It's a 80's invention going back to 1983 from USA of course. And camera directing is wacky here, was much better in US gladiators. However, love Pyramid and Australian Eliminator version
man this takes me back to my childhood. saturday nights instead of going out i would stay home and tape gladiators! i think i started watching around the semis so i never really got to see these early heats until now!!
Same here this brings back so many wonderful memories of staying home on a Saturday night and watching gladiators absolutely loved it and I wish they would bring it back I really miss this show
I LIVED FOR GLADIATORS from the age of 13! I just wanted to get through Saturdays to watch this. I cannot believe it’s on here. Never thought I’d see it again.
Finally I can watch this again. Thank you so much, I don't know why Channel 7 doesn't put this on 7 plus. I hope I can find the American and UK versions as I have never seen those.
There was a couple of times where there was an International Gladiators competition held on the set in Birmingham, UK. For the second one, Kimberley Joseph made the trip over to co-present it with British host Ulrika Jonsson and American host Mike Adamle.
Hammer (Mark McGaw) was an international rugby league player. No wonder he smashed everyone on the pyramid. He was a better athlete than pretty much all the other gladiators, who were mostly bodybuilders.
There is nobody there in the stands during both the eliminators. Also at 12:10 as well as at other times you can see someone in the stands holding a sign that says Annie the Amazon, but there are no contestants named Annie on this episode.
Why was the male host replaced in s2 by Mike Hammond? Kimberly Joseph was really good on this show, she was known in the UK as well from the shows she acted.
44:47 I know the rules of the Australian Gladiators are sometimes different from the UK Series but surely Howard was cheating putting his hands on the Balance Beam like that to steady himself! He really should've been sent back to do it again like Clinton!
And now Hammer's the referee for the 2024 reboot. We've also had the sons of Hammer and Delta in said reboot (they faced off in the heats with Hammer's son losing to Delta's son - who has just qualified for the semi finals in the most recent episode).
How different did episode 1 feel compared to later in the season (and seasons 2/3), when they adopted the music from the UK version. And how slow was the travelator - the contenders practically walked up it!
I know right? I've been watching the gladiators series in the U.S., the U.K., and this is the first time I got to the Australian version. They're just using the music that American Gladiators used in seasons five and six (and probably seven) right before their events started. I'm not sure if those seasons of American Gladiators were broadcasted in Australia, but as someone who's watching this all nearly thirty years later, I actually noticed.
@@peterwilliamskelhorn6675 They all have their strengths and weaknesses. American Gladiators focused more on the competition than personalities and never had less than six events and the eliminator after season 1A. It also had less spectacle since it was filmed before a typical studio audience rather than in a stadium and the events had no music. The Australian show had less events but as much spectacle as the British version. Of course, I watched these old episodes because I wanted to know what gladiators did the best at preventing the contenders from scoring in all 17 combined full seasons of these three versions of Gladiators.
I love the game title sequences.... Duh duh duh duh duh duh HIT AND RUN! Duh duh duh duh duh duh PYRAMID! Duh duh duh duh duh duh POWERBALL! Chills everytime
Does anyone know what the audience sang/ chanted when the challengers were knocked off the runway? 34:53 I have been trying to work it out as a kid when I watched it and now I’m seeing it again I still can’t catch it😅
This feels very unpolished. The music during the events was the music American Gladiators used from season five on before the events started. As an American, it gives me the impression that the events never really start. In addition, there are only four events before the eliminator. It makes the other events seem pointless since there isn't enough time to gain a big lead beforehand. The pincers held by the second and fourth gladiators in the gauntlet feel overpowered since the idea of Gauntlet is that the gladiators are supposed to block the contenders (or challengers), not hold them. Finally, it felt like the female contenders/challengers didn't practice at all for the eliminator. That said, this intro is even cheesier and more awesome than the International Gladiators intro! That says a lot.
All Gina had to do with go up the Pyramid and she went sideways. Best tactic is to get tackled as much as possible and hope that you get up quicker than the Gladiator.
Interesting that the Eliminator theme for the Australian version was the intermission music that played before events on Season 5 of American Gladiators ruclips.net/video/A3pLFb2v8Eg/видео.html
I love pyramid, was missing in US version, I'm from US. the eliminator here is better cause much harder than US original. But way to go chief camera director always panning away when it gets interesting in eliminator. Why would someone switch camera when the contender is right on the rolling bag thing? Really bad directing. That's been a big issue since 1990s this wacky psycho jumpy directing. They're on drugs the guys in the studio
Originally, American Gladiators had 6 total events (5 regular and the Eliminator), which soon changed to 7 total events (6 regular and the Eliminator) for the rest of its run (except for Seasons 4 & 5, which had 8 total events). As for UK Gladiators, they started with 6 events and the Eliminator for the first two series before having the more familiar five in subsequent series. As to why Aussie Gladiators had only 4 events before the Eliminator, it might be due to timing purposes, but it also fits in with Australian Rules Football, which has four quarters per game.
I think ad breaks would be the main reason behind having only 4 games plus an Eliminator in our version. In the UK version, they only had an ad break after the second and fifth games, whereas in the Australian version they had an ad break after every game.
@@DamienDrake US one spent less time chatting to the contestants and Gladiators than the Aussie or UK one. In Series 4 and 5 they would rifle through the events.
Thanks to the uploader for this… honestly never thought I’d be able to see this again. So much nostalgia for Gladiators.

Proof of how awesome the 90s were! TV doesn't get much better
The first 3 Series of Australian Gladiators were indeed the best
The 2024 Series doesn't even beat the 2008 revival to be perfectly honest

I'm really proud of the gladiators for being such good sports!!

I still have my Cheeta, Hammer, Condor, and Delta trading cards. Treasured possessions.
I had glow-in-the-dark stickers on my wall. I wish I still had them.
Who’s here because of the revival announcement?
I love the revival personally, even if it’s not the most popular out there. I can’t wait for series 2!

Random fun fact: The referee in this series is now a member of parliament
This show was such a big deal at the time
John Alexander has now retired from politics. He retired last month.
