    The oddest things to me about the way Sonic.exe is written is
    1) All of the completely out-of-place references the author uses, with how many times things like "The music sounded like X track from Y game but *creepy*" is said, and
    2) How many overly specific measurements of time the author put in, like saying something happened for "7 seconds" specifically when it's highly unlikely that the protagonist would like actually count the seconds like that.
    As a writer myself, hearing Sonic.exe read out loud always makes me cringe so hard, lol.

      It's, unironically, a very good 4 sentence horror story, even if it's written like a satire lmao. Better than 80% of the creepypastas for sure. No overexplanation, no hyperrealistic bloodshot eyes, no long, cheesy dialog, no out of the place gore, no "everyone went missing afterwards" business, no taking itself way too seriously - just pure mystery. Just "who was phone?" and no answer.

    I always roll my eyes a little bit at sonic.exe.. I think it just reminds me too much of those hardcore sonic fans that are obsessed with fanfic. Written by a hardcore sonic fan who is also in love with creepypasta.. There's nothing wrong with that if you're in to it, but I start thinking of the meta, and it pulls me right out.
    Also, I never really noticed just how many of these creepypastas bank on "scary smile".

    Wanted to give my opinion on some of the stories that stood out as good or bad.
    The Ronald one had so much potential it's insane. I kind of wish someone would go back and rewrite it as a story that builds up on the creep factor. Like, the social worker could have been told instead that the kids went out when they were 18 they lived really good lives. The story could have built up over time with things getting creepier and creepier, like the receptionist starting out normal to make the social worker think this place was a regular home for foster kids who couldn't be placed, but it was actually a horror house. And the ending was just... Extremely confusing, what even happened. Narrator also needs a lot of work cause we keep being told he's a bad kid, but it doesn't feel like it at all.
    Mr. Widemouth I can't believe how little attention it gets. Pacing is great, narrator feels like a real person, there is just enough creep factor to keep you hooked, and the ending actually has good payoff. I love having a realistic narrator whose smart and doesn't listen to these weird tasks. It makes it even better knowing at the end that other kids were not so lucky. I love the mystery of why Mr. Widemouth can tell kids to hurt themselves, but can't do it himself.
    I wish I could love Abandoned By Disney, but that photonegative Mickey is just... So funny.

    • @surgingtsunami7780
      @surgingtsunami7780 9 месяцев назад +5

      Photonegative Mickey either makes or breaks Abandoned By Disney for people. Personally, with future context I think he’s fine. Interesting, even. But, at the time. When only the first pasta was available. It does come rather abruptly, and can come off goofy in some of the execution.

    Watching this video brought me back to a simpler time. A time where a ghost in a kids game and an 8 foot man in a tuxedo were scary. Reading/listening/watching creepypastas as a kid adds a factor into the stories as well. I believe that when we are younger, we are more inclined to the unknown and the abhorrent. Enjoying these at 19 feels so much different from listening to the stories in 6th grade as a 12 year old. Everything was so much more real, and it was honestly terrifying. Please do make more of these videos. I didn't think there was still a community behind these, it's cool to meet and see other kids who grew up with early internet horror

    Russian Sleep Experiment is a B in my book. One of the big problems I have with it is that the story doesn't do a good job of keeping count of how many test subjects there are. I'm pretty sure there's 6 deaths written out in that story (discounting the deaths of other characters), but there's only 5 test subjects.
    Otherwise, yeah: its stupidly iconic. I'd argue though that the premise and gorey imagery is doing a lot of the heavy lifting more than anything.

  • @lowtechredneck6704
    @lowtechredneck6704 9 месяцев назад +2

    Russian Sleep Experiment was the first creepypasta I ever came across, it was a recommended video from when I was watching MK Ultra videos. I wasn't sure whether it was fake until the obvious physical impossibilities entered the picture, but I found it quite entertaining. The next one I came across was Candle Cove, which I liked even more. Sadly, it soon became evident that most creepypastas were written by and for children, but there were enough decent ones to keep me interested for awhile.

    imo one of the largest flaws in the writing of sonic.exe is that the way jc constantly compares the visuals and audio to specific things from certain games in unnecessarily high detail. it just feels kinda dumb and pointless. like, he describes how sonic.exe's flying animation is like metal sonic's, how eggman's run animation is the same animation used for "when you beat him at the end of a classic sonic game and you chase him", the theme for the you can't run stage is just giygas' theme from earthbound (specifically the one that's after you beat pokey), how the theme for the hide and seek stage is a "pixelated" version of some theme from sa2 (side note: are you actually serious right now. why did he not at the very least say "8-bit" instead of pixelated, of all things??), and most importantly of all, that sonic.exe's laugh is a distorted version of kefka's laugh from final fantasy.
    it's possible that the point of saying all of that stuff was that he was trying to make it seem like it was a poorly made sonic mod, but then why the hell would sonic.exe be like... real? how would he put a sonic plush on tom's bed if he was JUST part of a terribly made hack? and in fact, he's not just part of a shitty hack. he's apparently supposed to be some interdimensional entity who MADE the sonic.exe disc to use as a gateway between "the void" and earth. it's just stupid, because the writing implies that this interdimensional being who wants to enslave the human race (and i guess he somehow plans to do that by HOPING that everyone on earth will decide to play the sonic.exe disc) was so incompetent that instead of being able to produce his own laugh (after all, he does have a voice) he just used the fuckin kefka laugh of all things instead.
    on an unrelated note to finish this off, i love how sonic.exe (the character) was actually NOT intended to be called sonic.exe, his actual name is just X. it's just that the original sonic.exe creepypasta never included his real name so everyone just went with the next best thing, the name of the creepypasta.

    The Russian Sleep Experiment is always an S tier for me at least. It scared me for days and I couldn't sleep for quite a long time.

    when i was young, i thought Sonic.EXE was good, but now that I'm older and I've reheard it, it's horrible
    Sonic.EXE truly is the epitome of bad writing in a creepypasta, other than jeff the killer origins. Sonic.EXE would be good, if the main character/pov wouldn't be so cheesy. why tear up over a videogame characters suffering?

      i found out like two years ago that someone hijacked 1999 like 2ish updates into the series which is why it’s so hard to find narrations on youtube now. ik creepsmcpasta took down all of his 1999 narrations at the request of the original author

    Why did you start by just describing the stories, then start reading them in full? I think you'd probably have more time to spare if you didn't read the entirety of Sonic.exe

    White With Red being in A tier and Russian Sleep Experiment, Tulpa, Arizona, and Abandoned By Disney all being A or B doesn't sit right with me personally.
    White With Red has a good twist but most of the story isn't that good and it's told akwardly. If the hotel didn't want anyone going into the room where the woman was murdered the receptionist bringing it up for no reason is a very lazy plot convenience. I also just found most of the other stories mentioned scarier personally.

    If i did one of these, I'll use Sonic 2011 instead of Sonic.exe, because its a better version of the original creepypasta, plus 2011x is the current version of classic Sonic.exe.
    (Plus i love JoeDoughBoi and he's way better than JC the Hyena)

    Couldn't take any of the clown house story seriously because i was remembering my friend who's into girls dressed as clowns all the time.
    Like, if he was that guy he'd have gotten horny instead of scared when he saw the secretary.
