Thanks to this hearing Jerry Coleman's voice broadcasting Padres Baseball brought back memories. We Padres fans miss you Colonel and to Ted Leitner who was just diagnosed with kidney cancer get well Mr. Leitner!
Love watching late 70s/early 80's Phillies and Expos road games. Not only were both teams kick azz during that era but sported the coolest road uni's bar none.
Jerry Coleman was an announcer for the Yankees when I first started watching baseball. He was doing the games on WPIX Channel 11 in NY with Phil Rizutto and Frank Messer. I remember John Curtis when he was pitching for the Red Sox and he looks like a completely different human here. Bushy hair, mustache and no glasses.
This was 1982. Tony Gwynn wasn't even on the team yet! But Ted Leitner backed up tne Colonel Jerry Coleman broadcast this game. As of Seprember, 2017, Ted Leitner is still broadcasting Padres games. Love 'im or hate 'im.
Love this footage of the old Stadium. Anymore games available from this season out of San Diego?? I saw one in Chicago and one in San Francisco.. I'd love to see more of this '82 season
Martin Jones bwahahahaha nah, that’s Hoffman’s #, he earned it with what he did, Curtis was just a normal pitcher. Hoffman was in a league all his own like Pete Rose, Tony Gwynn, Mo Rivera, Derek Jeter etc. Please learn what it’s like for a number to be earned by a player. If it end up getting retired because of that player (Hoffman) then that’s his number. So Nick Johnson is right, Curtis is wearing Hoffman’s #
One foot out batter box contact bat with ball he is out corrales was right Williams wrong accord to rule I think he was saying he didn't make contact ump didn't indicate that either confusion
krukow has been a Giant broadcaster forever now, since the late 1990's, he often has mentioned the 1982 Phillies team he was on under performed all season and he wasnt too fond of Pat Corrales..not heard a lot of Padre games ted leitner sounds really corny
The Phillies only finished in second place in NL East, 3 games behind St. Louis, the eventual World Series champions. The broadcaster in this video acknowledged the new faces on the Phillies by stating, “Who are these Phillies?” They we’re going through a transition period that season.
Went to all the games in 1982. Loved growing up in San Diego. Jerry Coleman was our Vin Scully.
Amen…he sure was…man i miss that voice. Him and Dave Campbell? Are you serious!!!? How lucky we were….and undercover too..Seems like nobody else knew.
padres rarely televised home games on free tv back then. this is a gem
You are so right! This was extremely rare occasion

Uncle Teddy is hanging tough.
Very entertaining commentary by Cambell and friend. Never heard an SD game before.
24:48. "Rooftop" Ruppert Jones rockin' the single flap batting helmet. He'd switch to the double-flap model by the time he got to the Tigers in '84.

And speaking of broadcasting, Phillies starting pitcher #39 Krukow is presently broadcasting for the SF Giants.
Sadly Ted Leitner was just diagnosed with kidney cancer
Christopher Velasco he had successful surgery and it was found out to be a benign tumor.
Frank Scigliano yup and now he's back to broadcasting Padres games
Tony Gwynn had 209 plate appearances for the Padres in 1982. just saying.
Tony gwynn era 1982 starts in San Diego what a career struck out only 423 time whole career
Love this footage of the old Stadium. Anymore games available from this season out of San Diego?? I saw one in Chicago and one in San Francisco.. I'd love to see more of this '82 season
This is super Major League! Both teams should go back to these uniforms! MLB just looked more fun back then!
It was!
The Beach Boys performed after this game.
We know. The game announcers pimped The Beach Boys concert continuously throughout the broadcast- lol.
Krukow throws about 4 pitches in the time it takes David Price to throw one.
It’s funny. The Beach Boys are still playing nearly 40 years later.
Bo Diaz + satellite dish = bad news, mang.
RIP Bo.

When were the Padres televising day home games in the early 80's?
LOL Probably sold out because of the beach boys concert right after.
Frank Scigliano Hmm..I don't remember Padres telecasting home games back then. Must have been a special occasion.
@@douglaslowe5 blackouts only when there were not sell outs. Otherwise they started putting them on Channel 4. Channel 8 did do road games.
He was Charles hustle but name was Pete

This was the good ol' days before Nancy's "Just Say No" campaign, when substance abuse was still funny.
Not too many guys even 2020 woulda caught that gapper #22 caught he outran the ball Ruppert jones
Gary Matthews i remember had that batting stance
Aka the Sarge.
Weird seeing Tempy as a 3 hitter. Wish we could've kept Ruppert though. Weird watching 2 months before Tony makes his MLB debut.
Dick Williams didn’t like Rupert Jones. Jones didn’t fit Williams style.
So was that the first star hung from the booth? RUUUUUUUUPPPP!!!!
Curtis is wearing Trevor Hoffman's #51

He is corny. But that's why we love him. He was on News 8 sports too.

kennedy cant frame worth a damn
Please do not put Jerry Coleman in the same sentence as Vin Scully.
Exactly. Scully was never & will never be the player Coleman was for the Yankees. #Facts.
@@OutlookPositive And Vin Scully never uttered the words "Peter Rose", only a total asshole would.
And neither men could hold Harry Kalas’s jock
