I have had one for about a year and I really like it. The biggest issue with it not picking up clubhead speed is almost always being too close (tee to unit). You want to be at least 7’ away for your driver at over 100mph. I keep a small tape measure with the unit and it almost never misses a swing. I do use it both at the range and at home in a net, and just use the stickers with a net. I actually am a big fan of all the data going to my app, because I go home and review my range session afterwards. If I am just hitting a few balls I use my phone, if I am planning more work I setup my iPad instead. Also, I can track how my distances change over time because I have all the data saved by session name and date. Last tip I will give is that in the beginning I hit shots and measured the exact landing spot with several clubs. I then adjusted the altitude setting until I got matching data, since that is a big factor in the distance algorithm. You don’t have to do that, I’m just a picky engineer that wants to know exact carry numbers. If you do this keep in mind that distance also changes based on temperature, humidity, etc. Always love your content Matt!
@@cameronknowles6267 With and without. I use it at home with a net, but most of the time on the range without. Works fine in both cases, but personally I can’t bring myself to swing “full out” indoors so I use it more on the range.
Do you still like it 2 years later? Have you found anything better? Does it still work like new? Do you feel like it is accurate? Im all about the details also want all the exact numbers
@@alg7096 yes, still like it. I did buy a Mevo+ this year with the Pro Package, which I really like. I still have the original Mevo and it still works great. My son keeps it in his golf team bag and they use it now.
Read the manual first! Setting the distance the Mevo is behind the ball is important! Mine picks up the club head speed almost every time. Also just put the phone down by your ball and you can just glance at your numbers and you don’t have to walk back to see the data instantly. Ball speed is almost identical to Trackman, club head speed a little inconsistent but carry distance is also pretty accurate. Don’t trust the launch numbers but spin numbers again seems within reason when compared to a Trackman when both set up outside at the same time. I’ve tried most of the affordable portable launch monitors and I think this one is the best. The Swing Caddies (SC200 and 300) gave good swing speed but gave ridiculous carry numbers compared to a Trackman.
Richard Wolf no I haven’t tried that launch monitor or the new Garmin G80. I have been satisfied with the performance of the Mevo. Not a Trackman but not $20K either!
Sorry for being late to comment, but I’ve been using the Mevo since it first launched. It’s the best launch monitor under $1000 imo. I’ve had the sc200, 300, g80 and recently the R10 and have concluded that the Mevo is consistently more accurate by a large margin. Testing frequently against Trackman and GC quad at local golf stores, the Mevo is almost always within 1 mph while the others are very erratic with about 30% misreads. As far as your slow video loading, other commenters may have figured it out but for me, when my iPhone storage gets full, it gets slow. After emptying the storage, it’s super fast. Club head speed not reading: I found out that all Doppler radar devices have a hard time reading glossy finished carbon fiber heads…even my swing speed radar. It reads Ping driver club head speed every time, but my epic driver only gets about 70% of the time. My workaround was a small piece of masking tape on the callaway and presto, 100% reading..even for the SSR. Ball speed is within 1-2 mph of GC quad, club head speed is about 2-4 mph faster than GC quad (but so is the SSR) launch angle is read near perfect if the Mevo is set up correctly using the stand and spin is about 200 rpm of the GC quad. Many times, the numbers were identical. I can’t say the same for the R10 which was sometimes significantly off. I don’t pay attention to the calculated numbers, only the measured ones and am very satisfied. Mevo is small, always in my golf bag and let’s me know if my swing changes are working to improve ball speed. After many years and many devices I’d say the Mevo is the best bang for the buck.
I don’t use the video mode. You can use it and check your swing after. If you know what you’re doing and just want to see the #’s just put it next to your phone and you’ll get the #’s right away. You can also tweak the settings. I use 6 ft away and I always get a reading. I have used it in simulators, against track man and the stats are pretty much in line. Bought it last year and love it.
I agree with what others have said with not fully understanding the product and features. There are endless benefits to this device. It is a bummer to see this because MrShortGame is generally a great product reviewer, but I really do not think he did justice to this device. I researched launch monitors extensively and ended up grabbing the Mevo. I think it is incredible. I use the audible option and you can pick which item it reads out loud so you can work on a specific area and just keep swinging. If I am dialing in distance I will set it to announce carry. If I am working on swing speed with a driver I will set it to announce swing speed. I have had no slowness and the numbers seem more accurate than other monitors. Accuracy does depend on alignment. The device has a sight on the top-right which you are supposed to use to align it with your hitting area and the distance from the ball is also very important. The way you can organize your practice sessions, get a visual representation of ball trajectory, export the data, share your swing videos.
Have this and used for past 2 years. You need to go into settings and turn on the audio that will call this out. You really should get familiar with products before you review them. I wanted to call you to walk you through all the features. This is one of the best on the market if not the best for the price. You also should set your phone on slow motion so you can really see your swing later when reviewing your data. It uses a microphone so it is also very important to make sure you have put the device at the appropriate distance and set that in your settings. Most people do not place this the correct distance which will cause issues like missed data. Doing reviews without being fully informed (which I see all the time from people on RUclips) and experienced with the product can do serious damage to a products reputation unnecessarily and without merit. Just saying...keep up the great golf videos, but product reviews need some improvement.
I think he was trying to give us the same experience we will get if we buy it. Frankly no way I would since it is so slow and cumbersome, plus the phone is a killer right there.
It's great for what I do for practicing. I can see everything in 120fps, ball contact, etc. It's a great device if you want video recording. If you just want to see data, then it's definitely better to have a data monitor with display that doesn't require the phone. The one BIG downside is if you don't have an Internet connection you won't login and thus it won't work. I never knew that until I went to a place where I had no connection about a year after I got it so there are a lot of things that are important with this device for people to know. However, it is a fantastic device. I shot with it next to a $15k Flightscope and it was practically identical in the data it captures. If you want just numbers and nothing else without video I would definitely look at something else. I got it for the video recording and my phone does 240fps so I can get very detailed views of ball contact and a lot of other things I am working on.

I have one and I actually enjoy the video mode. I usually don't look at the video mode while I am at the range. I did compare it with my local golf pro'sTrackman and it was pretty accurate across the board. The only data point that was generous on the mevo compared to the Trackman was club head speed. I made this mistake and I was pissed for my first session. However, this is typical for most Doppler radar launch monitors that use this type of tech. I will also add the support team was awesome on the phone and via email.
My Mevo picks up my club head speed with my irons but doesn't do very well picking up the driver club head speed. My carry distances and spins are very accurate. In order for it to use a shot tracer with any semblance of accuracy it's going to need to measure side spin, etc which it doesn't do. It's the best most accurate driving range launch monitor below $2,000 out there.
I bought the SC300 using your link! Thanks for the reviews! The mevo might be more accurate if you take the time to measure the exact distance, line it up perfectly and put stickers on the balls, but for the couple yards variance the sc300 seems way more user friendly. I also like that I don't need my phone to use it because both the sc300 and mevo android apps need work. If the mevo app isn't working your out of luck, at least the sc300 will still give you everything except spin if the app is down.

mevo can read out loud eg carry distance for you, so you do not have to go back and forth. I use it for wedges and gapping
Yes, I agree. I usually have it read out carry distances, but sometimes I set it to call out launch angles and spin rates especially when I'm focusing on my wedges and driver.
Matt! You didn't have the Mevo at the proper distance behind the ball and you have to set the proper distance in the settings. The Mevo would have picked up the swings speeds if you would have set the distance settings properly. You also didn't have to go behind your camera each time to see your stats, you can actually watch yourself and see your data if you would had just switch to your front camera on your phone, you also have the option of video and data or just data alone. You would have known this if you would have read the manual and done your homework before doing this horrible review. You also have the option of putting the video mode in slow motion as well, but unfortunately for your viewers you didn't read the manual. This was an unfair review because you have no idea of what you were doing.
Looks like you tested this straight out of the box? I'm wondering if there are some firmware updates for the device. Could help with the no-reads on club head speed and overall accuracy. I own a skytrak and the software/firmware updates have helped tremendously over time. So might be a more fair review if the Mevo is updated to the latest release. Great videos, dude!

Hey, have you noticed on indoor mode, the backspin is almost double what I’m reading w/ QED, which means my distances are WAY off. Maybe 20 yards off for a 7 iron. Have you noticed that about Mevo and M+?
Great content and review. I don't mind that you have to use your phone for info. I probably wouldn't use the video option either but it is nice to have if you want to look at your swing.
You honestly can’t say the mevo flightscope is expensive at 500$? Compared to similar products on the market for getting the same kind of data especially for the average golfer is a bargain! 25k for a trackman...no thanks

Looking into getting something off one of your links to help the channel as well. Thanks in advance. Please keep up the videos as my county in CA is in full lockdown. I bought the sc300, if you don't have an Apple phone or iPad it's a pretty easy choice. Look at the app reviews on the playstore, they're both bad. Thankfully the sc300 doesn't need an app. I have found that it's worked for me so far, but when I linked it to my friends iPad, there was a firmware update I never saw on my Samsung S9 and he was able to update the monitor.

Seems like the Mevo is a waste of time. I have the swing Caddie 200.....very accurate up to 5 iron. Under clocks for a driver. Doesn't measure spin rates either.
The Mevo isn't old technology. The Mevo plus uses the same technology, but adds in some other parameters to turn it into a more robust launch monitor for $1,500 more.

All cheap launch monitors are pointless. They're designed for the not-so-serious golfers and yet they provide inaccurate and unimportant info. They can't tell you ball spin or even where you struck the ball on the club face. Focusing on distance and club head speed when you can't even strike the ball well is ass backwards. Either get the good stuff or spend your money at the course and range to actually improve your game, not have data on how shitty you are.
This is a dumbass comment, these devices that aren’t the 15k-20k counterparts are great for people to map out distance control for each club. If you’re spending $500 on a launch monitor I’m pretty sure you can strike the ball good enough. Your usual weekend warrior isn’t going to buy this. These devices are meant just to capture the swing speed and distance of a 1/2 , 3/4 , full shot so when you are 70 yards away you get a good idea on the stroke to put on that ball. I don’t see how you don’t understand this.
Video is slow saving in slow motion only, fast in regular mode. It also clips your swing video to swing only. For higher swing speed like a driver you need it farther from ball. Perhaps you should read instructions before reviewing in public.
Don't be fooled by his struggles with it. It's obvious he didn't know how to use it before making this video. I figured mine out immediately and it connects seamlessly every time.

Love mine. It’s on point with carry distance. Don’t use the video mode though
You seem to nail what I like / dislike with gadgets. Would love your take on the Garmin G80
This was an unfair review because you have no idea of what you were doing.
dont candy-coat it lol
It's a good device I would watch it and wait for it to go on sale. I got mine 350$ from Amazon
That makes me super jelly. I've been on the fence.
thanks for keeping us in isolation sane .. Mr SG.. looks good! here's a tip try shooting the video with the phone in landscape or horizontal..
You have to put the silver dots on the clubs you want to register more accurately.
Thanks for the review. When you compare the models, Is there a way for you to include gc quad or trackman too?
I have 5 kids. I really need to win a Launch Monitor give away. I’m still going strong the old fashion way. Been pushing hard making this Golf thing work. Thanks for the review boss always appreciate it
Great video. Have you considered reviewing Garmin approach G80?
Thanks for your honesty.
Hey, have you noticed on indoor mode, the backspin is almost double what I’m reading w/ QED, which means my distances are WAY off. Maybe 20 yards off for a 7 iron. Have you noticed that about Mevo and M+?
I would love to see a review on the Rapsodo Lunch Monitor. Same price point but video can trace your ball flight.
You don't need to record your swing to get it to work. You can just use your phone as the stats monitor.
Mevo versus Rapsodo Mobile Launch Monitor? Thank you
Great content and review. I don't mind that you have to use your phone for info. I probably wouldn't use the video option either but it is nice to have if you want to look at your swing.
Will you ever do a Mevo Plus review?
You honestly can’t say the mevo flightscope is expensive at 500$? Compared to similar products on the market for getting the same kind of data especially for the average golfer is a bargain! 25k for a trackman...no thanks
An app, I have to see if I can download and app for my LG basic flip phone, ah never mind.
Have been looking at this, the SC 300 that you also use and the PRGR. Out of the 3 which one do you like better and why? Looking into getting something off one of your links to help the channel as well. Thanks in advance. Please keep up the videos as my county in CA is in full lockdown. All golf courses and ranges closed for at least 2 weeks and possibly longer.
Returned this thing after a week. Wasn't willing to put up with all the clunkiness of the app and it disconnecting randomly or refusing to connect for that price.
The mevo plus is a SkyTrak killer
You are suppose to put the mevo 4 feet for irons and wedges and for drivers is most accurate at 7 feet
can i put a bit of silver paint on the ball to get spin?
Been Waiting on the TRUTH about this lil guy.! Thanks Matt!
How about the mevo plus
How else do u see ur numbers if u don't use your phone like ur gonna have to have an app
Wonder what this would show when hitting hollow plastic practice balls...
So what’s ur favorite of all the launch monitors ? Thanks
Mr Shortgame is No1. I love your vids.
Great review...I think that the Voice Caddie SC 300 is better...but the Earnest Sports ES 14 works great...You can took it up to you I Pad with the free down load and get all the results and voice you want....Thanks...Mevo not worth the money compared to others....Thou FlightScope is a good name....
Thanks for the review on the mevo. I was looking at this item but I hate all the extra stuff you need to do to use it. Simple is always better. I have the prgr and saw your review of it and realized I wasn’t using it properly. Can’t wait for this isolation to end to get back to using it now Thanks again
Damn they were busy spraying the skies that day...bet it rained a couple days after
Chemtrails are not real you lunatic
@@motorcitysmitty4 ummm maybe you need to look up cloud modification on RUclips. They explain what they do. They DO spray to help modify the weather and induce rain. Been doing it for years
How long did it take for you to get it? I ordered mine through the website on April 18 still did not ship. I also emailed Flightscope and they said that it’s still in South Africa and I should have it within 4 weeks of when I ordered it. Today will be my 4th week :(
If you want me to give you a like 👍it has to be a review that answers all the questions I have about it. I didn’t finish watching cuz it was obvious you were goofing around trying to figure it out.
Thank you for this review! Would love if you did a review on the Mevo+! It's a competitor to the Skytrak.
Arnoud Jonkers it is better than the Skytrak
I didn't see you selecting which club you were hitting. From other reviews that seems important for getting all the data on each shot. Good review though!
jim mack I did that just didn’t show it
Where can I get one of those hats???
Use a tablet on range or laptop at home might be cool?
Maybe if my little brother gets me one for my birthday, oh, and he will have to get me a phone with an app thingy too. We'll see. It would be better if he just gets me a GC Quad ball data thingy, I mean what the hell is money when it's something your older brother wants, right.
How many subs do we need to get a colab vid with u ? I know it has to be mutually beneficial but we will never catch up because your a beast bro !! Anyway great vid as all ways ! 💪
Bogey Brothas happy to hook up sometime
MrShortGame Golf 👀🙌 after the virus is under control we will hold you to it .. stay safe out there brotha
But does it work with high lofted clubs, because pgr didn’t do well with wedges.
I have had no problems with wedges.
Needs those dots on the ball to trace and find...far more useful.
Hey Mat, any chance you could review the Ernest 16 or 20?
Robert Gabel dont waste your money
Surely once you took it off video maids you didn’t need the phone in the tripod behind you.
Does it use a lot of mobile data ?
Im gonna wait until it all becomes just an app that’ll cost $29.99
I am looking for a launch monitor and still can’t decide which one.
This video didn’t really sway me either way on the mevo. I’d love to see you hit it into a net, as most of us would use it for. Would it give different results?
I watched your video as a subscriber, not for the product. I really enjoy your content and have found myself clicking towards you lately rather than the other ‘click bait’ channels.
Keep up the videos, as an amateur golfer your videos have helped me knock a couple of strokes off my game.
Since you have trackman can you sell me this at a discount so I can dial in my irons?
Watching this makes me really envious that you are even allowed outside these days.
There is no reason for you to cower inside. The politicians are misleading you. Go outside and enjoy life. The numbers are being reported in the take news in the most misleading manner. I am sorry you are being foo,Ed.
I used Nevo this morning similar data.
Video is slow!
man i prefer the prgr launch monitor half of the mevo price and accurate
Gon macgolf never heard of that one.
What shot tracer does anyone recommend
How do I get that hat! I want one !
Great review again. Although I like the garmin better so far.
G80?
@@axelvonripper yes
@@scm021374 any overheating issues? I'm in Arizona, so I was a little concerned about that
@@axelvonripper not really.
It's bloody brilliant.
2 minutes into video, I knew I was not going to buy this device. There are several options in this price range or below that do not require the user of your phone or tablet.
I've tried several of them and none of them are as accurate as the Mevo.
Mevo + review soon?
Seems like the Mevo is a waste of time. I have the swing Caddie 200.....very accurate up to 5 iron. Under clocks for a driver. Doesn't measure spin rates either.
I just need clubhead and ball speed too.
and distance!
@@theguyshow3392 And after that you'll need launch angle. And after that spin rate.
great video!
Why review old tech? Why not the new Mevo +?
The mevo is
The Mevo isn't old technology. The Mevo plus uses the same technology, but adds in some other parameters to turn it into a more robust launch monitor for $1,500 more.
@@ClintWilber Let me rephrase...Why review a product that has been on the market for 2 yeas and has Many other reviews already when the same company has launched a better version of it that is still somewhat lacking in reviews?
@@stephenrose4582 There are no license fees with the Mevo+. Also for accuracy sake if you are going to specify that the Mevo is sub 500 please specify that the mevo+ is sub 2,000...
@@drewlance5406 I was under the impression that there was a license fee unless you ran on an Apple Ipad (Pro being recommended/required). At the moment, I just have PC and Android devices where a license fee is required. In lieu of paying a license fee I plan on purchasing an Ipad just for the Mevo+. Regarding the cost accuracy, yes, I see your point, but I know a couple of people who just purchased the Mevo for $350. BTW, I love my Mevo, but don't use it the same way as shown in this video.
Are you sponsored by callaway now? Just wondering?
Rather get the G80
Distance in the app was set a 7 feet and you didn't have it set at 7 feet ... I doubt any of the numbers were accurate in this review ...
Matt put a dot on back of your driver
You put out some good content, but can't tell if you are getting lazy or bored...
Video is slow saving in slow motion only, fast in regular mode. It also clips your swing video to swing only. For higher swing speed like a driver you need it farther from ball. Perhaps you should read instructions before reviewing in public.
if you want the video to load faster, get a faster phone. simple.
Read the directions? Really? I'm a man, I don't read no stinking directions. Well, not until my wife says, "Did you read the directions?"
You can't review this thing properly unless you do it against the real thing.. I'm not sure what the gold standard is but I think its the trackman.
You can always pay 20k for a Trackman.
the last one was better than this
I think there may have been some user error there... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Hey Mat thank you for the review. I’ll not by it, it is to difficult, and to slow
face to path?
Not with Mevo but Mevo + does
I would leave this at the store. Don't even pick it up. Don't like the process.
Don't be fooled by his struggles with it. It's obvious he didn't know how to use it before making this video. I figured mine out immediately and it connects seamlessly every time.
It doesn't seem to be very accurate
Learn to use things before you review them. Mine works great.
n00b review
I swear there’s a different one
Markus1826 Andre yes the new one is called Mevo ‘+‘
Sounds like Ari gold....
Use an iPad
You are very impatient.
Dude starts video by whining about $500 and using a phone. Lmao, $500 is a pair of shoes bro and get an ipad with a charging case 😂
