Making mistakes doesn't help per Se.
And one more thing, I am sure that most people DO NOT learn from mistakes, in fact most people simply pay a high price for the mistake they will tell themselves that they will learn and in the end commit the same mistake again and again.

As an engineer that constantly learns new things, I think it is very important to learn how to learn. That includes learning how to search for the knowledge you are looking for. We are living in the "age of information" but it is useless if you cannot find it. You also need to know how to extract knowledge, whether it is from a book, a website or a video. Just reading or watching isnt enough, you got to be able to keep good notes that you can refer to. You got to take the information in and understand it. You got to work out some examples and do some planning. But most importantly you got to put the information in practice. And dont wait until you got the perfect setup or the perfect tools. Sometimes what you need to do is just start. You will be surprised what you can do with what you already have (or with some basic tools) and you wont find that out from the people that already have the experience or every tool available.

    • @scooby1961

In my current situation, I can only live life through the videos you provide, enough of that. Screw up? You have been retired half your life, make millions on real estate, own rentals, spend all your time on hobbies, looks like a very blessed life to me. Not a hater, my hat is off to you, awesome life

Sounds like you’d love The Beginning of Infinity by David Deutsch. It’s a science/philosophy book but it essentially proves what you said, the only way to gain knowledge in any area is conjecturing new ideas, failing, and improving,

LOL! I was heading out for a bike ride when I got this idea for a video. I knew if I didnt film it right then and there it would be lost, so I took 5 minutes and filmed it before my ride.

Not sure if you ever mentioned, but how detailed drawings of Dotty did you create when planning the design? Would be interesting to see some examples if you are willing to share.

My wife recently broke the bathroom door and I messed up the new door trying to cut it to size. How did I make a mistake? I assumed the knob hole was in a certain position and it wasn't. Then the door didn't line up properly. So I had to buy a new door and do it again.
Such a silly mistake because carpentry takes a lot of knowledge regarding measurements and how things go together.

You could have watched 200 hours of DIY videos about door installation and you would have never learned that lesson. Consider what you did a really efficient way of learning!!!!
