I have this set and love using them by themselves and in combination with other colored pencils.

I'm so glad . Could I ask what paper you use them on ? Do you find them too hard ?

I’m totally late to the party here but I just adore the whole Artists range. Yep, they are hard and yes, they seem less pigmented, but paired with a nice paper with a tooth, such as Legion cotton paper, they really shine. Tips for precision blending and work include keeping a sharper point, (a little sandpaper or craft knife will help save money over a reg sharpener if this is a concern, and a slow buildup of even, light layers. Patience is key, especially if you don’t want hand pain. Sounds like a lot but if you want a glowing, detailed drawing, and have the patience, these will outperform Polychromos for fine detail. To blend I either keep layering or use a sharp Derwent blender pencil and light pressure.

I also wanted to add that those tinted whites in the lightfast range and this black and white set are really cool. Need a pink? Use oyster and red, a light blue? Arctic and sapphire. It really opens up the color ranges, especially in the softer lightfast range.

I'm so glad you enjoy them, I really do prefer polychromos but everyone's different and I get that. I still feel like these were the wrong formula for a sketching set designed for quick tonal studies. What a preferred a texture that smudged and blended a lot easier and built up a lot faster considering I do think that's the point but.. maybe I'm wrong . This is just my perspective and I'm open to others opinions.

Thank you very much for the video. I understand that more people have this experience with these pencils, but having just bought them and swatched them, I find they are not quite as hard as I can see the ones you have are. (Coloring holding the pencil way back for the lightest touch gives me a nice even tint on black (smooth) paper, putting pressure, though not the highest oressure, gives a very opaque color). I can also blend quite nicely. I think the formula might have been reformulated when they brought out the Lightfast range? I have that range and I find that they are quite similar, though a little bit harder. My arctic though, pigmented and everything, but not really blueish at all. For me, I think it’s an okay set but quite inconsistent when I put these reviews together.
