Hi Emma your such a breath of fresh air you cheer everyone up on a dull gloomy day thank you for your diaries they make the whole week worth looking forward to watching you in your allotment much care , happy gardening
My allotment is my back garden and i'm never bored as i've just been bought my neighbours greenhouse for my birthday which is today so i'm happily sorting that outxx
I used a wet newspaper over my carrots until they are established and, I,also water in the rain and get funny looks but you need to get the water to the roots of the plants
hi Emma thank you for sharing with us,if you put a mint plant or( many little one )in a pot and put it right in the middle of the brassicas plot you won't get the catapillars because the cabbage butterfly don't like the smell of mint ,I tried and it's worked so I Pass one the information ,love from 🇫🇷.
Same happened to my brassicas, so I just took the nets off so then at least the birds can get the caterpillars 😅 fingers crossed. Next year I'll try make better protection
You can bury the pumpkin vines in compost to help direct them in the direction you want them to grown and they will set down roots at the nodes that are buries just leave the leafs out and it will help provide more nutrition and water for your plants
You have so many favourite flowers off the top of my head it’s sweet peas, dahlias and tulips 😊 I am trying to replicate your plot I absolutely love how you’ve got it. Thanks for your hard work sharing all this see you on Wednesday xx
I've got flower borders around my garden and was told years ago not just to water the borders but also the grass because on hot days, borders dry out quickly, but if the grass / lawn is wet the plants will benefit there roots will find water. Unfortunately, I don't have that in my back garden around my raised beds. I does really make a difference.
Great vlog as always! I always start my carrots off in modules and plant them out when they have germinated and have a few real leaves. I can then thin them out when needed - saves having to do lots of watering!
In the scheme of things, nobody will have a completely pest-free garden. Still worth trying to keep the chompy buggers away but if it’s not one thing, it’s another. I haven’t noticed any destructive bugs, but the rabbits are eating my sunflowers like it’s their job. I have two that are now quite tall despite the fluffy-tailed menaces wreaking havoc but it can be disheartening to see your stuff eaten to stubs and then waiting to see if it still can generate enough energy to grow back. Congrats on your beans growing!
Hi Emma am gutted for ya with the caterpillars ,have ya tried an organic spray? With garlic n chilli there must be something especially when youv taken the time n effort to cover them ❤
This year, for the first time I have had success with my cabbages!! As we were moving house I didn't grow brassicas but I did grow onions, shallots, garlic, potatoes and broad beans. I had too many spring cabbages so I planted several in my greenhouse and the remainder in the garden. The greenhouse ones have done amazing , and to protect them inused egg shells and sheep's wool pellets, but I also had a sacrificial cabbage. The outside ones were under a long closh and have done well; although not good enough. amazingly, I use marigolds, nasturtiums, potatoes and sweetcorn plants next to them ;oh and garlic, beetroot and onions, and they've done great. I also grow my vegetables and fruit by the lunar cycle, which makes a huge difference.
During the lockdowns we cobbled together three make-shift arches on waist high beds on our lawn. I just adore seeing the different bean flowers on them. They have given us more beans than we can eat since that first seaon. I like it as much as any ornamental climbing plants.
The beans áre really cute! Plus the flowers are pretty. I may have to give them a go next year. Congrats on the pumpkins: doing so well! Hope you’re feeling better.
I did what you suggested and used a sticky plaster on my dahlia stem which was sat on by birds. It appears to work as it is still alive. THANK YOU EMMA.
Pumpkin arch is looking lush, when I'm trying to germinate direct sown seeds I put a plank of wood across to stop the drying out it's a risk as slugs will hide but it's working, fab vlog Emma 🥰
Have a look at Tony c smith allotment on how to build a hoop house,I always make mine quite tall because I your brassica touching the netting butterflies will lay through it so you have defietetd the object 😊
It is very difficult to leave things for stuff to eat each other. I have generally managed it, but I did see where someone was spraying BT but only in the middle or just on young growth. I always hate to do it because caterpillars are food for so many critters plus now it is much too hot for brassicas. It is possible in future years, I might consider spraying BT just in the middle to get the young growth, so the food creatures get the mature leaves and I get the young ones and the middle where the cabbages form. Although generally at the right time of year (winter and spring) my brassicas are beautiful without any protection, so it is possible I will just stick with timing. Less work anyways and no chance I will mess up the balance.
Hi Emma love your video I like this time of the year I get excited about what I’ve grown like things I’ve grow last year & do nothing so I grow again this time & surprise they have grown 👏👏👏👏 yes my sweet peas have gone to seed so I’m going to collect the seeds for next year hope I get a better crop next year lv Irene 😘 xx
Hiya Emma nice visit, plot looks colourful and thriving. I wonder if you can test the soil in your areas? I know you can purchase a kit at reasonable price at your local diy\ garden shops. Anywhoo just a thought as i learn from other subscribers and their helpful information. Hope you got home safe and dry blessings Luv Ontario Canada oh have you named your wee Robin friend?
It’s ok to grow along the ground. Just be sure to keep the pumpkins off of the mud when they start to grow. Try placing a bit of cardboard or some straw underneath them!
@@emmasallotmentdiaries thank you so much , not just with this but with all your videos and help . I’ve sent you some pictures on Insta of my garden allotment including cucamelons 😂
@@wesccfcMake sure you hand pollinate as unless you have hundreds of vines, the insects are unlikely to successfully pollinate the female pumpkin-bearing flowers. There’s loads of videos about hand pollination on youtube
Lay a plank of wood over the carrot seeds. It'll keep them moist.
The joys of gardening 😊

Emma try spraying with your garlick spray and add a teaspoon of cayenne pepper

I’ve read that the birds won’t eat the caterpillars because they’re full of mustard oil after feeding on the brassicas 🙁
I feed my cabbage worms to my goldfish in my garden pond. 🐛
😀 keep 'em coming Emma, always inspiring, always informative, always entertaining 😀👍

Get some scaffold debris netting instead of the wide mesh, its a game changer where butterflys are concerned :)

Thank you
Over watering carrots will lead to forked roots, every 10 to 14 days is plenty this will encourage the roots to go down in search of moisture

Sweet cherry pie Angel nice one 🍒😂
My tomatoes aren't doing so well, those guys have decided I'm not getting much yield this year 😂
First time of me doing pumpkins , do they have to grow up an arch or are they ok at ground level ?
