- There are now two American Bulldog types named after the breeders: the Johnson, also known as the classic or bully type, and the Scott, which is sometimes called the standard or performance type. In 1970, the National Kennel Club officially recognized and registered the American Bulldog breed. Blending the two types get you many variations of the "Hybrid American Bulldog".

I had one that lasted 16 years and my second is a rescue. He is currently not doing too well but he is my dad’s best friend. They look out for each other. Love the breed.

I have owned Johnson American bulldogs for 15 years now, I will not have any other breed now love everything about them, if I have a rest in the middle of the day my dogs are happy to sit with me, or if I go bush walking they're there I feel safe and they are great with my grandchildren ❤❤

Bought one twenty years ago and sadly gave it to one of my friends because the place I lived wasn’t haven’t it and it was the worse mistake of my life.
They are not that great of swimmers n they over heat
We have Lola, she is a Scot, taller, leaner, white, and fawn. My precious puppy. A Hurricane Harvey rescue. She was labeled as a Boxer, no way, but not a blunt face. She is now 6. Best puppy dog I could ever imagine; loyal, gentle, and very protective. Her younger brother is a Dogo Argentino, also a rescue, he is very gentle as well.

American bulldogs are mighty fine dogs, some of the best working bulldogs out there alongside of American pit bulldogs. Not only are they very powerful, they're athletic, driven, and loyal. And for folks that like dogs such as the pit bulldog but want dogs that are more geared towards being protective against humans, American bulldogs are a great choice. They are like the right amount of bulldog and the right amount of mastiff. I remember looking up some information on them years back, and reading what Diane Jessup wrote. She had said:
"A breed that, until the late 1980s, was virtually unheard of, this breed was made from existing lines of large pit bulldogs during the eighties which survived and developed along unique lines in secluded Southern states. Some lines of American bulldog are pit bulls crossed with any of a half dozen large mastiff-type breeds."
I have a American Bulldog x Perro De Presa Canario mix. The most impressive dog i have ever seen in my life. His speed is probably near record breaking. He has not bee clocked but when he runs it is shocking to see, He is so fast he is in the air more than he is touching the ground. He is over 100lb and Super Lean, Always hungry.
My boy tank has broken into my chicken coup and he did not try to kill a single chicken, he actually got stuck inside the coup and wanted out lol. A Pitbull would of killed every chicken in the coup.
@@Oblivionsurveyor He does sound like an impressive dog. Yes, I reckon a pit bulldog would be much more likely to kill the chickens. It is not always since I have seen some playing with chickens and in the chicken pin on videos, but I would be lying if I did not expect a chicken coop to be turned into a chicken graveyard if a pit bull got in there. That's another thing I am sure most will appreciate about the American bulldog. They still have prey drive, but there is also less of a want to go after everything on four legs, especially if they are not in work/hunt mode. It is easier to introduce them and familiarize them with other critters.

@@Swell_Character Johnson openly admitted to having English bulldog and bullmastiff when he created the his version. I don't remember him talking about white English etc that much tho in interviews or pitbulls. I take it you mean pitbull when you say pit bulldog?

My number one and two favorite dog breeds are American Bulldogs and Rottweiler. The two best Guard dogs anyone can own

Have been considering an American Bulldog as our next family member since my Boy Apollo passed. He was an American Bulldog/Cane Corso mix who looked more American Bulldog than anything just in reverse brindle. I found him while looking for an American Bulldog 12 years ago. Love these dogs.

I have a Scott-Johnson Hybrid. She’s 11 years old now and she is the best of both lines. She leans more towards Scott in her looks, but she has the temperament of both. She loves having something to do, loves running, and also loves hanging out and cuddling. She was my ESA for 9 years.
Love this guy's vision. Please keep the AB a fit working dog, both types. Too many breeds are turning into invalids just because people love the look of a caricature. But DO NOT lower the back!

I had an American Bull Box and he was the best dog I've ever owned. I had him for 12 amazing years before my yak Bull took him out 😢
I had a Scott/Johnson Hybrid in the 90's. Loved her. She was athletic and tall with a wide chest and block head. best of both worlds

First statement described my Am Bulldog (passed 1 year ago) perfectly! Currently have an Old English Bulldog. Same looks, but a lot less intense.

I got goosebumps when you said Staffordshire bull terrier. I had my Stanley from 2007 until summer 2023. Now I have a 1 year old alapaha bulldog
My baby is a Scott/Johnson. Dads a Johnson. Moms a Scott. Looks more like a Scott than anything. Her name was Luna but weve renamed her Ducky. Shes amazing. Might be spicy when shes big and rivals our 5yo Dobie, Karma in size and power
from Ireland here and saw my first and only johnson bulldogs back in 2009.they were male and female.they were Identical to the dog being petted at 11.36. far superior to anything i have seen anywhere until now.I asked the owner if he was gna breed them ,he ddnt really know if he was. I dnt think he knew how good his dogs were. now all this time later its saddening to think he may not have kept that blood in the gene pool. I would pay thousands for a dog like the one in this video .truly a beautiful specimen of a true american bulldog original phenotype. maybe one day huh...so envious

Need more breeders like this. Focusing on the best of both worlds. Clean, healthy dogs that can perform, that are also a sight to look at. Great temperament that ain’t gunna be some type of psycho that’s dangerous and unpredictable. Looking for 2 dogs for my new house with my big yard, and the bulldog is definitely on my radar now!

Those are some very beautiful American Bulldogs. Reminds me so much of my Buddy & Maggie, my 2 A.B.'s that I had way back in the day. I miss them so much. The "well bred" American Bulldog is one of the best, if not THE best, breed you could ever hope to have if you're looking for a great family dog, naturally protective guard dog (who's looks & bark alone would be enough to stop 99% of all intruders), and just all around, all purpose, working dog and best friend with true loyalty to his or her family/pack. That being said, you must train & socialize these dogs from a young age and you must be the ALPHA, a.k.a.; the "leader" of the pack, and the dogs must know and respect you as the alpha/leader.

I need many american bulldogs over 22 years. I learned from John d. Johnson and Rayburn Stover, and had every bloodline made. The hybrids, done correctly, is by far the best type

😢 I want one but my wife is allergic to animals,,my neighbor had a Johnson AB he had it trained, BOZO was 15 months 130 pounds,the owner had him out on a foggy day and his AB took off running faster than the speed of light into the woods, the owner ran after him to see that BOZO sensed danger and attacked and killed a adult Coyote waiting to attack the owner..love these Dogs

I personally don't see how it's structurely healthy for that bow legged one. If it's breathing ain't constricted at all by the short muscle it's great.

I just bought a 12 week old Scott type bulldog girl puppy and I’m loving it so far!! I guess when she gets older she’ll grow out of it but right now she’s having to many accidents on the carpet pee peeing!! 😂
We are on our third AB. they have all been rescue's. This young man is dead on with their personalities. We did have one that was called "painter type" she was a handful but was a fantastic member of our family, our latest is a hybrid and he is great. Great information as usual.
they are not dangerous they are just loyal protecting their owner i really love to own 1 someday 1 of my favorite breed since i was a kid..

American Bulldogs are great Dogs. Perfect size. My Male Samson was 120 lbs as well.
A Rescue. Very Sweet considering he was a Fighting Dog from Jersey. They were going to put him down Humane Society. I had Johnson type which I love.
My Mom had Female Standard. 105 lbs. Both great dogs.
I currently got into Presa .
My Female is 140 lbs. More Work but Dailed in there great as well.

So here's my question to these breeders. I use to have 8 AmBull Johnson type. Love the breed and my dogs were amazing. Great dogs. Just sad they have a short life span. 10 yrs was the max for mine. Healthy dogs too. They are prone to hip dysplasia. Hate that for them.

I'm with my 2nd Staffordshire Bull Terrier and he's certainly high strung. I like larger dogs like Darren, but the lower lifespan and ideal large estate goes against what's ideal for me. I'll probably be a Staff guy the rest of my life however I like what he's doing with the American Bulldog.

That's what bulldogs should look like ! I've seen some decent ones bred with APBT in them just for the more athletic & "correct" structure. Slightly longer snouts but, that seems to help their bite & grip. Did see the extreme size differences though. Some were smaller, 60ish lb & looked like a big pitbull. While some were a good 90-100lb with the bulldog features but just muscle! Solid, lean dogs.

Honestly once the American Bulldog gets into the AKC all the XL bully breeders will hop on American Bulldogs.

J.D Johnson wanted to go more for looks and a dog that would guard your property with our being to driven and happy to lay around. Allan Scott on the other hand wanted to keep his lines healthier workers that were bred and ready for purpose. There a new breed
Johnson is for show... Scott and Painter are for performance... Game bred pitbull was bred into the Scott line to make them better

@byspartanlaw . You can watch the documentary with the creator of the Scott dogs on RUclips. He said he mixed game bred pitbull into his dogs to improve the breeds ability, and stamina of his American bulldogs...

From what he’s say the you just stick to the standard. The standard has pretty much been perfect for the task. Once it gets bully your loosing function. Form must follow behind function. Scissor bites beat under all day if you want the dog to bite stuff. Love the breed though. Long live the standard
