and others
this theme made me want to watch afc football as a young'un [i've been an nfc fan for a very long time]. i also hum it from time-to-time without a reason, even more strange because it wasn't used on nbc for very long. thanks!
Looks like they advertised a misleading image of a 49ers and Falcons game. Only AFC vs. AFC or NFC vs. AFC games were allowed on NBC. NBC never did NFC vs. NFC. That's misleading. But I love this theme. I'm using for one of my fantasy football themes this year!
The final score from New York. The jets 16 the colts 6. Stay tuned on nbc for more nfl action. Now for Todd Christensen, Drew Goodman saying so long from New York. This has been a presentation of the nfl on nbc.
Super Bowl XXVIII, the first game this theme was used in, the fourth consecutive Super Bowl loss for the Buffalo Bills and the second consecutive loss to Jimmy Johnson and the Dallas Cowboys.
The problem with today's NBC coverage is the fact that they brand it as an event. They have a fantastic theme song but they don't use it enough, because they use the stupid singing intro. They should create a graphic open based around their actual theme song and call it like "NFL on NBC Sunday Night Showcase" instead of the very generic "Sunday Night Football"
I lovelovelovelovelovelovelovelove this theme. But NBC killed it with hoky video they paired it with. They probably replaced it because some idiot conducted a focus group of people that hated the intro, and they held it against the song instead of the graphics.
Eric Maltbia yes in fact you want hear some irony. Last time the Browns won a playoff game they beat the Patriots. The coach of the Browns at the time a guy named Bill Belichick
Ah the days when the Buffalo Bills were one of the best, if not the best team in the AFC. Today, they're a joke. As a Rochesterian who's a Bills fan, this saddens me.
@jaboo82681 They used this theme for their preseason telecasts in 1995? Was the 1995-97 one first used in Week 1 of the 1995 regular season for the pregame show. And in the preseason of 1995, did they have the same graphics they used in the 1994 season, or were they using the 1995 season graphics with the 1994 theme.
Graphics didn’t change much between 1994 and 95, mainly the font slightly changed. NBC remixed that graphics set in 1997 to make them more “hip” but I don’t think they did a good job as the graphics looked tackier than the 93-96 version. In 98 after losing the NFL they overhauled the graphics
@@TheLocalLt Do you know if NBC used the 1994 theme or the 95-97 Edelman theme for preseason telecasts in 1995? Obviously the 95-97 Edelman theme debuted for regular season games Week 1 1995, but did they use that or different theme for preseason games in 1995?
@@Wolverine607 not sure, I’m just saying the difference between the graphics in 94 and 95 was minute, whereas it had a completely new theme song. I would guess the 94 theme was used in the preseason, that was the usual practice until recently, I remember CBS still using its 2005 graphics in the 2006 preseason.
They scrapped their themes after the 1992 and 1993 seasons as well for game intro music. They only kept Gridiron dreams for NFL Live pregame and Halftime shows for 1992 that they used for both game intros and halftime shows 1989 to 1991. I guess Dick Ebersol could not make up his mind on a theme when he took over NBC Sports until they settled on the Randy Edelman 1995-1997 theme which only lasted to 1997 because NBC lost their NFL contract after 1997 or otherwise the Randy Edelman theme used from 1995-1997 probably would have lasted a lot longer.
Wolverine607 the Edelman theme was different than this one or the early 90s ones in that it was specifically written for NBC and had the NBC chimes in it
@@TheLocalLt Was the Edelman theme really specific for NBC, or just a coincidence it had the chimes in it. They commissioned Edelman for an NFL theme and maybe Edelman just put the chimes in it. @@Wolverine607 I believe they commissioned him to do an nfl theme and he put the nbc chimes in it as the main motif knowing that he was writing it for nbc. My point was that’s a big reason why I think it was the one to finally stick, along with its other attractive qualities
It’s a crime that this only lasted one season.
Amazing how a theme that was only used for 1 season can stand out as one of the ALL TIME best!
this one will always hit me the hardest. Raiders final season in LA. All the hype heading into the season to burn in the end and Marcus Allen closing the chapter in LA.
This theme song always pumped me up to watch a game. It's the only season where I watched the most games ever in one season.

NBC should use this for their playoff coverage today to keep it different from SNF.... Fantastic theme
Brings back memories of the Lions beating the Bills on Thanksgiving 1994. First of many lions games i ever watched.
Even though NBC aired the AFC games, when I hear this theme The 49ers and the way they dominated the league that year always comes to mind.
It's ok, the 49ers we're on NBC up to twice a year against AFC teams at Candlestick Park.
The only time the 49ers played on NBC in 1994 was a Saturday afternoon game against the Denver Broncos in a late-season December matchup
Cozzfeet that is true, the other AFC team they played at Candlestick was a MNF game against the Raiders
This song reminds me of the Bills and Dolphins running the AFC, the Thanksgiving snow game with Leon Lett, and the Marino fake spike vs Pete Carroll
@@TheLocalLt the thanksgiving snow game was in 1993, which had a different theme.

Great memories with this theme. Reminds me of a Dolphins-Vikings shoot out from earlier that season.
I remember that game. Minnesota was up 14 points late and Miami kicks a field goal. That had the bookies all over the country shaking their heads.
Why oh why did this theme last only one year?
Wish NBC would have waited until Super Bowl XXX to change the theme. This would have been great for 1995 until that point.
