It’s taken me 16 years but I finally got this scene out of the blue yesterday - he misses her desperately - the taste of this drink brings her close to him - it’s all he has left. Heartbreaking 😢
This is a near direct quote from the novel Casino Royale (chapter seven): "A dry martini," he said. "One. In a deep champagne goblet." "Oui, monsieur." "Just a moment. Three measures of Gordon's, one of vodka, half a measure of Kina Lillet. Shake it very well until it's ice-cold, then add a large thin slice of lemon-peel. Got it?" QoS gets better with each viewing. It borrows from the novels. The ending is from the Fleming short story 007 in New York.
And Mathis was there when he ordered it in the casino. So when he says Kina Lillet it’s because he recognised the cocktail and made that connection in his head. He doesn’t know the name and the full meaning, but he knows that he made it up around the time when he began to fall for vesper.
I’ve watched this scene so many times, but it’s only now dawned on me that when Mathis says “Kina lillet” at the same time as the bartender, he realises that Bond is drinking a ‘Vesper’.
"No it will just keep me awake" When i was very young and i saw this scene i didnt understand what mathis mean. I would think "alcohol is a depressant!" Now i get what he means.
I just gotta say, this movie gets way too much flak. It might be the most in-depth character study of James Bond and the script is almost unparalleled. Reads like a damn good play and I’ll stand by that 👏
Starting from Nov 22 i got like this scene not so match but exact match like it every night every day think like his ways start from 00:00 till 00:06 try to now am I wright or wrong ?

damnn I’m only realising this after reading this comment and someone else’s, I never tried digging deeper into this scene until now
Bond knows damn well what he’s drinking, but he doesn’t want to say the name

As I got older, this has become one of my favourite scenes in all of Bond.
Same here. Although I am sorry it is not a little bit longer. You can feel they have much more to tell each other.

Agreed. It’s aged well and is beautifully shot. Loads of good desert scenes.
you can almost feel bonds internal rage the whole movie
Well said, it’s got its flaws but they are outweighed by its positives; it sits well in the arc.
This scene had a big impact on me
The accounting team back at MI5: "Sorry, why are we spending so much on gin? were a government organisation, not a gentlemens club"
All the writers were on strike and they delivered this scene...
That's like 2 bottles of pure spirits, this man needs help and a stomach pump
It's only one bottle. I drink half that every day.
@@Chris.starfleet you also need help 😂
@@Chris.starfleet Continue the good work;)
It's Bond, his liver is military grade.
Love this Scene Daniel for me is the best Bond by far
Heartbreaking scene
Let it go
Six?
How is he upright by now????
Try it 👍 it's a good combo 😋 but seemingly one shouldn't shake Lillet with gin 🤔

What do you mean?
The most blatant product placement
The description for the Vesper is taken straight from the books. So in a way yes, but not really.
@@horrorfanandy4647 Also, Kina Lillet doesn't exist anymore, so a product placement for an extinct aperitif.
@@jaycee330 True.
Quintaluna........is that what he's saying?
kina lillet
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lillet
Which isn't even made anymore, if this is 21st Century Bond.
No sound from the airplane?...
You don't hear the hum in the backround?
