You made it so easy and simple . When actually it is not . I believe the people running Pakistan, the is ISI are much smarter people . And every body knows their survival depends on kashmir . My guess is, some how , Pakistan, China, Afghanistan and taliban are going to combine forces in kashmir . India can bury its head in sand if they want to. ( Aftermath will make interesting episode). Only way out in the long run , say 50 years is to create strong dependable allies in the subcontinent and Indian Ocean region, make peace with China and carve out balochistan out of present day Pakistan. At the same time India has to grow leaps and bounds in economic , military, scientific , industrial , social indexes . You see its not so easy afterall.

You very rightly said "India should get out of its obsession with Pakistan "
Last three elections in Pakistan...India was never mentioned in any election speeches by any political leader...How did Modi won the two elections in India...by Pakistan bashing.
The concept of strategic depth is a thing of the past..
So forget about it. With missiles available with both India and Pakistan, do you really believe depth really matters.
Strategic Location of Pakistan...Any land connection between India and the entire Far East with Central Asia, Europe etc. shall remain impossible without taking Pakistan in the loop.
With all the problems in South China Sea, CPEC will be the life line for China . It is equally important for Pakistan. India was given the assignment by USA to disrupt it by attacking Gilgit Baltistan....and you know what happened..India is now struck with China in the North...Eventually India will realize the benefits of settling its disputes with China and Pakistan and joining CPEC.
With what happened in Afghanistan, can India really trust declining powers like USA and Europe..Learn from Pakistan's experiences ..India's importance to them is only because it is a big market for their products or to use it against China.
Taliban are no fools..To survive they will try to have good relations with all countries including India but would never allow their soil to be used against Pakistan, China or Central Asian countries..So India better forget about inflicting a thousand cuts from Afghanistan side.
Hope you consider the above facts in your generally un biased analysis......The present one was totally biased and much much below your standard.

It’s a matter of time before the Taliban and Pakistan part ways.

Mr Shekhar Saab makes a great point about shifting India's strategic gaze towards its maritime borders instead of the landmass borders. It also quite evident that China has also been trying to distract India from focusing on building up its naval capacities by intermediately flaring border issues with India. As a result the Indian navy has never received the financial investment comparable to the army. India should invest more heavily into being a naval power in the region. The problem is that terroristan as described above will not go away. It is undeniable that Pakistan under the hubris of their victory in Afghanistan will now try to unleash hoards of terrorists into Kashmir and India. China may not want islamist spillover into Xinjiang, but I doubt if they won't mind it affecting India. Russia is now a junior partner to China and has been coozying up to Pak because they will sell arms to anybody. As a result India cannot completely take their eyes off AFpak. The great game will continue. India needs to use it assets to continue to fuel insurgencies in balochistan and AFpak regions, they need to maintain connections with renegade Taliban forces not under the control of the ISI and make sure they give support to old northern alliance factions in Pakistan. India also needs to keep the financial pressure on Pak to keep them on the Grey list. Unfortunately there is no simple military solution for India. The US withdrawal has shown the weakness of India's strategy and limited options. The withdrawal was a phyrric victory for Pakistan but it will embolden them as has happened in the past to make fantastic strategic decisions, if not blunders. India should be forewarned...

    Well, Pakistsn will always have most leverage on Taliban because;
    1. Most Taliban are educated and trained in Pakistani Madarrsaws and camps.
    2. Pakistan hosts most number of Afghan refugees in the world and even families of Taliban fighters.
    3. Pakistan is the neighbour of Afghanistan and most easy access to ocean for trade
    4. Pakistan's ISI helped Taliban in fight against USSR back in time and now against NATO and US.
    5. Pakistan was the first country to recognise Taliban government in 1990s and openly supported them
    6. Taliban are mostly from Pashtun ethnicity and there are more Pashtuns in Pakistan than in Afghanistan
    7. Since India's RAW joined hands with CIA and NDS against Taliban during war while Pakistan's ISI and MI covertly helped Taliban in their fight.
    8. The new generation of Taliban fighters were all brought up in refugee camps of Pakistan

While talking about the Indian coastline, don't forget that Pakistan has a 900+ km coastline naturally linked to the Persian gulf with higher trade volumes every year. It also has a better proximity to the evolving African peninsula. So it has been in Pakistan's interest, over the past decade, to work for peace with India and focus on the economy. However the Hindutva ideology and a strange Hindu superiority-complex engulfing India has ruined Indian policies globally.
Pakistan, as a well-connected developing country, will be developing as fast, if not faster, in the coming decades!
