Marcus needs to try swimming for his back! It’s great cardio, the only workout that requires every muscle. People swim in their 80’s for a reason! 0 stress on the joints

I think it's because a deadlift compresses the front spinal space(closest to your front body) which pushes the herniated disc out toward the back spinal space causing nerve compression and pain( this is my layman's understanding as a person with back stuff)

I have a herniated disc. Hinging at the waist aggravates it. No deadlifts no kettlebell swings. And I have sciatica issues. Yoga works wonders! Specifically the child pose. My chiropractor advised doing it on the edge of the bed for a deeper stretch.
Put ice on your back for about 20 minutes every hour when you have time (especially after you workout). It will help with the inflammation.
