    Who has Foerster built up? Seems to me Puni is getting worse the more coaching he gets from Foerster.

  • @peterwest323
    @peterwest323 3 дня назад +18

    Foerster is not a good line coach. I see too many missed blocks, mishandled stunts, non blitzing rushers unaccounted for, and a lack of development at every position. No lineman plays above their talent when coached by Foerster.

      Yup been saying for a while, at this point, only Trent William has played at a pro bowl level and he was already one when we traded for him. We spent a high draft pick on banks and mcglinchy and neither improved after the first couple season. We see that also with burford and we’re starting to see puni show some of the bad habits.

    • @adammckee3496

      I think he's a good coach, but he's stuck with subpar talent. He just doesn't want to throw any of his guys under the bus, which is a good thing. But, if they head into next season with Brendel as the starting center, somebody is fucking up.

    • @byronsmith3152

      The issue is the Niners do not draft for pass blocking. He has to coach what he is given. And we all know how Kyle treats the Oline and his blocking schemes.

      It's a fair point that most of their O line draft picks seem to regress the longer they're on the team. I'm not sure whether it's just bad coaching or the rigors of the league that got to both Burford and Puni and made them regress. I wouldn't worry too much about Puni just yet, but it's a fair point.

    The 9ers could have rebuilt part of the offensive line in last years draft…Frazier at Center…Mason McCormick at Guard ( both starting at Pittsburg )..and maybe Cooper Beebe (starting at Dallas)….but resigning Aiyuk, and drafting a WR at 31 was the ticket to success

      @@karlerikpaulsson88 saying Frazier wasn't/isn't worth a 1st round pick is nonsensical. Any player that stands to make you that much better in protection for your young qb is valuable and worth a 1st, even if the pundits only place a 2nd round grade on the guy and the position in general. I get it. He wasn't projected to go 1st round but In the 49ers' position last year picking at 31, they would have missed him if they waited until the end of the 2nd. Ideally they would have traded down into the 2nd round and used that trade down pick on Frazier and still take Green with their own 2nd rounder..don't know for sure but you'd think some team would've been looking to move up into the late first round to get an extra year on that rookie contract for some player. But the 9ers weren't looking to replace the center so all pretty much moot. Not drafting a high level center has cost them. I lost count of the number of times I saw Brendel steamrolled into Purdy's lap, collapsing the pocket. It was a big issue. So what value do you put on a position that stands to give your QB of the future the best chance to perform, let alone prevent him from getting injured before you invest millions in him. Taking all that into consideration, yeah, I certainly think a top tier, or close to it, center is worth a late 1st round pick.
      But back to Frazier. Reports around the league for some time now have said that Frasier has been so good that he's in the talk for offensive rookie of the year and he's definitely considered a lock at center for years to come in Pittsburgh. Larry called that one.
      Go back to the 2021 draft when they took Aaron Banks in the 2nd round while passing on Creed Humphrey, whom KC took at around 61. Banks is good but Humphrey is among the top centers in the league and hit the ground running his rookie season, 3rd in Offensive rookie of the year voting and been a pro bowler since, was even AP2 one year. I'm not a football offensive line scout or savant but I agree with Larry when he was saying that, especially at your interior oline positions, chances are a lot higher of getting a really good center or guard if they have a wrestling background, which both Humphrey and Frazier did. It's pretty simple. If you've wrestled at a high level, you understand how it translates to being an offensive lineman as you spend years training in using leverages to manhandle your opponent. Frazier and Humphrey weren't wrestling at light weights so it's even more of a factor in evaluating them at their size.

    I think Brendel hit his ceiling in 2022 using smarts and toughness, qualities that Forester prizes. Age and chronic knees have returned him to low to mediocre range in a system that cries for Center dominance in both pass and run plays. Killls your QB and over stresses the guards. It was evident in the preseason but his position coach had blinders on. “Sucks on Sundays” Brilliant comment

    John Madden and Al Davis believed that one built a football team starting with the best offensive line and cornerbacks possible and then go from there. The Niners had the luxury of having Bob McKittrick, the best offensive line coach in the history of the NFL. Bob is no longer with us. Perhaps it’s time to draft and trade for a primo offensive line instead of swiss cheese, which is what we have. Holding is not blocking.

    We all know shanahan has a hard time adjusting. I also think he has a hard time learning. He is stubborn to a fault about his system/scheme/ philosophy. He seems unable to adapt and definitely is unable to admit mistakes, Or even acknowledge them. The team went all in this year on keeping the team together for what was sure to be another SB appearance. That gamble lost. So next year they will pay Brock like a top 5 QB while paying other big names to leave and play for other teams. It's time to go back to the drawing board and rebuild the oline and dline. Let's see if they've learned from their many mistakes and draft appropriately. No more early RBs or WRs or KICKERS until the trenches are fixed. They are no longer adding finishing touches to a SB roster.
