Great little guitar, we've reviewed it as well. I kept it because it's the only offset that I own and I like having a well rounded collection.
I really like it, it’s definitely a keeper!
Very nice and thorough review. Looks and sounds great! Love your playing. The shades helped. Thanks.
Edit: Also, baby! Who knows... In a few years, you could get them hooked on phonics and guitars!
Snagged mine off ebay for less than half of sticker price ( not a scratch or even a blemish on her). The tuners were changed to Wilkinsons and the pickups were changed to grey bottom plug in's along with upgraded wiring and cap. All the original parts came with it as well. I gotta admit, I was definitely not expecting the quality and sound for the money. Definitely a keeper. Nice playing by the way.
Thanks! This one was a huge surprise to me, for sure. I will be gigging it soon!
Thanks for the Superb video, and that outro was rockin! Subscribed !
Thank you so much! I seriously appreciate it :)
Great vid.just ordered mine on Amazon an hour ago.$119 w/free shipping..if you watch this video.and like the guitar.get it now before Amazon raises the price, than you can upgrade to these Hotrail basically for free..I'm already planning to repaint mine a metallic blue sparkle with matching headstock, and of course change the strings..great video, sweet smokey the bear hat and willy Wonka glasses!!
Haha thank you so much! Enjoy your new budget beast of a guitar!
Great video! Im planning on doing the same mod on mine, so this vid vas very helpful as this is my first time replacing pickups :)
Awesome, this is a fantastic mod platform and I’m very happy with how it turned out!
Thanks for a good demo of a fine guitar! I've had mine for most of a year I guess. It's one of Very few guitars I've bo't new that required ZERO set up. And I'm purt fussy about low, action, Smooth frets, blah blah. I do all that stuff myself. I have never even changed the strings. They are evidently good quality. So I'm really impressed. I've changed pups on a few guitars, always with pricier replacements. I was really disappointed every time because there was NO discernable difference. I say the amp is 100% of guitar sound. But you wound up with a better looking IYV than original and of course it is a terrific instrument. You're a much better player than I could ever hope to be.
Thank you so much, that means a lot to me! I love this guitar and was shocked that the action was set perfectly and that the frets weren’t sharp.
@@BigJakeMusic yeah SAME!! Unprecedented in a cheap guitar.
Thanks For Sharing 🎸 💪
Thanks!
Sounded pretty good original, even better with mods.
Thank you!! I really like this guitar, and I agree. It would have been just fine left stock, but I have a hard time leaving my guitars alone 🙈
@@BigJakeMusic I like the pool rout, HH loaded pickguard dropped in. Dimensionally, would a pickguard & chromed steel control from Fender/Squier Mustang ? That was the only thing I disliked of the IYV, the Strat like 100% pickguard. I think the mods I would've made with the stock IYV., HH's & the control panel. Unless the on/off switches change the phase or serial/parallel, those probably are gone too for a single 3 way toggle switch.
I was going to swap the switches for 3-ways for phase switching, but I ended up keeping it stock. There are a ton of possibilities with this guitar and it’s hard to decide what to do, especially when it’s so good stock!
I have this guitar and replaced the switches with three way versions. My front selects neck/both/bridge and the rear switch does phase and dark. Be aware that the stock switches are physically smaller than your standard mustang switch, no prob for me bc I replaced the pickguard.
That's great! Now yours is more like a traditional Mustang. I love this guitar and it might be the best value on the market right now for new guitars.
Right now I'm currently piecing some parts together to modify this guitar that I have right now I need to replace the guitar bridge tune o matic cuz for some reason is missing a little bolt I tried looking for one in different hardware stores and I figure if getting on Amazon that I found it so I might get that I'm also thinking of getting a pick up I'm thinking about either keeping it or replacing it with the hot rail pickup but since I don't know how to do wiring I'm not sure how to do so so I'm thinking about it
Sweet video man. Excited to receive one of these soon in a trade. Couple questions that I didn't hear if you answered them -- do you know if the holes for tuning pegs the 'modern' bigger holes or smaller 'vintage' style. With hex nuts with on the tuners I'm guessing modern. Other thing, do you think you could get away with a Duo Sonic guard? Not scurred of drilling a few pickguard screw holes.
I'm honestly not sure; the tuning pegs look to be the same size as a standard Strat-sized tuning peg. I'm not sure about the Duo-Sonic pickguard. I'd imagine a Mustang pickguard would fit though!
Sweet. Mustang guard it might be then, I'd greatly prefer that anyhow actually. And I see what you did there w the sunglasses my friend !!!!!
Thanks, it certainly was intentional 😎
Hey Jake, very nice video. Not sure how I found you here, except that I also own the ISMF-200. Those new hot rails make a huge difference, and now, I want. What are they and where did you get them? Again, great job, and keep on doing it. . .Matt
Thank you! They are from Amazon. The exact product name is sort of long, but it’s “Musiclily Hot Rails Humbucker Strat Pickup Single Coil Size for Fender Stratocaster Squier Electric Guitar, Black Body with Black Rails”.
They don’t come as a pair, so I bought two of them for this guitar.
I know it’s a long name, but if you search that on Amazon you’ll find it! Thanks again for watching :)
If I may add a suggestion, try Dragonfire pickups. I have a set of rails in a project I built and they sound like a mix of warm/gritty/power if that's any type of description. Humbuckerage in a single coil slot.
I’ve heard some great things about Dragonfires. I’ll check them out!
Quick question, I need an opinion! So, I recently acquired and reviewed an Epiphone SG standard(inspired by Gibson model, 2020). But more recently I acquired something much better that renders it somewhat redundant(review on that one soon). Would it be sacrilege in the highest degree to put rails in the SG?? I know Angus has one made for Donington in 81(the Jaydee SG). I’m tempted!
Where did you get the knockoff bigsby from ? And how much..any good ? Im looking to add one but at a cheaper cost.
I got a knockoff bigsby on Amazon very cheaply. I believe it was less than 30 dollars!
Just my opinion… I think the stock pickups sounded better than the modified.
I think the stock pickups are amazing, for sure. Sometimes I wish I’d left it stock. I changed the pickups to make it sound fatter and grungier, which could also be termed “muddy” :P
Dude thanks for video I found that guitar at a local discount store well obviously it's one of the worst guitars due to the fact that the strings need to be replaced and all that I would like to modify this guitar to be similar to yours but since I don't know how to modify I'm going to have to ask the guitar center to see if they can modify the guitar for me good work on your modify guitar sound better then the stock at least I know a thing or two but I have no experience with modifying guitars
Don’t let the bad strings fool you into thinking a guitar is bad. My number one piece of advice for all guitarists: change the strings on ANY guitar you buy immediately, new or used. Even the big brands can put cheap strings on a good guitar. And, even if the factory strings are good quality, they have been packed, shipped, and sometimes put on the sales floor. The strings should always be the very first thing to be done on any guitar. I think this guitar is amazing stock. I only modified it because I like the sound of hot rails, but the stock single coils were very nice and sometimes I regret swapping them out!
@@BigJakeMusic I was even going to ask if you could modify it for me because there are some things that need replacing obviously the tuning, strings and the pickups not to mention the little thing that's holding the strings not a screw but the thing that's holding the screw it's missing I don't know how that happened I don't really consider this as a serious guitar even though it's awesome in a way because I found it for 85 bucks which is really cheap it does need some cleaning but I consider this as a good guitar including a practice guitar because I have a fender Stratocaster guitar which I had to save up a lot of money to get that guitar but then I needed another guitar because it's like a serious guitar that I had to wash it so I got this one even though it was cheap I like it either way cuz of the style and the way how it looks like a mustang
@@BigJakeMusic agreed that the stock pickups are good. you do have a different sound with the hot rails. the outro jam is very tasteful. fantastic vibe. this is a great guitar!
@@AndyThomas_mrblitz Thank you so much!
Scale length? 24" 25"?
24”, just like a Mustang or Jaguar :)
Cool video, dude! I like your tone. I upgraded my ISMF-200 with Wilkinson pickups. I have partial covers of this guitar, with and without stock pickups, on my channel. Check them out sometime. Thanks and keep rockin'!
Thank you, I'll check it out!
I wouldn’t discount pickups just because they were made in China. Maybe he felt they sounded better than the stock pickups? I’ve encountered some no-name no-brand Chinese pickups that sound better than a lot of things that come stock.
The dirt is the paint over spray. That paint is not smooth, its like a under coat.
Makes sense!
I'm no guitar snob, but this style of bridge would be the last type of guitar I would buy from a cheap manufacturer. IYV has done some great stuff for little money but this guitar wouldn't be on my list. I certainly wouldn't 'live with' a high E string that was buzzed out on a trem arm. My personal opinion but these are some of the least impressive guitars out there, looks-wise, but I'm not a Fender or Gibson fan. No shade on your review.
This guitar definitely caters to those who are fans of the Jaguar or Mustang style. Naturally, if you aren’t a fan of those, it wouldn’t appeal to you. I’m a sucker for offsets, so I like it. :)
@@BigJakeMusic It's all good dude. At the end of the day and after some extended playing, how is the bridge? I'm curious to know how the cheaper manufacturers do it, especially on these more esoteric, older designs of bridges.
I bought a used Aiersi T-style and was very impressed for the $125 I paid for it, even with the 'flat bastard' file job the previous owner had done on the frets. (If you're not familiar, Google what a flat bastard file is...hint: 'not for fine work').
It plays well, needs a slight leveling as the 22nd is proud and makes a buzz, bit overall I really like the sound of the pickups and the playability, and who's complaining for $125?
I'm 54 and have played for 40 years...I'd take this thing on stage after the 22nd was sorted. I honestly cannot make it go more than a couple of cents out as fter anights workout. Metal, blues, basic rock....I play about 2 hrs a day and it's rock solid.
After some extended playing it stays in tune very well, even with tremolo usage. I don’t have any complaints about it other than what I mentioned in the video. I agree that it’s an esoteric design that is certainly not ideal. I prefer a Strat trem or a Floyd Rose way more than this one! But it serves its purpose well and hasn’t given me any major issues.
