All That Remains - Not Alone (guitar cover)

- I'm playing along with the song "Not Alone" by All That Remains. The solo took me a while to transcribe and get up to speed due to the odd tapping/sliding transitions. You will notice a transition in the video just before the solo. This is because I put two takes together instead of trying to play the song perfectly in one shot. Throughout most of this song there are two distinct guitar parts, and I am only playing one of these parts. For this reason, my recorded guitar may sound a bit different than what you're accustomed to hearing from the album track. If you pan the album track all the way to the left or right, you will hear these two distinct guitar parts.
I transcribed this song entirely by ear, as all of the existing tabs I could find were atrocious. The tuning is D standard and I playing my ESP KH-2 through a Line 6 POD 2.0. The tab is now available on my website!

Yeah, I've actually played a couple different ones in Guitar Center, the Hellraiser being one of em, and I just wasn't a fan...the active pickups were a plus though

DON'T BUY A MESA they're muddy, and it takes hours upon HOURS of tweeking to get a halfway good tone. I have several friends with dual rectifiers and they're horrible. plus I just played a Mark V the other day and I really didn't like it.
I'd go Peavey. I have a Valveking head and it sounds amazing for metal. if you dont' believe me check my videos.
I'd go with a Peavey 5150 or 6505+ (people say the 6505 sounds better than the + but i've only ever played the + so idk)
But bullet uses 5150 =]

the bands your covering like as i lay dying, all that remains and trivium really should ask you to play with them on a consert! it would be a succsess both for you and the bands your covering! i would definitly come to that consert, even if i live in norway! and i think the over (guessing) 15 millions that has watched all your videos would think about it 2! what would be even greater is if you could play ur song ¨the rising¨ at the same consert.

sweepings probably going to take you a while, i only recently learnt how to sweep pick and ive been playing for almost two years, ( 9 hours a day for the first half a year). but hand of blood by bullet for my valentine should be ok for you i think, if you want to improve of picking then learn children of bodom songs, its what i used to get as good as i am now, not the whole song, but chorus and intros and interludes, they normaly have patterns you will need to know to progress, hope that helped
Love it, Love your vids, you're an honest inspiration to me after i saw your cover of "Six" by All That Remains. What pickups and stings do you use?? My guitar doesnt put out near the sound yours does, but of course i only have a Dean Dime Razorback -_-....sigh. Also =], what amps and pedals do you have??? I' m pretty sure my next venture into a music store i'll end up spending major cash but i'd love to know either way, anything to make the bands songs i love sound amazing as shown here =D.
Most of the time hand made guitars are better. Chances are the person making the guitar is going to do a very good job... Most of the hand made guitars I have dont have very many flaws if any at all... Factory made guitars on the other hand, at least in my experience, usually have a lot. Almost every guitar ive bought that was factory made, unless its uber expensive, have had something wrong with them when I got them.
I kind of understand what you're trying to say.Guitar is a very personal thing, brands don't matter nor cost, It's all personal preference really-I like the feel of my guitar a lot more than a lot more expensive models but that's just me. I suppose if people really think it is worth it, go for it. But i would say look at other options in the price range before making an investment such as that.Well im done annoying, as i dont want you to hate me competely,as i still think you are a good composer
hand made doesnt make it better for sure- many complaints come from them as well as factory made- nor a custom instrument. I'm simply trying to help people to be honest. I don't understand the use in spending money on something that doesnt have a ratio of money to features/craftsmanship. Like Gibson's or Fenders, they can over price simply because the are iconic and original. i had no means to offend. however if you so quick to anger maybe you shouldnt be interacting online.

how did you trained your hand to do souch fast underhand picking....
coz in parts like the part after the main solo of master of puppets the picking is so fast it is nearlly impossible.... (if you do it in underhand style. with alternative picking its a piece of cake...)

@dragonkiller63729 when i started guitar the first thing i learned was how to play lamb of god so if your into that kind of music learn there songs from tabs and then just use the things learned in their into other songs im not the best but im better than i was when i started and when i play guitar i just merk shit lol.
@TheCreature909 i prefer this version besides its a short song so what if it sounds different. Thats the thing now a days people try to hard to sound EXACTLY like the record add your own sound i mean its always good to play it right but its a HELL of a lot more fun to add your own flavor makes it sound more organic.

Also call me biased if it makes you feel better. You have to be either incapable of comprehending or understanding their lyrics and meanings of their songs or just like the sound of 100% screaming and blairing "noises" of real "metal" bands. At least they understand melodic rhythm and what really goes into making a good song, like my friend KillrBuckeye.
I guess you would learn to play one song like this guy but that would take a lot of work from anyone just starting to play concidering the difficulty of these songs. I wish I could play like him but I started playing on my own last may and I´m not this good yet. I guess that I´ll have to stick with learning Maiden and stuff like that..... Great job on the song by the way!
I was wondering if you included both parts of the Harmony in your tablature. I've been having trouble downloading GP tabs lately (with work, i can get them. I just have to go digging through my temp folder to get them and its a pain)

But i think it would be GREAT if you did a dual track recording of this song(like, record left AND right guitars) put them together, pan left and right separate and upload to your site, or upload to here and say to watch in high quality to get the stereo sound.

retuning it wont break anything, just causes allot of hassle, especially with the bridge.
it took me a week to re string my jackson, single handedly, and i made the noob mistake of taking off all strings at once. what guitar do you have anyway? you only speak about the tremlo bar lol

im exactly the same, i dont want to retune my jackson so i just ended up buying an ibanez without a floyd rose tremlo, thats my 'every other tuning guitar' definetly look into tuning a floyd rose though, especially changing strings
I have a Dean Vendetta XM I bought from my buddy, its pretty nice and retail is anywhere from 100-150 depending on the place you go.. Its great for this kind of music. The only thing I don't like about it is that the body of it is way lighter than the neck.. so it feels unbalanced.
how about avoid the conflict cause All That Remains, Disturbed, Dragonforce, ect. are all great bands it's just that no one is going to like all of them at once. So if someone likes something don't get all mad casue they don't like what u like.

Well Wasted years is the only Maiden song that uses tremolo picking. And by my comment I meant more his covers like the sound of truth which has some really tricky parts for me in the main riff. Maiden has much easier riffs for example number of the beast and fear of the dark
I like the intro part you played, sounds so cool. But I have a question, wouldn't the other part that is like that be the lead for that riff?
Incase that is confusing, I am just asking did you play the lead guitar riff in the beginning, or the rythm guitar riff.

This guy is a really good guitar player, but i don't see how this song is more difficult to play then some Maiden songs. The majority of this song seems pretty easy to play, although KillrBuckeye plays it very well. (In response to a previuos comment.)

the guitar is clearly not worth the money... completely over priced with only average features, EMG active set, orginal floyd rose, alder body... I could get a guitar of this caliber for roughly 1000$ easily. maybe even less.
This is Metalcore which is a sub-genre of Metal which is a sub-genre of Rock.
Metalcore has screams and sick riffs and drumming but the chorus is melodic.
Death Metal sucks you cant understand what they are saying.

@seagullssuck2 i actually think it's the other way around. a lot of bands have good guitar stuff and then the drums are just too generic. all that remains is interesting on every intsrument though

I'd get a Mark V. Those are the new ones and they have so many different combinations you can get whatever you want out of it. It's got the Mark II thru Mark IV sounds plus a bunch of other channels.
you use your kh alot in your videos, and i was wondering if you did the intonation yourself, you probably do, but how did you learn because the guitar shop told me 3 weeks 0_0 and i cant wait that long :)
Maybe it was called solo A because its performed by the lead guitarist originally and solo B is done by the rhythm guitarist? IDK i havent seen the tab but I know trivium does a lot of that shit.

@SenorKaktus Get a program named Guitar Pro, and download the tab from his website in the link in the description. That has tabs and sheet music above it. So you can look at that

The song is meant to be played downstrumming. It doesn't sound right with alternate picking. The downstrumming gives it an aggressive sound that you can't really get alternate picking.

Just take it to your local guitar shop.Theyll prolly do it for pretty cheap. If you play a lighter string, make sure to tell them what guage if its not what your guitar came with standard.

The reason the solo is so hard to do is because it's actually three guitar tracks on the actual song. Main guitar, harmony guitar, and that nuts tap solo is its own track.

Great cover bro! But I don't think there is any odd slide/tapping transistions in the solo :( If you watch him play it live, he stays in one positon for the tapping.
It's just moving your hand quickly, Don't move your hand too far away from the string so right after you're done with the normal note you can move your hand back down quickly
You should think seriously about going pro man. If you can play the hell out of the guitar, then you're probably more than good enough to write your own rock masterpiece.
Oh trust me there are always mistakes in his videos.
But they're jst microscopic mistakes barely or not at all noticable but he still makes mistakes we all do including me.
