Taking two very different images of the Large Magellanic Cloud

  • Having a couple of hours to get in close I decided to take some RGB data close up on the Tarantula nebula whilst letting my Canon samyang lens take the large wide shot with a duo narrowband filter to capture all that surrounding nebulosity.

      Hey Pal ye the weather ☁️ is being consistently troublesome. It must be all that gear you keep accidentally buying 😂. Clear skies pal.

      Hey cheers Tony. Hopefully we get something clear again soon. If I were a bit further inland, I think I would get many more clear skies. Most of us live near the coast down here. Cheers again.

    Awesome to see some beautiful areas of your southern skies at different focal lengths, mate! You nailed them both and I loved the end result. Really enjoyed the video and hope you have a great weekend! :)

      Hey thanks for watching pal. Yes these really are a couple of majestic areas that we have down here. Really would like to try that close up again with more data and maybe narrowband. You too mate have a good weekend:) 👍

    Hi Ollie! I enjoyed the video and how you process your images, to be honest I forgot all about the HDR tool thanks for the reminder.
    I’m glad you managed to get a few breaks in the weather it’s the same here in the UK Weather wise.
    Loved the finished result.
    Wishing you clear skies Tam

    Love the look of the LMC with the Samyang and the 533 - kind of looks like some scary multi-eyed beast. And really interesting idea imaging the core of the Tarantula which is so often blown out in wider field images - forget the Trapezium, the Tarantularezium (ok so I made up that name) is where it's at (putting that on my list for the Meade I think).

    • @AstroSoundscape
      @AstroSoundscape  10 месяцев назад +1

      Hey Logan - Yep I think the Tarantula really up close and then mixing in some different length exposures could be really cool ! I like that name BTW :)

    Hi Ollie! Well, it's great to see that you turned your head back to where it belongs (..southern hemisphere objects....lol...😉...just kidding you...😁...lol..) If you keep doing that, I can guarantee that your weather will improve.😂
    Anyway...Ollie, those are lovely images of the LMC (*), and I appreciated seeing how your processed both the wide-field & long-focal length images(**).👍
    IMHO & FWIW, if one has a medium or long focal length system, then one has a season's worth of really cool nebulae to explore in the LMC & SMC.....and that's above & beyond the incredible Tarantula Nebula, which - as you've shown - is awesome at any focal length. Furthermore, there is 47 Tucana in the neighbourhood (...a complete show-stopper of a globular..) plus some other clusters & OB associations in the LMC & SMC. (...and for those who love to do a lot of visual astronomy, a medium to large aperture dobsonian in good skies will provide a great look at all of these objects...)
    (*) This only increases my hankering to observe & image from the southern hemisphere...it has been more than a decade since I did! 😢
    (**) You did a great job with processing Ollie. Two questions:
    (a) Does PI allow you to apply masks to Star Exterminator or similar applications?
    (b) Is it possible to use HDR in PI with more than two sets of exposures?
    cheers!

    • @AstroSoundscape
      @AstroSoundscape  10 месяцев назад +1

      Hey Derek - Haha 😂 I thought it was time I left your objects alone as well, can only steal so much in one season.
      You're absolutely right about how much those objects offer in the various focal lengths. There's just so much going on. They really look great under a nice dark sky.
      So in terms of those questions for the HDR I'm pretty sure you can add as many images as you like I just think you have to start with the longest exposure image first (at the top). As for the masks and Star Xterminator, not tried that. I'll test it on my next image and let you know.
      Thanks pal, hope your Astro in all is forms is going well :)

    Really interesting Ollie. Again, I learned a lot. For example using HDR composition function in PI to combine images..the core here. (Never used it). That's super helpful. As well as showing how you processed your images. Wow,..I mean there is SO much happening in this region (LMC).. You did really great..on both final images..beautiful. cs

      Hey Mate thanks muchly. Glad you got some tips out of it mate. James from the DSO Imager channel has a good video of the HDR composition tool. You're right about that area there's so much going on there. I hope you're doing well pal. Many CS :)
