  • HMS Engadine was a British seaplane tender that saw service with the Royal Navy from September of 1914 to December of 1919. She is notable for being involved with the Cuxhaven Raid, and the Battle of Jutland, during which she became the first vessel to launch a seaplane that performed reconnaissance of an enemy fleet in action.

I remember my nan telling me stories back in the 1970's about her dad Arthur Phillips who had been in the RN from 1894 to 1919 and this ship is one of the ones she mentioned him serving on , he certainly was not on this one at Jutland as she said that the ship he was on in that battle got blown up and he was one of the few survivors - she did tell me the name of that ship but its such a long time ago that I have forgotten it . Thank you for doing this video and keeping old memories alive .

I am on the verge of copping a 1:700 scale model of this vessel. The kit itself looks to be very accurate & has the 184s & a Sopwith seaplane variant as well. Lots of photo etch parts as well- looks to be a great little kit.
Thank you for producing this segment on HMS ENGADINE. I surely will be revisiting this video again soon for references about this ship.
Interesting about the carrier pigeons too !!
Many a Zeppelin/airship employed this as a backup as well. So, so interesting & a true view as to things that used to be in a world gone by !!

Thank you! I confess I was rather surprised when I started reading about the Engadine that it ended up as the Corregidor.

Glad you enjoyed it. Naval aviation is a little regarded aspect of World War 1 and I intend to pursue it.

Definitely not offended! It was Drachinifel who inspired me to create this channel, and he has been personally very helpful when I've had questions or needed feedback. Glad you're enjoying it.

Very interested in this history because my great grandfather, Alfred Oates, served on HMS Engadine. I’ve got a great photograph of him in uniform.

A professional narration by Jerry. An informative article on a subject about which I knew little. You have whetted my appetite for more. Are you thinking of doing anything on WW1 tanks ?

Thank you, David. Curiously, I've done a presentation on the first tank vs tank battle: ruclips.net/video/J5zs-fON_Xw/видео.html.

Jerry thanks for your post on early naval aviation. A history buff at heart, but naval aviation is my favorite area of history.
