  • This is the dramatic moment the horse pulling Princess Beatrice into Royal Ascot got spooked and threatened to bolt.
    The princess was sat next to her husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi when the horse bucked and pulled at the reins, veering off path and towards the central lawn.
    Members of the crowd held their breath while the hora strained at the reins, threatening to jump or run off.
    But "expert handling" by the rider kept the horse from bolting, while it was unclipped from the procession, and Princess Beatrice's carriage.
    The incident happened on the final day of Ascot yesterday (18), and Beatrice was sat next to her husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi.
    An onlooker said: "As they started disembarking, one of the horses quite violently freaked out.
    "At one moment it looked like it was going to go into a barrier.
    "It was only incredible horsemanship from the young lady on the horse that stopped it."

      What else could she have been in that situation that wouldn't have made it worse? No point in getting cross with an animal that is obviously well trained (or it wouldn't be used for noisy, crowded public events of this sort) but has been frightened by something unusual - possibly stung as someone else suggested.

    wow ! I'm not knowledgeable about horses but can appreciate 🙏 their beauty, power and intelligence. Glad to read comments on this which said horse apparently got stung/bitten by something. ? No wonder it went crazy. When first saw video wondered why the only one with a rider went crazy (super visors gonna blame you. also cause you carrying 'roality')reality. I got even more concerned when camera close up shows that rider is a female so I'm thinking she really gonna get blamed, shit on by her 'employers '. Thanks to read the comments. THIS RIDER DID FANTASTIC JOB 👏- she somehow able to stay on and trying to deal with situation not knowing what issue with horse. Professional, well 👌 done my lady. ALSO ,seems other handlers around this carriage w 4 horses took action ,immediately and correctly . Well done 👏 everyone 👏 👍 is that horse 🐎 okay 👍

    • @laceandbits
      @laceandbits Год назад

      Are you implying that women are less good riders and horse handlers than men? Equine events are about the only ones where men and women compete on equal terms right up to and including the Olympics. There is no reason why the rider would get the blame for something like this, whether male or female. I'm sorry you live in a world where females are treated so unequally that you might think this.

  • @TheKira699

    The rider and on foot grooms handles these horses on the daily basis, and the harness on the outside horse (unsaddled) had moved over the rump and was in an uncomfortable position making him buck a bit and unsettling the mounted horse ending with the harnesses being removed.

    • @laceandbits
      @laceandbits Год назад

      I'm not sure this was the cause as we don't see where the ridden horse takes off, but if you go back to 0:37 just before the camera cuts away to the right, the ridden horse was already starting to buck but at this point the offside horse's harness is still in place. I suspect it was when the ridden horse bolted off to the left, that was when the harness was pulled over and aggravated the situation. What was impressive was how quickly that offside horse calmed down despite having been pulled around like that, and how he made no fuss about being unharnessed in a strange situation even though there were straps in places there shouldn't have been.

    I wonder if the rider was pulling too hard on the bit. Horse didn't look spooked, the horse was bucking and in the short bit of time that you could see, it looked like the horse's mouth was open, trying to avoid (pain from) the bit. Unless it is just a "bad habit," that generally arises from the horse being bothered by the bit. Those are pretty strong bits (okay, not the worst, and at least the horses don't have their tongues tied and their mouths cinched shut). I'm just wondering, since there doesn't seem to be real reason for the horse to "spook."

    • @laceandbits
      @laceandbits Год назад +1

      if you look at 0:37 you can see the first buck - until that point the horse had been perfectly calm.
      Why do non-horsy people always think that the bits cause horses pain. If they did horses wouldn't willingly accept wearing them or work as well and as willingly as they do for humans. The whole point of a bit is to guide the horse not to act as a handle for the rider to hold on with or to torture the animal. The gentler the bit is the more willing the horse will be. In normal circumstances the signal to stop comes from the balance and position of the rider, backed up by their legs, not by hauling on the bit as if it is a car's handbrake.
      Although is may look to you as if these ceremonial horses are wearing strong bits, both the front ones at least (and almost certainly all four) are being ridden/driven on a Liverpool driving bit, using a single rein and no curb chain. The rein is connected to the big ring at the bit giving minimum pressure to the mouth, especially in the hands of the experienced riders and drivers here. Even if the rein was connected to the bottom hole of the cheek piece, that would give leverage and some pressure behind the ears, not much extra pressure to the mouth and could not by any means be considered 'severe'
