- It's a daring and dangerous underwater adventure with Oscar-winner Cary Grant as the captain of the U.S.S. Copperfin submarine bound for a search and destroy mission in Tokyo harbor during WWII in preparation for a major Allied assault on Japan.Destination Tokyo is as much about the relationship between the naval men as it is about their heroic mission. Steve Fisher was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Story and later transformed his thrilling war saga into a best-selling novel.

I can imagine this trailer echoing in an old theater in the 1940s
I can smell the damp hallway leading to the big screen!
One of my favorites. Great characters, familiar faces, made to the highest standards of the time. They definitely don't make 'em like this anymore.
Mary Landa stars in this movie and she's my great ant :)
Always wished they had subtitles that translated what the Navy radio operator was broadcasting after they boated ashore and set up the clandestine remote transmitter. It was obviously in Japanese but you had no way of knowing what he was sending out. I know it was locations and instructions for our invading forces but what was he saying? I have the DVD but someone needs to provide the translation, would love to know!
This is a fine movie.
Classic film :)
Great musical score.
Capt's looking through the periscope, a guy reports "1,000 fathoms, Sir!" A fathom is approx 6ft. SO my question is, which type of WWII US sub had 6,000 foot high periscopes???
I like that they used Winchester 92s to arm the shore party. ?: Did the Navy put 92s on their subs? Probably not.
Classic

This author does not know the size of Tokyo Bay.
It's very narrow.
Submarines can not enter while submersible.
I am Japanese.
I live in a place facing Tokyo Bay.
I can see the other side.
This is American war propaganda. It was not meant to be factual or realistic.
“Secret submarine base”? I think most people know about San Francisco. Just go to Marin County and head south.
Is that near the Nuclear Wessels?
@@edwardpate6128 - I loved that scene in the Star Trek movie! I have teenage nephews, and I wonder if they will even get the joke!
