I'm 56. I retired last year. I love it! But I also have the perfect financial situation.
That is awesome!
My hubby is retiring at the end of the summer from 29 years of public safety , we are very excited for the next chapter! ( We are 50 ). His job is very physically and mentally taxing, so it will be a relief to have a change of pace. we will both continue to work part time though for extra income. He will be getting a pension, which is pretty uncommon nowadays, which is very helpful.

Hubby was retired for 10yrs before I met full retirement age. I went back and forth whether to stop working. We went on a 3 day trip to Nauvoo, Il. As I stood at the bank of the Mississipi river, the thought came to me that it was time. I accepted the prompting and never regretted it. No debt and money in the bank so we are ok.❤
I'm 69 and when I was your age I was working and felt great. Now I like to work on little projects of my own but under no circumstances I would work again. I retired early at 63 and to me was the best decision I've made. I don't have a lot of money but I also don't have to deal with people and schedules.

63 isnt early. Early would be 40+ but those who retire that early usually go on to travel, do volunteer work or something they like.

@@user-lm9ev9pj2n it is a choice of words. Have you heard of FIRE? Financial Indepence Retire Early. For some of us Early means early in life. But I get that you define it differently. The Retirement Age differs from country to country. In mine it is 62. In some it is 60, in some 70. Over the years it has changed too,been pushed back. Used to be 55 in my dad's time.
I don't believe in the word retire. I do believe in being busy for the rest of my life. I stay busy with my ministry and making it to my meetings where I get encouragement....And i stay busy by those two things alone....But I do love my life which gives me a purpose if u know what I mean...😊😊😊
I don't doubt the aspects you shared however it sounds that you are the income earner in your household, therefore you have to work.
Many RUclips channels except for a few have been transparent about the RUclips earnings. You most likely earn quite a bit. Producing videos daily..
If you should decide to "retire ' at 67, regardless if you continue to work, social security will deduct from your earnings. There's no way around it.
At age 65, you will have to pay Medicare, there's no way around it, unless you opt out. In order to do that,you financially have to prove full medical coverage by your own means
financially.
So in essence, You have to work and it's an added benefit that you enjoy the three avenues of revenue.
Let's be realistic, more and more have to work beyond what age they thought they would.
Please don't omit this. It helps many when you are transparent above what you think and feel.
I've been retired for 6 years now due to disabilities etc.
I love not having to work full time anymore, and to be able to enjoy to the best of my abilities the daily small things in life. Going at my own pace, stopping to smell the roses. Being and talking with family and freinds. 💙💫💛💫💙
I have disabilities too and I'm only 51. My working every day days are over.

I agree - I'm 77 and have an eBay store with more than 2,500 items for sale. It's something I work on every day - helps me feel useful plus not only does it keep items out of the landfill, I earn good extra money 🙂 I can do from the comfort of my home and USPS is good enough to pick up the packages on my porch.

I am 65 I’m retired and I love it I worked since I was 16 38 years as a waitress I did cleaning for offices and homes and I have worked I retail ladies clothing! Things are not the same here anymore all retail is young ones I keep busy with things to do in my area! ❤❤glad to be retired no stress except for some health issues I love that ! 😊

That would be me. I retired from a faculty appointment at a university and have completed several certificates, a master and doctorate degrees. I’m in my 60s and I’m now learning to code and work with AI.
I had to retire 12 years ago after a work accident that I needed 4 surgeries and 2 years of physical therapy. I miss working. But I do what I can with taking care of my household, and some gardening etc.
my hubby is going to retire next year from his “9-5” but he’ll still work. He’s a builder by trade and he’ll be a handyman. Lol.
We live around a lot of Amish folks. They never retire. They cut back as they get older, but they still work 😊

Sometimes the stories of our lives can take an unexpected turn through no fault of our own. When people consider what their future looks like, it may be very different than what we envisioned it would be due to disability, job loss, downsizing, etc. Some people think that they will never retire, but when things change, they don't have a choice. That's the retirement reality for many.
Hello Dawn, retiring isn't for everyone. As long as a person loves their work, & have a good measure of health go for it. Enjoy each & every day. Love your videos. 😊

I'm a little older than you and am SO looking forward to being able to retire in about a year and a half at my full retirement age for SS. I have a grinding commute to a 9-5 in an accounting job. I'm about at my lifetime tolerance limit for "math all day". I have so many hobbies that I look forward to indulging more in in retirement, I want to be able to travel a little and also volunteer. I expect to be quite busy. I am never bored. I can always find some interesting activity.

I love you! You are a doll. And, as a nurse, let me tell you, many people retire--whether they like it or not, due to health events. My husband and I are in my 70s, both having lost our first spouse. We have wills, info sheets on each others cards and apps, and will work on burial and before long, clarify our long term care. No denial here. Slow but we are working on it!

Good point. I have seen many suddenly forced to retire due to health. The key is to be financially ready to retire anytime after 55.

65 years old. Retirement is NOT on my bucket list either.
I taught 30 years and just retired from working part time in elementary education for 20 years at age 72.
I enjoyed working with kids teaching reading remediation. I have worked since I was 16. I applied for a 1 day a week job where my spouse works. ❤
I certainly hope you feel well enough to work until you're 100. Certainly, anyone who employees you will be blessed. I hope you're able to do whatever makes you happy. There's no way I can physically work at age 72. Maybe part-time from home; but some days not even that. What many people don't realize is how many doctors' visits there are for even relatively healthy seniors. Now that we'll be caring for a more elderly person in our home, we'll have appointments practically every day, lol. Stay healthy! Love to all, Linda 💕
I "retired" from my office job at 30 to be a SAHM and bc I was burntout and miserable w no purpose. Took a year off, not really, started a Master's program but I'm a nerd and I LOVED going back to school. Classes were in the evening and I loved being home w my two children, cooking, cleaning, reading, watching youtube. However, I was THRILLED when I was asked to do my first freelance gig a year later. I think taking a year or two break after working full time is important for resetting our body and soul. Then we can attract what we enjoy doing.

I'm not retired but my boyfriend is and I can tell you you better have your roof fixed, all new appliances with warranties, stuff that might break down you like get a couple extra. Or money put a away.
I quit working in May of 2020 I made sure I had a new roof new furnace and air conditioning water softener and I bought a new refrigerator in October of 2020 all paid with cash. I also had new flooring and other things done before quitting work. I don't have a work pension but I do have a 401K Roth IRA and some CDs that are yielding good money right now I am able to live on my Social Security only and put 20% into the bank every month. I've got my paid for home in a trust so the nursing home can't take that and it's going to my daughter
For me, making plans for FUN and actually doing it must be a focus in life.Health is an issue to consider whether it’s yours or a loved ones. Make your choices based on the fact that time is NOT on your side- have some fun while keeping busy. Or make keeping busy the fun part of your day!

I was retired in my 20's and 30's to take care of my babies. Now I'll work as long as I can and hopefully leave something for my special needs child to have long term housing and care. I won't be retiring.

Retiring doesnt mean doing nothing. It means different things to different folks. I retired at 50 but as a landlord and investor I still " work" managing my assets.

From my experience, few people work beyond 70 even if they are in good health. Most employers won’t keep people or hire anyone once they are in their mid to late sixties. I’m 59 and I have family members 10 to 15 years older than me and none worked past 66 because of health issues and/or ageism.
Club Demonstration Services, which Costco uses for product and food sampling, has almost all over 65 workers. I have been doing it eleven yrs due to the flexibility. Sitting stools are allowed with Dr note. Just two days a week pays a lot of bills with the new wage.

We absolutely love retirement! It is the best! We still serve people by doing our RUclips Coffee Talks. We’ve always had a heart to serve and worked in ministry for many years. Life is not boring for us by any means. Everyone needs a purpose even in retirement.
Yes , I believe you will be the oldest YT er on earth. I still work a few hours a week , I think it's good for my health , it helps that I don't have a boss. 😅

I’m 72 and retired two years ago from the airlines. I’d love to get a job but I want to take off when I want to. Jobs aren’t going to let you just up and take off two weeks.
I had a good job with 7 weeks vacation time plus 12 holidays a yr. I worked for45 years there as well.

Like you..we’re both retired and live on SS..bring in $2,400 a month..thank goodness our home and vehicles are paid for..we try to save but never manage to save much but we enjoy the life we have..food on the table, clothes on our back and a roof over our head…we are more blessed than a lot of people!
I cannot wait to retire from my field of work but I will continue to keep busy...spending more time volunteering. My husband will retire in 2 yrs..I'll stay on for at least another to get use to the transition of him retiring! So many people retire too early and then regret it. On the flip side, older folks with great work pensions should retire to make room for the younger generations to fill. If you don't need the money, there's plenty of part time jobs & things that can be done to keep busy. Our minimum wage here is now $17.20 an hour.

I do not plan on retiring unless I have to for health reasons.
Two months ago I was laid off after a 32 year career. I do have severance until June 2025. This allows me to start my dream career of being a travel advisor. I have been training and will be open for business in a week or two.
I also LOVE RUclips. I have had a channel for 9 years and I still enjoy it. I am creating a 2nd channel for my new business. Like you, I would like to have a channel as long as I am around on this earth. 🤗

I was told once by a very wise coworker. Retire means expire. You need to stay busy with something.
I had to go on permanent disability which I had to take after an injury. I wish I could work. You are amazing with fabulous energy! Keep on doing what you love!

What retirement, I have too many irons in the fire, especially when a close friend/husband passes away, too many headaches, just decided to take one day at a time, that is all we can do, I wanted to move, but its so bad out there, I don't even know where I would move too, love you Dawn, I will keep watching your videos as long as I'm able to. cheers

Sometimes the unexpected happens, or it creeps up on you while you keep adapting, and the day comes when it is TIME to reduce hours or retire fully. Everyone has a different life unfold before them, a lot of it unplanned and beyond our control. Your money management skills will always protect you. Much love, Money Mom.

I'm 47 & i don't think I'll ever be able to retire which scares me. I try to save for retirement but something expensive always comes up. I paid off my car last month & this month i had $900 in car repairs. I feel like I take one step forward then 2 steps back. The silver lining is that i am debt free so hopefully things will get better & i will be able to save more. 😌

Five reasons you can't retire: Number one reason is living in an HOA*. 2. Mortgage, 3. property tax, 4. children in university, 5. no pension. Good reasons to not retire: You have a mission in life, You're still productive, such as artists. So, good health and people who need you to keep doing what you do. But remember it's important to retire TO something, not from something. If you lack purpose, you'll wane away. That's why people used to die within two years of retirement.
*HOAs are worse than vampires for sucking the life's blood out of you. They are the most likely to call a homeowner a squatter, and all the new squatter laws will give them even more power for doing so.

Hey Dawn..I LOVE watching you on UTUBE and hope to see you here for many years to come..❤ Also, you remind me so much of my Mom. She worked well into her late 70's and did product demo's! Like yourself, she loved being around people and enjoyed her job. Unfortunately, she had to give it up because my Dad became disabled and required 24/7 care. If not, I believe she would have worked until she was 90 when she passed.

The RUclips goal is one that you can attain. Have you ever seen Depression Cooking with Clara. She made videos with her grandson until she was about 98 years old. She truly made you feel like part of the family. My husband and I are retired. We stay very busy but I do miss going to work. I always enjoyed the interaction with customers.

We moved to an urban area to give ourselves a lot more outdoor space that we are using for a massive garden. We are selling our excess produce for a small income, and producing all that we can eat of many vegetables. ( green beans, tomato's, peppers, squash, melons, ground cherries, tomatillo, greens, herbs, radish, turnip, giant leeks, sweet potato, sunflower seeds) and at least some of many others like garlic, potato, onions and shallots.
Why? One reason is we are looking towards retirement. We are comfortable, but we have watched family members retire, sit on the couch watch TV all day and basically just stop doing anything.
When you stop using your brain and body you eventually get sick and die. I'm not saying that being engaged in meaningful guarantees a long life, but it does help make the most of what you have. A moving body is a healthier body. The same goes for the mind. Use it or lose it.

I started working at age 14, and worked nonstop, sometimes with 2 jobs so I retired 40 yrs later. I used my extra time to earn several degrees including a doctorate. Now when I’m surprised with an unanticipated expense like 100k medical bill, I can work as a consultant. But I spend most of my time caring for others.

Nope, not for me. We love our free time and nothing we do costs us much. We retired at 55 and have reduced pensions as we took them early. There's so much more to life than earning more money when we have enough.
I agree. And many people equate retiring with doing nothing or being bored. I do not understand that! Working just to have something to do seems boring to me. There are 1001 things to do!

I'm sure I've commented this before. I heard it once and it stuck with me. 60s are the go-go years, 65 is slow-go years and 70s are the no-go years. That was in terms of activity and travel. The description of aging in the later years. I've seen it to be true with people I've known. I believe in supernatural health though. Meaning that God supplies our strength and health apart from normal aging in the natural. I pray he gives you a long productive life and the desires of your heart Dawn!
My husband and I have talked about this. I want to be able to enjoy our retirement years in our late 50s into our 60s, travel etc. By the late 60s/early 70s, most people are slowing down. They may have some health issues or are dealing with mobility issues or chronic pain with makes travel or enjoying hobbies difficult.
My own parents took a noticeable downhill turn around 70 and by 75 were moving out of their home into a care facility. Their health fell off a cliff in their 70s, even though they were healthy and extremely active people up until that point. I know each person is different and will age at a different pace. There was no way my parents would have been able to work at that stage in their life. Luckily, they had retired and had traveled the world and had done all their retirement bucket list before that point. For us personally, we have planned to fully retire by 58. After working for 35 years in corporate America, we will run and never look back!

I've seen a number of healthy active people decline quickly around the age of 70. When you think about it, we have a short life with only 365 days in a year.

I'd retire tomorrow if I could. I've disliked working since I got my first full time job at 17. I'm 55 now and I worry about having enough money to retire.
You can retire you just need to spend less and maybe go to food pantry if you need even,if it's just once a week or for specific items.
Remember Al will get social security too.
I worked until I was 70. I enjoyed working. But my health deteriorated a little. It became impossible for me to continue to work. I miss working everyday.

i know this is off topic but I remember a while back you did a video on things you splurged on , i said root touch up spray , which is now going for $10 and up ,, so crazy !!! well was in dollar tree yesterday and they had a brand of root touch up for 1.25 !!!! bought two cans , it is a little bit mess in that you spray it on have to wait a few mins to dry but it does the job , yes if you rub on it with your hand a little of it will come off but for 1.25 vs $10 or $11 dollars it's a great deal , i think you said you use this product too so wanted to share

I think working at something that you enjoy that you can do on your own terms is a good choice. Having a physically or emotionally taxing job with a lot of deadlines and stress and feeling like there is no way out, is a whole other thing. Having a side gig, hobbies, volunteering, time with friends and family. I think that sounds like a lovely retirement. Unfortunately, many people do not have the energy and stamina once they hit their 60s and beyond. Age has a funny way of creeping up on us! I look forward to no work in retirement! But I hope to keep busy with hobbies and some travel.

Best to have a plan just in case. I had to leave nursing at 53 after a major spine surgery left me with nerve damage in one leg. When my husband was 57 he had a work injury which left him in a leg brace and a lot of hardware in his neck. He did manual labor, so that was the end for him. We didn’t plan to retire till age 66. Have a plan. We manage, but we certainly don’t have the funds we planned. I had no pension. His is minimal. It is what it is.

I admire your creativity and attitude! My only suggestion for this video is when you consider retiring take a hard look at your tax situation. Now, I think that Texas doesn't have a personal state income tax (correct me on that, please), but if you continue to earn above a certain amount after you retire you might get thrown into a higher tax bracket. This is exactly what happened to my friend -- like you, she just couldn't imagine not working. But as she approached age 65 she got some good advice from a CPA -- working would actually COST her more in taxes! Now, I'm just sharing this anecdotally -- I am certainly not a tax professional, AT ALL. Just food for thought. Cheers!

Something to keep in mind - just in case - of illness, disability, etc. is a reverse mortgage. It may benefit you greatly as it has me.

Reverse mortgages are not a very great product together involved in, I was told.

I have my nest egg and am eligible for survivor benefits which would allow my ss to increase. I’m going to continue to work since I’m making great money in a no stress job. I have enough time for travel and other activities. Working gets me out of the house. I stay out of the politics too. It pays health insurance so I will just continue to work for now.

So what is your plan for if a health issue prevents you from continuing to work?
My father had a massive stroke at 61. No way he could work again physically or mentally.
I appreciate everyone's optimism about working and heavy gardening in old age. But what's your fallback? Expect your grown children to take care of you? I'm in that situation. Taking care of mom in her 80s is preventing me from providing for my old age. No children to fall back on. Just hoping that I don't live to 80.
