- Can Software Block Ransomware
Crypto Ransomware is rampant today and once you get hit by this nasty ransomware all your data will be encrypted and to get your data back you will be asked to pay a ransom fee to decrypt your data.
Now there is a number of different software available to protect and block ransomware, so we are going to be testing Winantiransom Plus by Ruiware Winpatrol and put it to the test. They claim it protects you against some of the nastiest crypto ransoms out there. For example: CTB Locker, Teslacrypt, Crypto Locker and more.
Marketing for preventing ransomware is huge, websites claim a lot of stats and figures with impressive titles like The Most Powerful AntiRansom PLUS product on the market and Declare War on Ransomware and don’t let ransomware steal your memories. This of cause is just marketing to help sell a product.
Its big business and people may think they are safe from ransomware and I want to point out that the best way to stay safe is backing up data regularly and keeping a system image backup and storing it away from the computer you are using, this could be an external hard drive.
So if you get infected by ransomware you can just wipe the machine and reinstall your system image and data. Yes it takes time and is a bit of inconvenience to you, but your data is safe.
Now there is nothing wrong in using software to try and protect your system, but what if it lets a ransomware on your system? You will lose everything and software makers will say they never claim it blocks all ransomware. Why take the risk?
Now this video is not to be little Winantiransom Plus it’s quite the opposite, I would love to see this software block all ransomware and my test proved it did not block 2 out of 2 of the tests I run.
I just hope people see this video before they rely on any software protecting their precious data from ransomware.
I am not affiliated with Ruiware and try to be impartial when it comes to my reviews. These reviews are for education only and does NOT reflect on the company whats so ever.

You are the man, Brian. You are amazing with setting up and testing bad software.
The only comment I have against that software, is the fact they didn't supply you with a free version making you buy it.
IMO, that is a symptom that their software doesn't really work.
I want people to see the program for what it is whether it is good or bad. It should up bad on this occasion, maybe that's there karma for making pay for it.
Great video Brian. I use Sandboxie to protect me between reboots, and Shadow Defender so every time I reboot my PC my C drive is squeaky clean. I have all my important personal files on a separate internal HDD, but back them up to an external HDD as well. IMO Sandboxie & Shadow Defender is more than enough, but I backup to an external HDD just in case, because as you say nothing is truly bullet proof.
Well if the data is not on that machine, it would be safe so I guess that is 100% bullet proof.
I use Norton as my active service and Malwarebytes as my weekly secondary scanner. So far so good, but the best defense is to just be cautious with your web activity. That is why I like Norton as my active service because it actually shows which websites are trusted and which are not when you search for something. Very helpful in that respect.
What software did you use to rollback to healthy clean state, that would allow you to bootup as though the attack never happened. I heard when you mentioned having an external drive. For the purpose of an emergency. However regarding a system image backup. You never specified or recommended any particular image backup software. I've used Acronis a few years ago. And it really helped me before. Not sure how reliable it is now with these more advanced threats. That could prevent Acronis from performing as it should. Thus forcing me to reformat which I absolutely hate having to resort to that...
Sad to see the bad guys have the edge! Great video.
It looks like there is still some work to do with this software until it blocks ransomware.
Sound advice Brian. No one program stops everything. Common sense says backup.
Gulp ..... glad I'm a member of your Forum..
Yeah it did not do very well.
Outstanding example of instantly Dated Software, thanks for the demonstration Brian. :) I question if it would work to prevent a Crypto virus at all. Thanks for your work!
Thank you & keep up the great job!
Cheers Henry
britec u make good vids to keep us informed good job keep going
Thanks
I dont know if it's me or not, but the WinAntiRansom Icon at first looked like the goat simulator icon to me.
I know this is unrelated to this video but I need to ask something. I was wondering whether you know why my PC might be emitting a high pitch noise? It doesn't happen when on and it stops if i unplug the PC and then plug it back in straight away. Thanks
Are you using something like Rollback Rx to reset your computer?
Looks like running a good AV along with Comodo firewall would have done the job.
The auto sandbox should catch it.
Tony
Thanks for another good video! Have a great day!
You're welcome.
Thank you, this video was helpful! Keep up the good vids :D.
Cheers.
It appers malware bytes is better then that other pice of software looking at your video.
It appears that your grammar has reached an insufficient level and has remained at the same state since 2nd grade

Hey Britech, I have a older PC that has a 80GB SATA and a 320GB IDE, The SATA is my C: but I can't get the IDE drive to be usable, it is detected under computer management and it is marked as Primary Partition, how do I make it usable (appear in Windows Explorer)? thx
great video brian thanks for the info mate
You're welcome.
Thanks Brian :-D
Hmm i think the crypto locker may have been using whitelisted parts of the system to gain control.
Or that program needs to visit the optician to get some glasses lol.
.
My firewall is set to super "Tight as an ants arse." mode LOL :).
Mind you, i dont expect it to stop the crypto lockers.
I was surprised it did not even prompt me and let it just drop on the system, very strange...I think software needs more work
You need to get the refund bro. There is nothing right or wrong with what you are doing. The software should work as advertised.
Hi Brian, at the start of your video you stated you reached out to us for a license for your review. I just searched our historical emails and we never received such a request. If we had, we would have given you that license as is customary for testing purposes.
I would like to know more about your test, we have had plenty of independent reviews of our product blocking both of those two Ransomware in the past and we ran some successful internal tests using the same version of WinAntiRansom as in the video.
I sent you a email with details, we can talk there.
Good video Brian. I know you dont slam the company, so Ill do it for you. They are trash, and you should demand a refund.
lol Yeah it did not work they way it was supposed to.
Indeed. Perhaps instead of using something that is supposed to block ransomeware, use something else. We use RollBack Home Edition (www.horizondatasys.com/en/products_and_solutions.aspx?ProductId=40#Features) and it actually works as intended.
Looking at WinPatrols site, they have a Business class one too. No thank you! But they claim 2 million happy customers. Somehow I doubt that.
A pop up came up saying that I have to pay but all I did was delete my browser history and reset it and I haven't had trouble
You do a great Job.... Keep it up
Hi Britec, I'm very surprised it always did well from the videos I watched. I'm sure you did everything right it could be these malware hackers have finally caught up and figure out to get around it. Can you test Comodo sandbox where ransomware gets virtualized and becomes ineffective and neutralized. Thanks for this review it was eye opening.
It will always come down to what variant they are using, they could be using the old variant ransomware. What I don't understand is why they make such bold claims that it blocks ransomware and it clearly don't. I try and do a review on Comodo sandbox.
I agree they could get sued for making such claims .
Its bad when they are playing with peoples data and claiming it protects you against them particular ransomware that I tested in this video and as you can see it don't.
One software is better than the other , but none of them protect it 100% , the only way is to disconnect the internet , just like if you quit driving forever.
should of used Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, if I was you I would get a refund that software looks crap!
I don't use anti-ransom software, only got software to do a review.
Remember, MBAM or MBAR will block it only if it has signature. A true 0 day malware will run with no problem.
MBAM is meant to be a second opinion scanner and people out there are relying too much on a traditional or just signature based AV products.
I dont get it? can you explain it more to me. I have always thought MBAM can be an antivirus
MBAM is not an antivirus, its antiMALWARE, not antiVIRUS, they're not the same
reallybruh well it acts like an antivirus
I would love to see you do a video about Set Smart Security and Ransomware.
Eset Smart Security. sorry. The stupid android keyboard auto corrected wrongly to Set :(
I see if I can make that video soon.
so any advices for those who got hit ?
there is like a 50+% chance of the ransom not getting blocked
Yeah I would not rely on any software to block ransomware.
i would not even download it is kind of not worth it
Thank you! Very helpful vid!
You're welcome.
Makewarebytes tagged the Tesla fast...!
Malwarebytes Anti Ransom done a good job.
Sorry for the question, but how old are you Brian?
what sort of question is that lol
+Britec09 just wondering xD
+Britec09 its okay if u dont tell me ... xD
Can you review AX64 backup?
hi i have a asus windows RT how can i install google chrome or fire fox brouser. please help
Does the free Malware-bytes "Anti Ransom" program work any better?
I did a test on Malwarebytes Anti Ransom.
Backup, backup, backup...
That's the safest way.
Don't these types of randomware programs use techniques like DLL hijacking? surely software won't catch it, because the code is running from an existing allowed Windows service.
try to test malwarebytes antiransomware to the newest versions pof ransomwares
of*
get a REFUND on WinPatrol WinAntiRansom as it is obviously not fit for the purpose it is sold for
You have a fair point.
and I should have said great video, thanks
Kind of reminds me of a free program I tried a while back called, VoodooShield. I think it uses whitelisting to keep malware and viruses off your PC.
Anti ransomeare aren't %100 bullet proof the best way keep safe of data is always save and put it off on to a secondary computer that is cut off from the Internet.
Yeah that's good advise.
5:02 Moment of silence :)
Neither first nor second. :)
Thank you
You're welcome.
+Britec09 😊
A program with too many holes. and malwarebytes if it doesnt have signature it will allow the ransomware the same with mbar. if you want true 0 day protection even against crytolocker and such you shold use sandbox aplications preferably sandboxie or comodo firewall. i would use comodo firewall its much better and it autosandbox all unknown files that are not vertified by the company strong whitelist. take a look guys its worth a try.
Lol you play played with the settings in the default settings it should block some of them lol
It should of block both them ransomware going by their claims.
voodoo shield is best to block any software
I did a video on voodoo shield and it don't very well.
Have you tested the versions with VoodooAI?

.
AND 69 LIKES LOOOOOOL
ecks dee
Lol this stuff doesn't work, the only working solution is backing shit up.
Yeah I agree. It seems the company show it blocking these two ransomware and as you can see it don't.
first
Second :D
