If anyone decides to relax their hair, base the scalp thoroughly and avoid getting relaxer on the skin!❤❤❤

I am so grateful for natural ethnic hamitic hair RUclipsrs like yourself,CD, who admit that hamitic women have the right to choose how to take care of their hair and no one has the right to police their choices including RUclips natural textured hair influencers (Tatiana White RUclipsr can be toxic 😮).
Relaxers are dangerous so those who choose to use them proceed with caution. Forewarned is forearmed.

I relaxed my hair when I was much younger because I didn't like how much my hair shrank 😂. I just didn't like it and stopped. One of the massive misconceptions about relaxers are 1. People think they don't have to do the work on their hair and they still do if you dont look after it properly it will break and fall off. 2. A lot of people don't apply it properly its not meant to touch your scalp at all and thats were the health issues begin. I definitely prefer my hair natural, I think she (my hair) is beautiful.

Good points!!! Not sure how practical it is to not have it touch the scalp though🤔. Cause even for retouching, the goal is to relax the roots… shrinkage is magical! I remember losing all my hair while Texlaxed.😅

@@CoilyDiaries The heat from your scalp makes the relaxer expand (the same with hair bleach), there is supposed to be a small gap between the relaxer and your scalp. Anyways, we don't have that problem. It was too much hassle for me.

@@CoilyDiaries Exactly that's why so many people's hair break off or never seems to grow.

@@CoilyDiaries Yes, relaxer should NEVER touch the scalp. If it does, it's been applied incorrectly, and is one of the reasons it's supposed to be for professional use only. Unfortunately a lot of "professionals" also don't know what they're doing.😔

The FDA in the USA was planning to ban the formaldehyde in relaxers but has yet to do so. There is class action lawsuit for those Black women possibly harmed by developing cancer from use of relaxers. I have been seeing the ads on social media on the topic for years now.

So I hear. Apparently it’s more keratin straightening treatments than relaxers? But am not an expert on this…

I think those who want to relax should be able to do so without being judged by those who are natural. It shouldn't be a competition. I wish the beauty industry would figure out how to make relaxers that do not have harmful health repercussions. I had a relaxer once for about six months before I cut it off. I absolutely hated it! Personally, my natural hair is easier to care for than my relaxed hair. I was used to my natural hair and knew how to care for it.

Co existence is important. Natural hair police can point fingers at other women who decide different but we all fall short and at lacking in some area of our lives

Suen Okimi had very long relaxed hair. Relaxed doesn't mean low maintenance necessarily, you have to actively take care of it or it will break off. Dolce Dawn is another lady who has beautiful relaxed hair. I enjoy watching her vids from time to time, and you can tell that she absolutely loves her hair.
American relaxers (that were invented by black people) do not have any ingredients that have been proven to be carcinogenic. If we want to bring lye into the discussion 1. Lye is in every soap made ever, and 2. You can make your own relaxer at home with lye, eggs, and potatoes.
Japanese straighteners and keratin smoothing treatments are different and HAVE been found to contain formaldehyde which is toxic in high enough amounts, especially when inhaled.
Now, I'm not recommending that anybody get a relaxer, especially as they work by literally dissolving the hair strand to make it smaller, and left on long enough would actually completely dissolve the hair, but it's no more harmful to your health than bleach, which shouldn't be put directly on the skin either, but people still do it 😳
Personally I love my curls, and as someone who had relaxed hair as a kid/teen, I'm never, NEVER going back (I can still smell it if I think about it 🤢) but I understand why people do, and there is no actual proven link to cancer, or other health hazard if applied correctly.

Every soap is not made with lye you have to do more research I use Castile to shower and to clarify my locs once a month there are natural soap people need to stop just grabbing something because it smells good

My hair was relaxed as a child for manageability, as it was very kinky, long and dense. Did the same in my adulthood. But my hair got so damaged….and then i got a Japanese hair straightening and it was the best chemical treatment i have ever done for my hair. Sooo different from the aggressive relaxer. But the relaxer probably gets a bad rep because of the damage it causes to the hair and scalp…not because one is doing it to out of wanting to look like someone they‘re not.. i would never relax my hair again, but i believe that if someone does relax their hair and have proper knowledge on how to care for relaxed hair, they might actually succeed in having health hair.

What I do to make my hair more manageable: use leave-in conditioner and leave-in detangler daily, use deep conditioner and shampoo weekly. That's it....I would consider that I have it easier than a lot of naturals. I have ultra-fine hair and although it has high shrinkage ( 80%) and 4c penspring coils, as long as I keep it moisturised and hydrated daily and keep up with my trims, it doesn't tangle. 🤷‍♀🤷‍♀ I've always been quite radical with my hair. I stopped having a relaxer because I wasn't happy with the breakage, the scalp discomfort, the cost, the flatness, the thinness and the being tied to a salon. I'm not saying I will never relax again but for now it just isn't part of what I'm focusing on in my lifestyle.
