  • As the last of the coal is being excavated, more old underground workings are exposed, pillar and room and even a tunnel leading to the Hutton workings in Bradley drift mine . The remaining opencast coal will be removed over the next three weeks or so, the overburden pile will start to be reduced from next week and through the winter and the whole site will be completed by next September. Not a good day for the drone, bounced all over in the wind, amazing how the gimble held the camera so steady.
Grateful thanks to David Paterson for information and timescales.
    Music:
    Somnolent, by The Tides.
Frozen in love, by Aakash Gandhi.

John your aerial views are exceptional. I am catapulted into the world of Peter Pan flying over places I thought I knew well only to discover a different view and a different perspective. I never tire of watching your visual journeys. I have told many of my friends to catch them on RUclips, hopefully your list of subscribers will increase and enjoy this nouveau art style as much as I do. Many thanks. Keep up the good work.

Hi Clement, thank you very much for watching and I'm pleased you enjoyed it. I intend to video Pit House to the West and High Barn to the South East of Intake farm by flying from near the mast. Just waiting for some decent weather and calmer winds. The drone was bouncing around all over in the wind yesterday, the camera gimble does an amazing job of holding the camera steady, you can hardly tell from the video.

Maybe it was the music but I felt a bit emotional looking at those old workings and thinking of the men and boys (and maybe women) who spent their days down there.

Thanks for watching and leaving a comment. I would like to see a few mines kept in decent condition for people to visit, that wouldn't be without serious problems of course but it's a shame so much of our history is being lost.

Didnt take very long, thought that was gonna be there for ten years. Lovely but sad to see the old workings. Hope they tried their best to preserve artifacts where possible

The coaling phase is finished now, just the overburden to be replace and the landscaping. It should be finished by next September.

Cracking one John shame planning was not granted for the extension just waiting on the other 2 sites to see if they get the green light

Thanks Stephen. I was given a tip off about the exposed mine workings by a manager from Banks group, really interesting guy to talk to. Coaling ends at Bradley over the next three weeks and the overburden will be removed afterwards and over the winter. Next year restoration, landscaping, planting etc will be completed by September.
