all he does is hand it off to RB and run with football sometimes he sure doesn't pass much. if he didn't get injured, he wouldn't got drafted from NFL. what team going draft a qb never pass much. if he did get drafted, he probably been a WR
Harmon isn't the only actor in the UCLA lineup. Right tackle Eugene Clark starred in the cop series "Night Heat" on Canadian television. He also played for the Toronto Argonauts in the CFL in late 70's
Holy crap, UCLA running the wishbone-I never knew, since I went there a decade later, during the Aikman years. Lots of future pros in this game Thanks for posting!
Thanks for sharing. The Trojans were fun to watch. Enjoyed watching Harmon and the talented backs of the Bruins. The Trojans had some studs. Davis was an excellent college player. You do a real nice job.
To this day, the UCLA-USC game is the most eye pleasing game in sport. The colors of both teams on the field at the same time, there’s nothing in sports that can compare.
Pepper Rodgers actually had a nice little run as UCLA head coach, but couldn't beat SC. He famously upset #1 Nebraska during his tenure and his offenses gained a lot of high powered yards behind a massive offensive line. The problem with his wishbone offense was SC's defense was just too fast, physical and filled with tons of future NFL athletes for such a one dimensional attack. John McKay famously drew up how to defend the wishbone on a cocktail napkin for reporters the night before the game and basically executed the plan to perfection. Teams followed suit and it became the model on how to defend it. His fast outside linebackers would crash down on the snap of the ball and smack the the runner every play. Mark Harmon once said his only memory of this game was constantly looking up from the ground and seeing the back of a red jersey walk back to the huddle. UCLA went to Dick Vermiel and a pro style offense after this game and upset #1Ohio State in the 75 season with Sciara.
To paraphrase someone else's comment, thank you so much for posting video of Mark Harmon handing off the ball. Good thing he chose acting over a football career.
Brutal football You can't win with the wishbone offense and give up the ball 6 times. Why did the UCLA coach Pepper Rogers keep switching out NCIS's Mark Harmon and John Sciarra. The offense has to have some continuity to be successful
This should be considered one of the all-time USC-UCLA rivalry games. Rose Bowl on the line. Both teams rated in the top 10. USC -- Hayden, McKay Jr., Obradovich, Anthony Davis, Rod McNeil, Artimus Parker, Richard Wood. UCLA - Mark Harmon, John Sciarra, Kermit Johnson, James McAllister, Rod's brother Fred McNeil on defense. Harmon and Sciarra shuttled the QB position for UCLA. McNeil and Davis traded carries. Hard fought contest all the way. The difference came within the turnover category. Some oddities - Anthony Davis kicking off for USC, John Sciarra returning punts. This game has all the stuff that made this rivalry what it is.
Wow college football used to look like our modern day nfl games. Now I wonder why is this "Wishbone Formation" no longer used?? Edit: Prior to this video I've never seen "Wishbone Formation" used
UCLA coulda kicked a field goal with 39 seconds left and then attempted an onside kick. Instead, they wasted the rest of the time trying to get the touchdown first. Seems pretty stupid when teams do that.
This game immediately followed the Ohio State-Michigan 10-10 game. If there should have ever Been a playoff, 1973 was the year. Alabama and Notre Dame were unbeaten, with the difference being a missed extra point in the Sugar Bowl on New Eve. Then Ohio State blew out USC the next day. Notre Dame was awarded the national title despite either Michigan or Ohio State probably were better.
Pat Haden, Randy Cross, Lynn Swann, and many more. So many future NFL players in this game.
Thanks so much for uploading this. Finally some extensive footage of Mark Harmon back in his glory days at UCLA.
Yes the same day Ohio State and Michigan played the controversial 10 - 10 tie in Ann Arbor November 24 1973
Of course, great athlete though Mark was (and great actor though he is nowadays)...USC still won the game. FIGHT ON, TROJANS!! ✌️✌️🤩🤩😎😎✌️✌️

OMG Pat Haden, Randy Cross and Lynn Swann playing alongside Gibbs from NCIS. Priceless!
Just incase someone missed it.
UCLA’s QB is future actor
Mark Harmon ( NCIS fame)
Harmon isn't the only actor in the UCLA lineup. Right tackle Eugene Clark starred in the cop series "Night Heat" on Canadian television. He also played for the Toronto Argonauts in the CFL in late 70's
How could we have missed that? DUH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

no play clock, no replay, no targeting, just good old American football
To this day, the UCLA-USC game is the most eye pleasing game in sport. The colors of both teams on the field at the same time, there’s nothing in sports that can compare.
A Running Back(Anthony Davis Probable Starter in some games)kicking off, A Starting Quarterback returning punts ...ah when College Football was great!
I don't remember Davis ever kicking off. That is wild. I watched all the national USC games back then so I'm sure I watched it.
The dude never throws a pass.

He looked good to me. He played pretty well.
@@davidramirez4810I'm old enough to have seen Harmon play. His talent did not leave much to remember.
Check out Lynn Swann's future '74 draft mate and Steelers teammate, the late Jimmy Allen (#83) at RCB for UCLA.
John SCIARRA was a great athlete . I saw him play in h.s .He was the QUICKEST white guy I saw play in h.s.
5:32 one of the best plays in the Wishbone. Fake to FB like option but run power at the def end. Tough. UCLA's first TD is the same play.

Just good ole football.. never to return.. so sad..

John Sciarra was the QUICKEST white h.s athlete I ever saw.
Jethro Gibbs the man the legend no 7
So college football always had the goalposts in the back of the end zone
Now I see why USC lost the rosebowl vs Ohio St...they had trouble stopping the run
Wow college football used to look like our modern day nfl games. Now I wonder why is this "Wishbone Formation" no longer used??

Ol’ Handoff Harmon
Mr Shoop
Where was John Sciarra? UCLA had Mark Harmon Quarterbacking the Bruins.
Harmon only at qb because of dads influence. They could have anyone playing that position.
6:02 run Gibbs
UCLA coulda kicked a field goal with 39 seconds left and then attempted an onside kick. Instead, they wasted the rest of the time trying to get the touchdown first. Seems pretty stupid when teams do that.
Harmon ever throw the ball
There is NO PASSING game. All wishbone... Pat Haden did it later in the game
Holy cow! What formation is UCLA running?
the triple option wishbone. can't be stopped when done right. it's beautiful.
@@shawnflanagan4995 Nice! I was thinking it was a wishbone but it just looked a bit crazier. I can see Kyle running this now that he has Trey Lance.
UCLA only ran the wishbone under Pepper Rodgers, who coached the Bruins from 1971-1973 before taking the job at his alma mater, Georgia Tech.
@@shawnflanagan4995 True of any offense....
Precursor to USC losing to Ohio State in Rose 🌹

Boy, Keith Jackson's eyesight had already started to fail. He misses a lot of what actually happened.
Ucla ran the wishbone?
Harmon was better in Summer School than this game...
that's a very funny movie.
The only UCLA Quarterback I remembered in 1973 was John Sciarra.
Oh 6 turn over’s
more turnovers back in those days.
Nah. Not almost filled today. Not almos filled today. Not almo filled today. /
