The trios era on Top Gear was far far better that the Grand Tour. It's an entertaining show of course but at the same time I think the money has spoilt them. They had to be creative to make the BBC budget work, the Amazon money just lets them do what they want.
I think it's more that they had to work within the BBC's standards as well, so they tried to be a close to the knuckle as they could in terms of how appropriate for the timeslot they had to be. On Amazon they didn't have the same restrictions, so sometimes they'd veer off into indulgent bits.
@@jazzygeofferz I would absolutely agree with that. It's a small tangent but I always found Frankie Boyle far funnier on Mock the Week than in his own stand-up shows at the time because as you mention there were certain things that couldn't be broadcast.
They spent 20 years on Top Gear figuring out what works… just for it to be thrown away and have to make the same thing that works but slightly different and the biggest change is more scripting and the lack of stig jokes. The scripting really ruins it for me.
And they have been doing it together for a LONG time. Even before they left Top Gear, there was an element of them repeating themselves, nothing lasts forever

And when Jeremy asks "What was that hit song of theirs? Jennifer..?"
@@chaoslord8918 you never hear it any more, do you?
There will never be a better car-enthusiast-show as good as a show with these 3 blokes!
3:12
Let's simplify and cut to the chase:
Hammond gets in a car, and crash into things.
These guys are some of the luckiest blokes alive. The cars, the travel, the money, their fun and experiences along the way is just amazing. I'd love to watch an hour long video of the three of them just sitting at a table and reminiscing about the time they've spent together over the decades.
Actually, there was one occasion, when one of them had an accident, and the other two were sympathetic, and indeed, concerned.
Never watched a episode of top gear after they left the show
I watched a few with the first lineup, my God it was bad, then had the misfortune of seeing the current lineup and oh Lord cringingly terrible. Anything that mcguinness is in tho is absolute twoddle, all he does is shout and think he's funny.
@NidgeOSullivan was the first lineup with matt leblanc and Chris Evans? Remember that being terrible
You missed the one where Richard is testing the Lamborghini Huracan Performante. Something like "I tested the original Huracan on a car show, in a galaxy far far away. This is what it should've been." Season 2 episode 7.
you missed .....what was yorkshire famous for??....."the show where three middle aged men were there and whatever they did went wrong"
Last of the summer gear I think hahahaha
Not really a direct reference, but when James brought the Renault Avantime out on the new special I was filled with Nostalgic Top Gear memories.
Reno 😂😂
Anyone else cry during the last episode?
Not for the show though, for the Mondeo.
@whit TF is even that-
@@NathanVeee no, no he's got a point. An awful one, but a point nonetheless
Only at the part where one of the audience said "Don't stop!". I don't care if that was random or staged. Nobody wants this to stop. It tugs at the heartstrings.
No, why do grown adults cry for a tv show especially when it obviously hasn't ended, IE the trio still make essentially the same show, more or less. The specials are good!
So new Top Gear have managed to score hardly half a second of this footage so far
Only one reference i can think of that you missed, hammond in the mustang driving past the cennotaph
Wasn't that just out of respect? Whats the reference?
@@KingEddo8 Matt Leblanc and Ken block did donuts in the "hoonicorn" mustang around the cennotaph.
@@ldwp6395 Ahhhhh I forgot about that. Thanks
"I hated Vietnam" next episode they go to Vietnam
Well.. sorry for breaking in. But clarkson likes Vietnam. He just hates being in motorcycle
@@kadalarab5735 was still a funny point to make lol
One thing I will always remember about Vietnam is losing an Uncle I barely knew. My Uncle was a Marine and flew helicopters, he was shot at, shot up, and shot down. After his first tour of duty was completed he decided to stay over there a little while longer. One day he was riding his motorcycle and a truck pulled out in front of him; that was his last day.
Truly, Jeremy being emotional brings tears to my eyes.
There was another reference when they drive again on USA, and Jeremy put the radio and the music was the old Top Gear one.
Yep, I was waiting for that one. IIRC, they were all listening to the same radio station (probably the only one they could get where they were at) and Jessica came on - and they all had a laugh.
That was in Top Gear. Unless it happened again
@@interstate366 You are correct: ruclips.net/video/xuRVKfzKaQg/видео.html My bad.
3:11, I think Hammond has a history of crashing.
The TGT title is just a fancy way of sticking it to the men "Top Gear Team"
My dad always saw it as "Top Gear Two"...not like that makes much of a difference
you forgot about when Richard was reviewing the huracan performante and he said on a car show in a galaxy far far away he was talking about when he reviewed the normal huracan on season 22 of top gear
4:05 - should have a warning for upsetting scenes that guarantees to induce tears
Anyone else think these short clips are 1,000 times better than the entire 'new' Top Gear series since these three left?
I had a Lexus ISF...and my dad's insurance company said I had to pay 2000 dollars to have a LoJack installed on it before they would insure it...their reason...because the wheels were some of the most commonly stolen...the wheels...
I absolutely love that stare Richard gives to the camera after saying he's "never" heard of the Allman Brothers.
Quality upload 👍🏻
I grew up watching top gear, probably from a way way to early age and I absolutely love the grand tour now, i can’t imagine them not being apart of my life.
I’m gonna be Robin Williams levels of sad when these guys are gone. That was rather morbid, but it’s just weird seeing them get old
Hearing that Tesla sued because Clarkson didn’t like the shitty car was a sign that Elon always had an ego problem.
You missed the one by James in Car of the People, where he essentially referenced the sudden demise of the old TG.
Hammond really loves Yorkshire 😂😂 how does he manage to crash EVERYTHING 😂😂
4:42 - 4:45 James summed up the cameraside of it, quite well, actually.
The Allman Brothers made a song called Jessica which became Top Gear’s theme song. That’s the reference at the start of the video 😉
Was ittttt, well done you smart boy
1:24 guess Tesla tried and failed at saving some ones ego. Twice.
1:55 - That look into the camera. It was SO precise, not overdone, perfect timing, Clarkson may be a car expert, journalist, etc., but actually he has a bit of a good actor in him.
5:44 that laugh of the 3 was too real and unscripted
“Top something or other” left me dead 💀
That switch from Tesla to BMW had me quite confused. Took me a little rewind to realise that they were two separate clips. 😅
I still cant watch the last few minutes of the last episode since it aired. The pain in Jeremy's voice when he says its over is one of the most crushing things ive ever heard.
Im enjoying all the specials, and while im sure theyll finally retire soon-ish, i hope its on a much happier note than that gut wrenching scene....
They will be the best car show presenter. Love them
The part I enjoyed was Jeremy dropping the "big dumb oaf" act when he lovingly mentioned Oliver.
5:27 can anyone tell me what the reference was

I just remembered while watching this video that I haven't yet watched Carnage a Trois. So thank you for that reminder, I'm gna go do that right now ❤️
0:18 Oliver's Message To Clarkson : "This Is The Car Show, You Blithering Idiot!" (In Monitor, Just Mean Jennifer Says "IT'S A CAR SHOW YOU IDIOTS")
Another reference is on Season 2, Ep. 2, where the production gives to Clarkson an audiobook to listen while travelling, but it was James May reading a book on how to fix things. In Top Gear Season 16, Ep.7 the production gives to Clarkson a Cd to listen while travelling to not fall asleep but it was Hammond reading On The Edge
I dearly miss the old format!
I got so sad when they started reminiscing about their old memories!😢 but don’t frown cause it’s over smile cause it happened!
So true. And we got to see it happen in our time. 👍
0:24 more like there crushed inside a porsche in argentina
Sad, and the UK government endorsed that.
Wait they crushed the 928?

@DittoGTI I'd be amazed if they didn't
@@The12thDimension. Bro that's really sad, that car has a large amount of TV significance
These three guys could make a show just about them sitting in a room and it would still be absolutely hilarious!
I love how they made fun of Hammond for naming Oliver and now that's how they refer to his car.
These three were brilliant together
Yeah, BBC, you really taught Clarkson a lesson. You torpedoed your most popular show. Well done! 🙄
i mean it was clarksons fault
@@JYMAHJAMES It was, but I think his point is that the BBC did more damage to themselves than they did to Clarkson.
@@nicholasharshbarger4454 I respect what BBC did. Integrity over money. You don't get to punch a coworker, then show up to work the next day.
@@massimoscognamiglio7369 "integrity over money"... With the BBC? I think not.
@@luke5837 Firing Clarkson was a move that valued integrity over money.
I think that when they became old, like 10 years in the future, they will come back with the studio formula, and just talk about new cars
Jennifer might have been a reference to when Jeremy made a bet to change his name to Jennifer if Richards Porsche was faster than his car
Jennifer is a reference to the top gear intro song
@@stolenchaser that too
I genuinely love these 3 together 😂
In the hurcan performante episode, there was a top gear reference when he talked about the old huracan
The Bolivia Death Road trip might be the most suspenseful, followed by that trip they took up that mountain pass in (near?) Kashmir. They seemed to be larking about a lot, considering the camera crew also has to make it through production.
2:41
the guy who had a science themed game show and currently has a show about his workshop has forgot that cars can sink
I love the screen saying "It's a Car Show, you Idiots."
1:48 I mean really though, how hard can it be?
That is rather ambitious but rubbish question to be honest.
3:27 love how the crowd cheered Hammond for his list of accidents 😂
Aw that last studio episode is so sad
As far as I'm concered Top Gear is no more without these three.
