I wish transport museum volunteers would do more to encourage younger people. I've been part of the Oxford Bus and Morris Motors Museum since 2018 and I recently managed to persuade the man who deals with the insurance to get me insured on the Morris vehicles in the museum, as I'm 22 and the minimum insurance age was 25. Luckily they said that it's possible for me to get insured. However, today when I expressed concern about one of the elderly driver's ability at a recent car rally, the person in question got very offended and said that I couldn't drive (he's never seen me drive before) and that I will never drive the 1955 Morris Oxford (which I love). This came as a shock as he is usually very nice. There are a couple of volunteers in the museum who don't seem to like me because of my age, and after this experience I'm thinking of giving up volunteering if this continues as I don't get treated like an equal. It's a shame as I have always been very keen and enthusiastic about the cars and buses there, but I feel that I might loose that enthusiasm.

You may find this amusing. I was once part owner of a Morris Oxford. It came up for sale in 1970, for the princely sum of £6. For of us clubbed together for £1:50 each. It started and steered very well but had almost non-existent brakes. Also non-existent was tax, MOT, insurance. I never drove it but a friend did, was caught and was discharged from the RAF for being naughty. (We were RAF aircraft apprentices at the time; oops!)

Great video and your enthusiasm is so infectious. One observation, which I challenge you to put to a modern day coach builder: In my humble opinion (and life experience) even the old 3rd class carriages were MUCH more comfortable than anything I've been in on more modern trains. This applies to mainline expresses (and I travelled 1st class from Carlisle to London a few years back), local trains and London Underground - they all have overly hard seats. Anyway, keep up the amazingly good work on these vids!

Also I asked him to film the outside which was perfectly acceptable and the men operating steam locomotives with a far more dangerous and important job seem more than capable and willing every time I have asked them to film for me. If you don’t keep the youngsters interested there won’t be any signal boxes to film!

@@jackx4311 Please get your facts correct prior to insulting my subscribers. Here are the words from their website: ‘A FoSCL volunteer is working in the signal box or on the station when you visit Armathwaite, just ask if it is convenient to have a look round the signal box. There is no charge for admission but, if you would like to make a donation to help cover the cost of maintaining this historic structure, it will be gratefully received as repairing and re-painting the woodwork is a never-ending’
      I suppose you’ll be apologising????
