Jackson and Grosscup provided plenty of great entertainment for a kid in that era. College football on Saturday afternoons were awesome. Thanks.

I love that the player didn't celebrate everytime they made a play. Today players need to show more humility. And love all the old TV adds..

Seems like all major institutions were respected then and there was no east coast bias towards the west coast.

Keith Jackson would be the lead play-by-play voice the following year.

I think UCLA C Randy Cross should be in the HOF for his play in San Fran and leading them into greatness.

He was a good color commenter as well. Enjoyed when he used to do Notre Dame games.

Do a shot every time the announcers say, "a tie will give UCLA the Rose Bowl." You'll be drunk by halftime. You'll have passed out by the third quarter.

USC head coach John McKay was 50 years old on this telecast.
I guess head-coaching can prematurely age a person.

For me it was Bill Flemming during the '70s (he hosted ABC's College Football preview on late Friday nights after the ABC blockbuster sitcom lineup and then the post game Scoreboard on Saturdays)
And during the 80's it was Barry Tompkins calling the Pac10 games and color usually for Cal Bear's games.

Calvin Peterson, one of my favorite Cowboys linebackers. He got caught up, unprotected, in the expansion draft, and was chosen by the Tampa Bay Bucs. He fought injuries the rest of his career.

USC's announced starting lineup all over the place: a linebacker, punter, offensive guards, safety, Lynn Swann. Maybe they decided to just throw the graduating seniors out there for TV

It's incredible the talent that flowed out of USC during the 1970s. Personally, I'm more familiar with the USC teams of the late 70s. But, not to my surprise, there's no shortage of talent for the Trojans on this team either.

Pass interference against UCLA? Of course. The coaches & AP poll have always been on USC’s nutsack. So happy we have that 9 year win streak against SUC back in the 90’s. “Voting” for a national champion? Hahaa weak. Happy we have a playoff.
