Tony Khan showed up to the TV rights negotiations with the Cagemarch ratings instead of the verifiable viewership data, and they noped out of the room.
He probably brought Molly Meltzer Magoo who had every Cagematch rating from the last 5 years with him. After hearing Meltzer ramble, any sane person would just say no.
Im convinced the reason Warner Discover and TBS/TNT keep telling Tony his low rated unwatchable show is great and that they are happy with the ratings is so they can lowball him next go around and be like well while we are satisfied with your show and ratings, you are lower than before so now we will pay less. I dont see how or why they would possibly pay more for this when its exponentially worse than it was the first time around.
Two possible reason. Scripted content is more expensive after the strikes and less of it is being produced. So AEW may still be attractove to the networks for supplying new content with a devoted audience. The other reason why they may get a same dollar renewal or a sligjt increase is that on the past several years there has been a massive erosion in the value of the dollar. So Tony may end up getting a better deal than people expect but it actually was a paycut when factoring in inflation. The other possibility is MAX takes in the PPVs into streaming exclusives. Doing to AEW what Peacock and soon Netflix did with WWE.

What gets me about AEW is that there is no continuity in story lines. It's just a bunch of random matches thrown together. You'd lose a buck. They are willing to pay around 75m per year buy Tony wants 250m. But if he doesn't finally nut up and accept his company isn't worth what he thinks it is it will be less than 75m.
@@stingersplash I doubt he'd even get 75. I actually agree with dude man though, eventually Tony will be the one paying the/a network to keep his product on TV.
It's the CM Punk effect... The carriers left when they realized that there is no bankable star power left.
that company has a few ppl who could be big stars by now if the idiot knew how to book and consistently push ppl
What do you mean no star? They just signed Okada, Ospreay and Mone Those are stars. Right?
Great point! Punk was their only real draw as opposed to self proclaimed “star”
exactly, bro got the roster split and a new show added just for him lol
@@hellchrome01not Mone.
Tony Khan showed up to the TV rights negotiations with the Cagemarch ratings instead of the verifiable viewership data, and they noped out of the room.
I'd not be surprised if that was true.
Tv executives are chess players. This is a perfect example.
I pray tony khan never leaves the wrestling business so I don't lose his Heckle drawing 😂
There's gonna be a point Daddy Khan says enough is enough. He's got enough problems screwing the Jaguars and his Soccer team over. Enough people are suffering.
and so that Jim doesn't lose views.. this podcast would probably become the AEW of podcasts if Tony left the wrestling business, the views would plummet.. AEW is the heartbeat of this podcast
@@DynastyIcon The podcast did fine before AEW. Jim does this for extra money, he doesn't need to do a podcast.
@@DynastyIcon yeah I been listening to his podcast say before AEW was a thing. Just his stories alone from back in the day would continue to bring in viewers.
It’s amazing watching AEW marks breaking down because they can’t accept that their Indy darlings are not as popular like they thought it would be.
You speak the truth
Yeah, I was excited when AEW first debuted and was excited for guys like Kenny Omega and some of the newer talent I hadn't really heard of or seen from the Indies... I wanted to see what the fuss was all about. I went in with a positive, excited attitude, eager to see what they had to offer. I WANTED to like it.
And I was disappointed, and the disappointment grew, and it got stupider and more dipshitty and finally I just gave up and said "fuck this shit" and stopped watching.
@@Rodshark75exactly how I was! I defended it at 1st but you can only do it for so long until you realize how stupid things got fast. I stopped watching after Matt Hardy transported down the arena back in 2020😂
@@Rodshark75Same story here. I really wanted to liked AEW but too much overhyped Indy talent also didn't liked the style of wrestling and didn't helped to see the worst match ever "the baby oil match" Omega and nakasawa vs pockets and the other guy from the best friends
It started a while ago
The new line is that they’re just a little company & 90% of the toxicity is from the big bad fed fans & they don’t know why 😂😂
They will definitely lose Australia as soon as possible. The broadcaster already airs it at random times and cuts out segments to get the show back down to two hours. The network clearly stopped caring about AEW at least six months ago.
I didn't even know they broadcast here
I keep forgetting we can even get ESPN down here - "Sports Package 3 on Foxtel" or whatever. Like anybody's watching any of that
I think it's on ESPN down here.
CM Punk effect
Hopefully ITV drop them as well for dreadful ratings and putting the show in dodgy timeslots every week, and replaces them with more La Liga matches from Premier Sports.
*Belgian Pro League classics from the 90’s
@mahakalavanilla6263 *or Serie A football from TNT Sports
Just like back in the 1990s. Itv had a 1hr wcw show which was bounced around the schedule. Usually between 1-4am. In fairness that was when itv had one channel. Aew is probably buried on itv2. No one gives a shit.
La Liga is waaaaay more entertaining than AEW
AEW does worse than fishing shows on ITV
WWE’s got legit stars, AEW got Unka Dave’s stars

Waiting for AEW fans to somehow spin this to bring Punk’s fault
"This wouldn't happen if Punk didn't attack Jack Perry, that led him to be fired."
How many more times can you blame the guy? He seen through it all. He let us all know which we knew. It's time for the babies to take their medicine.
@@antonlifer4449Yeah but he collectively r*ped the company and all 200 odd talent they have over there.
I am not even the originator of that btw. Someone did actually write a piece suggesting he had stolen the innocence and essence of AEW
Translation: I liked my flips and flops. We don't need these money-drawing talents coming over and reading us the rulebook, BORING! More Best Friends pls since I don't have any.
The “stole the innocence” of AEW has to be one of the most pathetic sentences ever written.
@@ButWhatIfItIs saying Punk raped the company is an insult to rape victims everywhere. Ironically enough that’s the only way the fans would ever get to have sex, but even then no one wants them
Strange because anytime you mention the ratings, the first thing in aew Mark will tell you is that Tony was specifically told by the networks that they are "happy" and THAT'S ALL THAT MATTERS!!!!
I like to now bring up the actual Tony Khan quote. "Ratings are the #1 source of fan feedback." How can they argue with there own lord and savior the billionaires son.
@@Saddler1944 he means the cagematch ratings.
They can’t fathom that the ratings number of 500k is tnt/tbs expected number for ANY new show they signed..
It’s the absolute minimum they expect
& ramoage & collision don’t even get that
Also it was the friend hire who said that but they also expected growth of that number & after 5 years it continues to contract
They also bring up the streaming numbers of 14 million that wb mentioned in their yearly review.. but that was for 6 months.. if you break it down to weekly that’s the 500k minimum expected also

DAZN is obviously just hating dropping the hottest wrestling company that has changed the world for everyone!

Im sure this person is joking but satire/parody is harder these days because so many people believe silly things that you genuinely can't tell who's a true believer and who is mocking true believers any more, lol.

Stopped watching after seeing 2022's revolution Adam Cole vs Hangman. Never looked back for nothing more than CM Punk and MJF highlights.
The professional Bull Riders and the bulls themselves are more over than the entire Aew roster.
This is what happens when the dork owner is more concerned with taking shots at other companies than managing his own.
"How many people are going to go see a guy ride a bull?"

But Forbes says AEW is worth $2Billion. And Meltzer thinks they are worth $2.5 billion for TV rights.
5 star matches in front of a small crowd. They should have stuck to one show with a smaller roster with four ppvs a year. Instead they got 100 belts a dozen shows and ROH way too much too soon.

AEW is a “safe” parallel to what the UWF was. Herb is just a more extreme version of Tony and as time progresses we’ll see the wrestlers of AEW talk about that promotion just like UWF people did on the dark side documentary.
Why was there so many promotions called the UWF? There was the UWF after Mid South, the 3 or 4 iterations of UWF in Japan (or was it UWFI? so confused) and the Herb Abrams' UWF. What the fuck?

We’ve been warning AEW for years that this was going to happen, but did they listen?
Tony became the very thing he swore not to become and that is becoming Vince mcmahon
Vince, at his worst, was 1000x better than Tiny Con at his best.
Vince for better or worse, ran a successful promotion for decades. Tony Khan has not. His promotion hasn't even made 1 decade.
Don't you dare disrespect the name of Vincent Kennedy McMahon by putting it next to a piece of trash like Khan.

WWE has now re-signed Finn Balor, Drew McIntyre and Seth Rollins.
They're not letting what happened with Cesaro happen again.
Cesaro killed his career. There's no coming back from aew lol
Or Finn Balor, Drew McIntyre, & Seth Rollins weren't ready to retire.
Finn, Drew and Seth are in positions to make money and legacy. They’re also grown adult men. They aren’t jobbing to Manlet-children standing 5’anthill weighing 100 + sponge, with pubes glued to their faces cosplaying as wrestling EVPs.
Finn doesn’t want those two on his coat-tails again like with Bullet Club in New Japan
Drew would rather make $ with Punk
Seth is in a good spot as a Triple H guy, why would he go stooge for two woefully undersized anti draws??
Cesaro should not have gone to that mark company.
Sure, he wasn't pushed in WWE when he was better than KO or Sami but at least he was always on tv in front of millions of people.
But no, he is a mark for himself and wanted to prove that he was a tough top guy, now he is a nobody.
Heck his name in AEW is what, Czro or something, so hard to remember. Why the fuck would you make your ring name something so stupid?
I appreciate Vince renaming wrestlers. It increases their awareness and name value. No one will take seriously Roman if he was named Samoi or any any bullshit.
Similarly, all these Tonga brothers will never get over in main roaster because their name sucks. Bloodline is dogshit now without Roman
150K/year ..... to just drop it suggests they were just getting horrible stream hours out of it.
What gets me about AEW is that there is no continuity in story lines. It's just a bunch of random matches thrown together. No long running feuds, it's just some guys nobody has heard of randomly wrestling each other without any run up or promo. They should know better - they have JR and he was the top booker for WWE for years. Why don't they listen to JR? Surely he is trying to coach them to go in the right direction.
That’s the thing the AEW locker room thinks like Tony they can do no wrong once they receive an ounce of criticism they cry to Uncle Dave on the internet and that person giving advice like J R trying to help is called a cancer or is treated as the worst human in the world. The fans, Tony, the locker room all of AEW is too soft for any criticism or being told try doing different things.
JR wasn't a booker in WWE, he was head of talent relations.
@@robertm.3520 I'm pretty sure JR booked their house shows for a good while too, actually.
