Chord progressions on pop music are not that hard to figure out, once you get used to recognizing chord changes to learn a song you start to automatically notice those same patterns in other songs. As Rivers said, there's only so many chords.
yeah it's a very common skill among musicians, at least i thought it was very common
idk why he didn't mention it but the progression actually went 4 2 3 6, the 6 is just more of a passing chord tho so it makes sense, he's right about it being less common as well

I didn’t realize that rivers was so adept at music theory. No disrespect, I love his music and he’s obviously a talented composer/songwriter. Just not super typical for rock-types to be so in tune to the theory side of things.

@@mcstench8913 for sure. A lot of those styles rely on complicated progressions and/or time signatures. Aside from the solo's which are always impeccable, Weezer's music just seems more straight forward. I'll have to go back and listen to a bunch of it again, now that I'm more interested in theory.

Amazing how rivers seem to be the professor of music
These two are real gentlemen. Even if they don't like the music you can see they are actually listening to each song and trying to solve the technical parts of how the artist/band composed it. They look for the music in the music and always focus on the positive. In another episode you could tell they weren't into the Kelly Clarkson song, but Rivers said "Man, I wish I could sing like that." Real musicians!
I've always been amazed by rappers ability to rap so out of the pocket but sounding so good regardless and now I know that some might be just pushing their vocals. OMG why did I never think of that. Genius
