I want to get rid of card debt in the next 7 months and stop using the card almost completely. I have only owned for the last year and a half and I shopped more than usual. I was raised in a card less society and where everything is bought with cash (in stores, to buy houses/build houses, pay tuition, buy cars etc). I’m African and most countries there are still mostly using cash only. It makes you have discipline, respect your money, delay gratification, and if you can’t afford things you won’t be able to buy it 😊
You can do it! I would suggest getting rid of the credit card altogether and use a debit card that comes out of your checking account. A debit card has all of the same protections and can do all of the things that a credit card does. You have seen the credit cards can be dangerous and with the interest rates going up, it would be amazing if you could stop using one altogether! Blessings to you! Tracy
This is rather basic but being summer , I make sure to have a variety of ice creams and toppings to avoid going to an icecream stand and paying the cost of a half gallon for one cone !!
I am working on paying my mortgage only 50k. Every month, I put an extra 500 towards the principal. Last year, I came into some money (class action). I put it all 3k towards my mortgage principal.
Good job & great tips! I’m like you. I cannot function well in a cluttered or unattractive environment! Decluttering & simplifying saves your sanity and saves you money😊
Hey Jennifer, I hope you and the family are well 🙏 Me and my partner recently sold our house and were able to clear quite substantial debt that had built up over the years due to adverse life circumstances. We were really struggling on a basic level to not only pay rent & bills but eat aswell. Now we are debt free it is a huge relief and we will never get into debt again. We are still trying to live frugal but have no budget as yet, tbh I'm not quite sure where to start but I know that tracking your spending and budgeting is the best way forward 🤗
Can you do a video about budgeting for your kids birthdays and Christmas? I feel like I always go overboard. The last year I've been trying to focus on quality over quantity and avoid buying something if I think it'll end up donated within a year. I have a 4 month old boy and a 5 year old girl.
Having a paid off house makes like cheaper. But we don’t waste money on stuff that isn’t improving us. Plus there is always things that break or come up
Hi Jennifer. I totally agree with you about paying down debt: with that said 🎉🎉i just paid off my lil truck🎉🎉 and paid off the credit cards 🎉🎉 and cut them all up except one and that put away where I won’t bother with it unless it’s an emergency… not having all those little “drive me crazy” debts is going to take us towards next year with only o e bill to pay and be able to make the move to where we want to be… We had made the same mistake when we were in our 20’s with cards and overspending on un-necessary items….
I have already paid off a few credit cards and have one left. I am eager to get rid of our medical debt next and seems daunting at time. However I am just working one day at a time and utilizing my work benefits to save money! Good benefits has helped me get some home improvement items and tools for our home.
Love your video, as usual. I hope you and your family are having a wonderful summer. The temps have been terribly hot here in Tennessee, but summer is still my favorite season!
I love fresh, hot coffee. My hubby bought Kurig reusable K-cups. They're plastic and come as a 6-pack. I can change up the coffee flavors depending on which grounds are on sale. It's so cheap, and i dont have to make a pot of coffee. 😊
Only allowing myself to shop at Costco once a month, has saved me a lot of money. If I need anything the rest of the month, I buy only what I need. Also Amazon once a month for what is needed.
Can you please put a link to a youtube video to do a gente work out with weight? I want to become healthier and as a working mum I've been neglecting my fitness. You're a great example to me. You look healthy and radiant.
Love your videos and your simple, open, down-to earth manner. There's a thing or two to be said about common sense, and one's - it should always be in. :) Keep up the good work. I was wondering, would you mind telling who is the YT-ber whose exercises you watch?
We live really close to Charleston and have been to Isle of Palms it’s very nice place! We also live close to mountains too! We live in SC close to NC line, between Rock hill and Lancaster, in a small town called Fort Lawn! I thought it was interesting you mentioned Charleston and Isle of Palms!! ❤
My best way to save is to GET RID OF THE CAR. This is drastic, I know; but overall if you are without children, you can easily purchase a bicycle or two (or a tandem bike if you really love your spouse) and just use that. You give up some time that the car would have bought you, but you save way more money not having to spend 500 dollars a month on a car note plus insurance. Not to mention you are getting exercise!
We're retired but my hubby and I carried our own lunches to work for 30+ years. A conservative estimate of $5 a day for each of us comes to a savings of over $100,000!! That saved money invested with compound interest would be much more ... not to mention the health benefits! Some think it's nerdy but take your own lunch!!!
I rarely go out to eat anymore because the prices are too high and the portion size is shrinking. For those nights when you just don’t want to cook I will pick things up at the supermarket deli. It’s half the cost of going out to eat and yet someone else cooked it. I also get to determine the portion size. Again I do this rarely but it’s a little treat to me.
Hey girl heyyyyy!! Happy weekend!!! I’m 40 and to rock the white hair!! 😂 ever since hair salons shut down in 2020, I’ve lost my desire for the 4-6 week touch up. My students always ask me, “how old ARE you??? Why do you have WHITE hair?!?!” 👩🏼🦳 I call it “affordable platinum” 😂
It's become too expensive to go to the hairdressers for a colour. I'm going to see what mine is like growing out as I have a lot of grey hairs and I'm used to being blonde. Going to see and if I don't like it buy a home dye. Tell your students the white hairs are wisdom highlights!
I haven’t died my hair in 11 months. I have had blonde highlights for years. The way it’s growing out it looks balayage. Wish I had done it sooner! My hair is healthier now too.
I totally agree about restaurant quality having gone downhill since Covid, along with massive price increases. We used to go out for everybody's birthday celebrations, anniversary, etc. Now, forget it. We let the birthday person pick out what they want for a celebratory meal and cook it at home! Once in a while we treat ourselves (usually during lunch), but not nearly as often. For anyone on the fence about budgeting - it is definitely worth it. We now know where our money is going (no more 'having more month than money'), and we are squeaking out larger chunks all the time to pay down debt. Never, ever would've happened without budgeting. -Harriet G.
This might seem like a no brainer for others but I finally wrote down a list of extra expenses to pay by the month so I can add them to that month's budget and plan for them such as car insurance, annual vet bills, a/c service, car registration and quarterly pest control.
I know you previously were going to change the direction of this channel because you said there's only so many things you can talk about regarding frugality without being repetitive, so you weren't as interested in the topic... I'd suggest doing some episodes about teaching kids about finances, using examples from your own life with your daughter -- like how do you actively pass on your own money values to her?
Jennifer I always split the upcoming bills into monthly payments in my savings account. Thus when for example my insurance bill comes up I would have the money saved for it. No stress at all especially when the income is limited.
One of the things that has really helped me not just declutter but also save money is be part of freecyling group in my city. If i need to give something away, put it on the group. At times, i ask for some thing i need and i have got it. there are times people have offerred some good items and i have claimed it. Few of the things i got is - a good bag, bluetooth speaker, music CDs, books, etc.I also watch stuff on RUclips. Since you can download some videos, i use that option. Have watched movies for free on RUclips. Also i am a bookworm but i am on budget. so i download free classic books and other free books on my kindle. I also visit book sales that sell mostly used books. Have got many books for dirt cheap price.
Yes, I can’t think when my house is cluttered! I get irritable and snippy and I hate it. We are still working on getting our kids to keep things picked up and clean, but getting rid of stuff has helped this! Garage sale! 💵
I save money by following the 7 Baby steps. My goal is to complete all seven steps, so I make a budget each month and do not use a credit card, and aim to live below my means. I am debt free except for the mortgage.
We have recently cut back on electric use. The heat wave has been significant and the HVAC is running non stop. I have set the indoor temperature at 79 degrees and am running the ceiling fans on high. With the ceiling fans on high, there has not been a noticeable difference in feeling cool inside of the house ;compared to the high 90s outside. I have also unplugged the tv’s as to avoid fathom electricity use which also adds to the electric bill - heard it was as high as 3% (not sure that is accurate- but heard another RUclipsr state that stat). Lights are off when not in a particular room. This evening we plan on adjusting our hot water heater because there’s no need during g the summer for such a hot shower! Hoping these measures will help bring my electric bill back in line. Last month’s electric bill was a shock and caused me to take these “drastic” measures!
I love listening to your videos each week! One thing I thought of as I’m sitting on my nice deck, listening to the birds… We invested in some couch covers. They are awesome. They snug tight to the couch and they have enabled us to save money by not wanting to buy a new couch. I wonder if it might be a useful idea to give Money spending ideas that will save us money.
Tressa, that is fantastic! I am sitting here working on next week's video, and this is a great example for another tip I had. I will shout out to you for this great idea in my next video! Thank you 🤗

We live in SC and we go down to Charleston for day trips :-) We are still payoff debt mainly student loans and its nice to have that close for a getaway since vacations are minimal right now. And we usually travel with a few ice water filled reusable bottles of water and snacks in the car! Love these tips!
One idea which I Learned from another couple id enter to win in radio and TV contests. Once I won tickets to see Swan Lake in Peoria and had a nice night out with my mother in-law. Our husbands are not interested in ballet.
I just got back from a vacation. I drove a 2021 Toyota Sienna for 4572 miles. I spent $450 dollars for 188 gallons of gas. I will always have a Sienna. Best investment I have made on a car.
Congratulations Jennifer for sticking to your plans and getting your mortgage paid off and of course congrats also to your husband. Well done both of you. Your little girl has a more secure future for one thing and you have built in security for yourselves as well in case of illness or wanting to change jobs or careers or whatever.... endless possibilities which can arise especially since you are all so young. I've loved your channel since my first days on you tube and continue to enjoy your videos. Thank you for all your hard work. Love Vera in Northern Ireland ❤❤❤
Please could you explain what is meant by the “Alternative news channels” you watch on tv, could you give examples that might be good to try. Are they on RUclips, for example or… Many thanks for great content, as always ❤
I weigh everything! Measure out dry pasta/rice/lentils per person, dressing servings, peanut butter tablespoons, chopped tomatoes, I note the 250ml mark on a patterned glass so I always pour only 250ml without faffing around with measuring jugs. I have certain spoons that I already know how much they scoop so again simpler than using separate measuring spoons. That way I make a food/beverage last longer and don’t cook too big a portion and stay a bit trimmer.
Dear Jennifer, Recently discoverd your channel; love your content! There are things I've already been doing for years and new things I haven't thought about. I have always been happy with a simple life. I do well at some things and am working to do better on others. For example, I have never had cable, eat out very little, family hair cuts & enjoy doing things at home. Working harder at becoming debt free, tracking and budgeting. Thanks for your support and great ideas! Best Always ~ Lori ~🤑🥰
The best advice I ever got was to know how much money I can use per day on food (not to say I have to use all of it). Up until then, I was buying food ‘in chunks’, without knowing if I had enough for the rest of the month. I usually didn’t. I totally get the advantages of mealplanning but I live alone, and I don’t like to plan my meals beforehand. Maybe I don’t want meatloaf on Wednesday or even that week at all, even though I planned for it - and then I’m stuck with the ingredients all of a sudden
I loved how you could barely talk about fast food/gas station food 😂 that is such a big one!! I'm curious about what you are working towards now, financially, now that your mortgage is paid off? Thank you for this channel, I am learning so much and love your videos!
My tips are how to spend more and not worry about saving. This is no joke. Being frugal is a double-edged sword. On the one hand, saving for retirement requires some frugality, the issue becomes not being willing to spend it when you really are able to do so. The mind set is the lack of abundance. Which is great for those who get to inherit what you have sowed. I see it all the time.
As far as cars are concerned I go for longevity not fuel efficiency. Gas prices rise and fall all the time however if a car is constantly broke down or on recall it cost me money, time is money.
Eating out isn't special if you do it all the time. We usually eat out once a month at a restaurant where we know the food is great and eat things I don't cook at home. My son told me one of his friends goes to the pizzeria we occasionally go to every week and doesn't appreciate it like we do!
I find eating out doesn’t always provide the same nourishment and fulfillment as a meal cooked at home. It’s still fun to do every now and then, especially on a night I want a break from preparing a meal. Jennifer - what are your favorite or go-to easy and affordable meals to prepare?
Care to share the workout channel? I work out through YT for free as well, including weights/kettlebell (bonus frugality points if you get your equipment used for free/cheap). Some of my favorite workout channels are Bodyfit by Amy, Team Body Project, BurpeeGirl, and Kaleigh Cohen Strength.
I enjoy watching your videos. You are relatable and you‘re never trying to sell stuff. 😊
Thank you so much! 🤗
I love your simplicity, real-life examples, and honesty!
Bridgette, thank you so much ❤️

I’m African and most countries there are still mostly using cash only. It makes you have discipline, respect your money, delay gratification, and if you can’t afford things you won’t be able to buy it 😊
That is a great goal! When you put a time frame to it, then you are likely going to stay focused and do it faster. You can do this! 🤗
You can do it! I would suggest getting rid of the credit card altogether and use a debit card that comes out of your checking account. I love our deck not fancy, fancy but love that it is there. We sit out in the mornings and drink our coffee. Heavenly. Thank you ❤
Same here! I sleep directly on my deck; no chair/lounge. It is a second story deck off the master......heaven
Great information. It's so encouraging to see a young family with the priorities you have.

Thanks Jennifer 🤗 & yes an updated budget tips video would be very much appreciated 👍😀
Congratulations on paying off your debt and for the great tips you are giving us keep up the great work you are doing and stay frugal
I make large meals 3lbs of meat or chicken, with rice & veggies. Usually, I use slow cooker or airfryer. I only cook 2 days a week.
Over priced and undertasty is one for the books😂

Yes. You will have more equity and less interest.

Yeah.. I went gray at 21. Not ready for that. But I dye it myself and pay $8 every 6 weeks instead of $75+.
Good advice! Thanks for being the voice of reason!
What do you do about relatives that borrow money! I feel bad to say no! They do pay back but is it selfish to say no when they know you have it!
Congratulations Jennifer! Well done!
Very good advice. I like how you share ways to save. I am a homebody too.
Reusable baby food pouches! Great for apple sauce, especially.
❤❤❤😮😮😮😊😊😊
Jennifer, love your videos. Keep 'em coming!
May I ask where you purchase your necklace?
Yes eating out isn’t as good as it was
I find eating out doesn’t always provide the same nourishment and fulfillment as a meal cooked at home. It’s still fun to do every now and then, especially on a night I want a break from preparing a meal.
Jennifer - what are your favorite or go-to easy and affordable meals to prepare?
I agree! With meals, I am trying to stay with as many whole foods as I can. I really keep it super basic.
I love your channel
Cheryl, thank you so much!
I put my groceries or costco list on my Memo Pad Notes on my Samsung phone. As soon as I see I'm low, I put it on my list.
Thank you 😊 always love your channel and ideas dear Jennifer
Yes when it’s cluttered i can’t focus or think
Very nice
What workout channel do you like?
Hi there! I have been doing watching Caroline Girvan and doing the Iron Series workouts she has.
@@THEJENNIFERCOOK thank you!
I dont understand the homebody thing. The other tips are good
Some people are introverts some are extroverts. It’s for some not for others.
