- One of my main question I had before buying this drum kit was how loud is it for those close by not playing. In this video, I share a brief compilation and comparison of headphone sound and raw drum sound.

thanks! finally
it amazes me how none of these promo videos that the stores trying to sell e drums are making show you the actual loudness of pads
isnt volume one of the main reasons people want to get e drums...
I agree ... I feel that a lot of the big brand marketing (whether done by the brand or by affiliated retail) could do a much better job in helping a potential customer make a purchase decision by answering the important questions and demonstrating the product.
piss pie that and because you will always get the sound you’re looking for
Thank You so much for this video! Now I know how load the kit actually sounds acoustic. I will not buy it. To bad. But it would have probably drive my neighbours crazy.
Hey Mats, thanks for your comment. You might want to check out aerodrums.com/home/ instead.
Lmaoooo from the other people's POV, they'll think that we are crazy or something

@@Sean_Twomey thank you so much for reply💚
Thank you for making this video! That's the answer I've been looking for. So, is the mesh pad way quieter than the rubber pad? I don't hear anything from the snare, just the cymbals.
You're welcome! Yes, the mesh snare is quieter than the pads. But the entire kit is fairly quiet, given that it's not completely silent. Also depends on how hard you play. Cheers, Sean
@@Sean_Twomey Thanks Sean. If you hit the rim of the snare, it also sounds, right? I am comparing this with the TD1K model. It seems to me that's the major difference between the two models.
Hello, Thanks for the video. You have an extra cymbal. If I buy this model (The TD-1kv has two cymbals only), I can add an extra?
Yes, that's correct. Here is the direct link for the add-on cymbal. Roland OP-TD1C Electronic Add-On Cymbal: amzn.to/2EhQdxK
With speakers: dum..tak...dum...dum...tak...tak....piissshh. Without speakers: tak....tak....tak..tak...tak...takkkk
You should try headphones ... sounds amazing!
Is the extra cymbal working? How to add extra cymbal?
Yes, it works perfectly. You just need to purchase the add-on, add it to your kit and plug it in. :)
Excellent video👌
Got my wife to approve.
Nice drumming👍
Hey Joseph, thanks for watching and commenting. Appreciate your feedback. :)
Hey what application do you use in your computer to display notes of songs like in guitar hero?
These are videos of Guitar Hero that I play back from RUclips. Check out some of my drumming videos, I usually add the link to each song in the description.

What I would be more interested to know is what are the sound levels from the Other Rooms of the Apartment AND also from the Apartment right below
Great comment and makes a lot of sense. Unfortunately I did not have access to all the other apartments in this block when I recorded this video.
This is like watching somebody else play vr
😂
What "game" is that you're playing on the laptop?
Hey, apologies for the delayed reply. I play along to Drumless Guitar Hero tracks on RUclips. You'll find the link to them in the description of my drumming videos.
Lol
It's the cymbals ,that are the loudest, right?
It's a combination of the cymbals, the tom pads and the bass kick. Also depends how hard you play it.
Thank you for doing this videos. I had the same question which you answered so well.
He Saeid, thanks for the comment. I'm glad you found my video. Are you thinking of buying this kit?
Yes, for my 13-year-old daughter. Do you recommend it?
Yes, it's a great kit. If you're on a tight budget and for a 13 year old, I'd recommend the cheaper Roland TD-1K kit amzn.to/2NF3UMa - and if you want to spend a bit more and get the mesh (more realistic snare drum), then get the Roland TD-1KV kit amzn.to/2D3rfCU (that's the one I play in my videos). I hope this helps. I'm sure your daughter will absolutely love it. :)
Hi Sean, Thank you so much for the advice. I was thinking of buying the one that you play. Does headphone come with it if not, do you have a recommendation? Regards, Saeid
I use the Sennheiser Momentum 2.0 Over-Ear Headphones, but I can't even find those on Amazon. You could also get the Roland V-Drums Stereo Headphones (RH-300V): amzn.to/2ObJviI - those should work well with the VDrums to get the best experience. There are endless options for headphones, but quality does vary and you usually get what you pay for.
Thanks for sharing such helpful video
Recently considering get TD1KV for practicing
big thanks from Taiwan:)
Thanks for your kind comment. I’m glad you found the video helpful. Have never been to Taiwan but would love to visit some day. Regards from Cape Town, South Africa. 😃
How did you record I’ve got this kit but I have no idea on how to properly record what I play!!
Hey Luke, thanks for the question.
I split the headphone line-out and run one of those signals into my Zoom H4N Handy Portable Digital Recorder: amzn.to/2v3MuEt - for me that works great.
You can also use this kit as a midi controller and record straight into various DAWs (Digital Audio Workstations), like Logic Pro. I have not done much of this, but it is part of my plan.
Cheers, Sean
What is the computer game your using?

Dianaboll - I play along to drum less tracks from Guitar Hero, which you can find on RUclips. I link out to them from the description of each of my drumming videos. 👍
What software did you use to record the audio??
Back when I recorded that, I simply split the line out and fed it into my Zoom H4N recorder :) In my more recent videos, I connect my vKit to my MacBook Pro using an USB cable and track the drums into Logic Pro and use EZDrummer3 to trigger specific drum sounds, which works great. Here is an example of what that sounds like: ruclips.net/video/eFqpXvGJXuA/видео.html

I have the same drumkit, but I don't know why I can still hear the loudness of pads when I connect the drumkit with an amplifier (ROLAND PM-10), I am sure I turn the amplifier's volume on and it's not low volume either.
Hi Alma, I have never played with an amplifier, but I can well imagine that the sound of the pads won't go away. The only thing that works really well is playing with over the ear headphones, as they block out the outside sounds. I love my Sennheiser Momentum 2.0 over the ear headphones (amzn.to/2WxUtqp).
i want that game
You can find these videos on RUclips to play along to. Just search for drumless guitar hero videos.
video interessante. grazie.
I have a question, when you hit the symbals do you hear also the tom? I have the same Drum kit I am disappointed with the products because evrytime I hit the symbals the tom make sounds also even I already Adjusted the sensitivity of the Pad, thanks for the reply.
Hi Kanyo, I'm sorry to hear that. I do not have the issue that you are describing. I would suggest returning it to the store you bought it from or contacting Roland for support. If you can share a video with me of your issue, I can try provide further feedback. Good luck with getting this resolved. I still love and recommend this drum kit!
Can I play this kit without using an Amp or headphones, ie does the sound module produce the sound from its inbuilt speaker? I'm considering this kit but I don't want to buy an amp. Cheers
Hi Swaraj, no that is not possible - you either need an amp or headphones. I'd recommend playing with headphones. Cheers, Sean
Спасибо!
Thank you
Do hear the sounds yourself? That’s something I always struggle with, usually when playing something quieter like a closed hi hat or soft ride cymbal.
Hey Sam, make sure to play with over-ear headphones to block out as much outside sound as possible. I use and recommend Sennheiser Momentum 2.0 - amzn.to/2WxUtqp
I hope that help. Let me know if you have any other questions. Cheers, Sean
What was he playing along with on his lap top?
Hey Kenneth, I play along to drumless Guitar Hero videos on RUclips. On all my drumming cover videos, I add links to those videos. It's the perfect hack for learning to play the drums. Lets you play along to popular songs, while filling the drums and learning drum patterns.
wow I also wondered what drum sound on electric drum without an amp. I like how you play some songs are from Guitar hero or rock band.
Some songs I only recognize heard from movies or MTV:
the middle - Jimmy eat world
Rock show - Blink 182
It's the end of the world as we know it - REM (Chicken Little movie).
what other songs did you play? BTW keep it up playing these challenging songs!

@@Sean_Twomey your welcome, Do you play rock band or guitar hero using Electric drums as possible to connect?
Good vid but I wish I could find one where a decibel app on a phone is used. It's going to come down to actual decibels and without actually being in the room, there's no way to gauge just exactly how loud certain pads are.
Hey John, thanks for watching and commenting. I fully agree that using a decibel app would be more useful. I appreciate the feedback and I'll see if I can create a follow up video. Wishing you a great weekend. Cheers, Sean
God dammit! Why can nodody use a DB Parameter app. I want know how DB have a e-drum...
Hey Dave 182 - That's a great idea. In hindsight, that would have made the video more useful. I'll add it to my list of videos to produce. Thanks for the comment. Hope you still enjoyed the video. Cheers
It would be great with something to actually compare it with. Like...an acoustic guitar? A real drum set or something.
Hey Dahoon, thanks for watching and thanks for your feedback. I agree and have added this to my list of ideas of future videos to produce. Cheers, Sean
Thank you for a very helpful demo! I need to make as little sound as possible (very small apartment). Do you know of another kit that is quieter, other than the aero drums you mentioned, or is this one of the more quiet ones?
Hi, thanks for your comment. I'm glad you found the video helpful. All drums will make a certain amount of noise depending of course on how hard you play them. The Aero Drums would be most quiet because you are literally hitting the air. I do know that Roland does offer additional accessories to further reduce noise levels, but I personally have not tested these. Good luck with finding the right kit. If your apartment is too small and noise is a problem, then maybe opt for hiring a practice room with a drum kit.
Thanks for your prompt reply! I will check out the accessories to dampen sound. Cheers!
Thank you! Very helpfull

I have always wondered what it was like. Getting my td k1 next week
Thanks for the comment and enjoy your new kit. I'm sure it will give you hours of fun! Cheers, Sean
Can you get the song & your drums to play through the headphones at the same time so you can play along? Or is it just over speaker
Hi Paul, yes, I use the audio input to send the audio signal from my sound source (e.g. Macbook Pro) into the drums. That way I can hear the song and my drumming over the same headphones. I never play with speakers. I hope that helps. Cheers, Sean
Mr Sean, Zoom H4N is wayyyy to expensive for me. any chance you recently found a cheaper way to record?
If i dont have the money, is the only option is to manually sync the video and audio via midi? any advice on how to record myself playing via mobile phone? iRig doesnt work with TD1K :( Been researching for ages! (i wish i spent a little more money to buy other edrums, this one is extremely hard to record)
You can easily record the TD1KV via midi into your desktop or laptop computer, but you will need advanced recording software like Logic Pro X for Mac or something equivalent in order to correctly map the midi instrument with your virtual drums instrument in the software. I tried using GarageBand, but the instrument mapping is out of sync and mapping it manually was not an option for me. I have no recommendation for mobile phone ... I'm sure it's possible, but it all depends on your device and you'll most likely need an adapter to convert the signal.
Also, I'm sure you can find something similar to the Zoom H4N that is more affordable or purchase a second hand older version of the H4N.
I hope this helps. The TD1KV is an extremely competent midi instrument, you just need either the right software to map and record midi drums or you need an audio device that can record the line out from the drums (like the H4N).
Good luck!
At last, a video showing the one thing the others don't and a very important thing too. I'm suprised that it's still pretty noisy even when not playing too hard.
Hey Gary, thanks for your comment. Yes, it's still pretty loud, but much quieter than acoustic drums. If you want complete silence, then check out the Aerodrums: amzn.to/340DKef
I listened to it and am still unsure... To me, it sounded like they were both at the same volume, only without the acoustics of the drums and cymbals. So they are still quite loud, yes?
Hi Mark, I think this video was more to give an impression of what it sounds like and not the volume. Volume really depends on how hard you play and the playing environment. I would not use this video to purely compare volume. This kit is definitely not quiet when you play it, but it's a lot quieter than an acoustic kit. Hope that helps. Cheers
Pappapapap
😂
Hi Sean...thanks for this ! I try to find a small compact Drum Kit for my daughter ged 7 (her 1st year of drums)...Have you got by any chance a tip for a cheaper Drum Kit, that would still sound well ?
My main question is on the youtube Guitar Heroe track that you play : have you learned all on your own watching these videos or have you been tought proper classical drum lessons (theory) ? In the case you have had music theory, is it easier to play with guitar heroe track rather than on a music sheet ? Thanks :)
Unfortunately, I don't have any recommendations for a cheaper more compact kit. I think this Roland is a great entry level kit. There are loads more kits that are cheaper, but I have not played or tested any of them. And to answer your second question, no, I have not had any classical/theory drum lessons. I've completely taught and learnt by myself using both Guitar Hero, playing in a band as a guitarist and bassist and watching drummers on RUclips. I hope that helps.
@@Sean_Twomey that dos help indeed, thanks a lot and I am amazed that you learned to play on your own !! What an achievement. bravo, cheerz
@@VoltaireParis Thanks, I appreciate your kind words.

Hi! Nice video! Tell me please, how do you think, is it really necessary to buy td-1kv with this cool snare pad or is it ok to buy td-1k? And also I wanna know how bad is default bass pedal without the pad?
Hi Виктория Томенко, thanks for your comment and questions. Yes, if you or whoever will be drumming is looking for a more realistic snare feeling, then I'd highly recommend getting the TD-1KV with the mesh snare, compared to the standard pad. As an amateur/beginner drummer, I really like the feel of the default bass pedal and have not yet upgraded it. However, if perhaps you're used to playing with a proper bass pedal, then default pedal will feel different. I love the TD-1KV (amzn.to/2D3rfCU) setup out of the box -- all I added was the additional OP-TD1C cymbal (amzn.to/2EhQdxK). Hope that helps.
Thanks! Now it's clear.
May i know, the software/application you're playing the game with
Hey Hansen, no app is being used. I'm simply playing along to a video that I access via RUclips. I've included the links to the drumless tracks in the description of each of my videos. Cheers, Sean
Hi, i don't know if you are still active, but i am looking to get into drumming. But since we are moving to an appartement, i was thinking if an electric drum would be (more)silent. And listening to the video i don't think its really loud, but wanted to know your thoughts on it.
Great vid btw, its amazing.
Hey TBear, thanks for the comment. Yes, I'm still active. I think the Roland VDrums are great. They are not completely silent, but WAAAAY quieter when compared to acoustic drums. I'd recommend getting a set VDrums, you'll love them. Let me know if you have any other questions. Cheers, Sean
@@Sean_Twomey Ah okay thanks, ill have a look into that. Thx for the help
Thanks for the video. Is that RockBand playing on the laptop?? How did you connect the drum kit to it?
Hi Omer, I play along to videos of Rock Band. I don't actually play the game. I purely use the videos for the drumless backing track and the tabs showing me what to play. It works perfectly. Let me know if that answers your question. Cheers, Sean
Thanks Sean, do you have some tips on how to sync the RB tabs with the backing track?
hey do you think this ekit would be alright to have in a uni dorm/flat? or does the sound of the kit travell through the walls
Hi Loveday Ayto, that's a difficult question to answer. Whether sound travels through walls will depend on how thick or thin the walls are, the acoustics of the room and also how hard you play the drums.
I think this kit is one of the best and quietest kits available. I've just moved my kit into a new apartment recently and I'm hoping that the neighbours won't complain, but I also make sure to keep my playing times and session durations to reasonable times and lengths. I also always close the windows and doors.
Practising/playing instruments should be allowed in apartments and dprm rooms if it's within reason and respect, and if the rules allow. All the best with deciding whether to play this kit.
PS: If you do decide to purchase this kit via Amazon, please consider using my link: amzn.to/2D3rfCU - Appreciate your support.
rip I was going to play till midnight but it’s too loud 😔
Hey Kozume, thanks for watching and commenting. I’m sorry to hear that. Hope you can find enough time to rock out during a time when you don’t disturb anyone around you. Have fun and have a great week. - Sean
What’s the game your playing?
The video is from the game Guitar Hero, but I don't actually play the game. I play along to the drumless videos, which can be found on RUclips. I link to them in the description of all my videos. You can also connect V-Drums to the actual game, but it's a bit more complex and I don't need the feedback from the game. This way I learn the song and fill in the drums according to the tabs in the video. It's perfect!
Does td1k have a midi out? If not then how are you playing rock band
Hi, yes it does have a midi out, but I'm not playing the actual rock band game. I'm just playing along to the drumless track from the game. Cheers, Sean

Hi Sean, I have same drumset as you, how you read notes from Guitar Hero track and map it to ur drums? thanks
Hi Shell Scott, thanks for the comment and great questions.
This is the key that I use while playing, but you can interpret some colours based on your own preferences.
Horizontal Line = Bass Drum
Red rectangle = Snare
Blue rectangle = Tom 1
Yellow rectangle = Tom 2 (or sometimes Tom 1)
Green rentable = Tom 3
Yellow Circle = Mostly Hi-Hat (sometimes Crash)
Green Circle = Mostly Ride (sometimes Crash)
Blue Circle = Either Crash, Ride or China
Yellow rectangle can also be Snare - when both red and yellow rectangle show up together.
But I generally play that as Hi-Hat & Snare together.
I hope this is helpful.
Have fun!
for sure its helpful, thanks a lot, now I know how to train myself )

THANK YOU !! and I thank my husband to wonder about this before beginning drums !
It's a good thing to think about ... that is if you respect and care about those around you. The only option you can consider is Aero Drums (aerodrums.com/) - it's a virtual kit and makes no sound at all. However, I'm not too excited about when it comes to learning how to drum "properly" because you don't get that tactile feedback of actually hitting something.
Sean P Twomey that's weird but fun. why not...
Ideal as the most compact kit. Perfect for traveling or for extreme minimalism - especially if you just have to drum but can't make a sound. For now I'll stick with the Roland TD1KV whenever I can :)
Thank you!

Hi Jonah, I was waiting for someone to ask this question. I split the headphones out from the module into headphones for monitoring myself and the other signal I send into a Zoom H4N recorder where I record the complete mix as I hear it over my headphones.
Sean P Twomey Haha Cool!
My drummer has a roland td 1k but he only plays it. He haven't stopped to think other things that he can do with that kit. For example he recently discovered that he can play along a song by using the mix in input hahaha.
Do you think that it is possible to record this kit only connecting it to a cellphone? (Using a typical 3.5mm cable only)
I'm sure it could work, but you'd need to test.
Jonah Paz yeah i do that
Thanks Sean! Joaquin! The cable that you are using is a mini jack TRS ? Or is it only TS? Also, What cell phone do you use? Any app? Maybe I have a faulty cable, or a wrong cable or my cell phone is the problem.
GREAT VIDEO!!!
Hey, thanks for the kind words. I'm glad you enjoyed it. Have a great week. Cheers, Sean
Where can i get that video game?
The game is Guitar Hero (amzn.to/2K8WZZj), but I play along to the drumless videos, so I'm not actually playing the game.
Sean P Twomey thx!
Rock band 3, it's on xbox 360 and ps3
I can appreciate what you're doing here, sincerely. However, anyone who has the nerve to complain about the noise after seeing you've made not only a very considerate decision to not disturb them AND at an added expense mind you, needs a swift kick in the groin! And if you're too nice a guy to do it, send them my way and I'll be happy to do the honors!
Hey Patrick, thanks for your kind comment. I am well aware that I’m overly considerate. On that note, I think it’s time to upgrade to an acoustic kit 😄🤘
Thanks so much for your video!! What amp are you connecting to?
Hi, thanks for your question. I don't play using an amp, I play using the Sennheiser Momentum 2.0 over-ear headphones: amzn.to/2F7hMLw
You can see all my recommended gear here: seanptwomey.com/gear/
I hope this helps. Cheers, Sean
Awesome!!
Thanks for watching and commenting.
