  • THE AUSTRIAN ALPS!! In this video we take the Smaragdbahn lift in Bramberg and toboggan 14km down the mountain. Winter Wonderland in the Dolomites (CANNOT believe this is Northern Italy!!!)! BUT, we ended up on a VERY SMALL bunny hill and didn't really get the experience.
As you'll see in this video, we had an absolute BLAST and now understand why Europeans absolutely love tobogganing! Not going to lie though, we were VERY surprised at how bumpy the run was, and how fast the sleds went!!

@@OurStorytoTell I'm also a bit confused with the English terms of sleigh, sled, sledge or toboggan. In German we have only 1 term for everything: "Schlitten". If you wanna differentiate, you can add some specification to it like "Hornschlitten", "Pferdeschlitten" or "Rodelschlitten".
A Toboggan should not have runners (Kufen), as I understand it. But I'm probably wrong.

@@thkempe Toboggan: A long flat-bottomed light sled made usually of thin boards curved up at one end with usually low handrails at the sides. The origin of the word toboggan is from Native American words for "sled". The indigenous roots make sense as the tradition of the toboggan came out of northern Canada as a means of transportation across the vast Canadian wilderness. Many Americans use the words toboggan or sled interchangeably even though they technically mean different things.

So beautiful! Willas ski expression reminds me of our oldest daughter. My husband and I really enjoy skiing and wanted our first child to also learn skiing as soon as possible. But what a disappointment - she was not amused 😆 because it was so exhausting. But one or two years later we tried again and she had a lot of fun. When I was a child we also did toboggan runs and it always was one of my favourite parts of winter: not having to carry the sledge myself all way up and enjoy a very long run down!! Amazing views! Looking forward to the next videos ☺. Have a great time!

12:23 That is called "Einkehrschwung". Take a break from skiing and get your body fueled up. (not with octane but proof) "Einkehr" = "go in" and "Schwung" is referring to doing a curve on skis. So you take a curve (away from the slope) into the restaurant/bar to have some fun (aka alcohol). And when it gets dark you do the rest of the run down into the valley.
Not really a safe practice but very common as you can see by the many toboggans outside the "Hütte".

Great to see that you all had a lot of fun. Not sure who had the most of you but I guess the biggest kid, Tanner(as he loves toboggan rides). I think he is ready once to go for a more specific as a guest in a 4 or 8 man bob slide in Berchdesgaden, Oberhof or Altenberg or Winterberg. Well, would have been more funny with much more snow. Ohh, mumys baby girl on skis. Hope she will find out that will be fun as well. Waiting for your second part while you have been to Krimmel. Stay safe and healthy. CU

She (my firstborn) is now all grown up and has made me a grandfather a couple of times over, she is approaching 50 and has a PhD (she was precocious as well). Probably because she didn't enjoy the skiing, is my guess. XD I was about that age when my dad first put me on skies and when he went down the hill with me in front of him / between his legs, I thought he was trying to get us killed, haha.
But it gets better with age. Skiing is quite exhausting and a bit frustrating for toddlers because it takes strength and balance. Later we all had a lot of fun. :)
