I was AT this game. I started watching USC football games with my dad in the late 60’s. I was a 13 years old 8th grader, the son of a USC grad and a football player myself. I have been a USC football fan for over 50 years, and this game stands out as one of, if not the best game I’ve ever seen. I enrolled at USC 5 years later and my daughter just graduated. Fight On!✌🏻🤨
50 year SC fan. I was 10 years old when I watched that game. Remember being sad at halftime when they were losing 24-6. Took a bath , came out and it was 24-20.AD ran the opening KO back for a TD and the onslaught was on. I was literally jumping up and down and screaming in my living room the rest of the game. The most amazing thing I have ever seen! Outscored the Irish 35-0 in the third quarter!! The greatest quarter of football ever!! My all time greatest memory of USC. I can still hear how loud the crowd was and how crazy the fans and players were going. Have never seen the Coliseum so on fire..Truly incredible. I'll always remember it..
I was there with my uncle. Everyone else went camping. ND was totally dominating USC. Remember it was 24 to 0 until a late second quarter td. I told my uncle “if we could just return the 2nd half kickoff for A TD”. I still get chills that was an incredible moment. The coliseum shook to its core. The ensuing kickoff when we stuffed the ND return man thats when I knew we would win. 55 points in 17 minutes, incredible!
Me too. This is one of the first games I remember watching as a kid. This and the Game of the Century Nebraska at Oklahoma where Johnny Rodgers took the punt back. Two of the greatest games of all time. It's been gradually down hill since...
That’s not even close to truth. Okla state had Texas down 35-7 in 2004 and Texas won 55-35 and the exact same thing happened the following year between them. It’s probably happened other times as well
Perhaps The 1 of My Best Memories of S.C. Football🏈 ✌️❤💛...IwasThisClose to Turn it Off..I Couldn't Believe they were getting a BeatDown by Noted Thier Lame...Then The Second Half Was #28 A.D. I watched that game as a 15 year old. At the time, I was a huge Notre Dame fan. In those days, although the Irish were really good, they struggled to beat USC on a consistent basis. The late TD by the Trojans in the first half would radically alter the game. It's still one of the memorial games I've ever watched.
I was 8 yrs old when I saw this game on ABC when it happened. Ktla Kcop Khj and KTTV used to replay this game alot over the years watched it every single time. But the day I remember most is watching this game and then War of the Gargantuas right after an 8 year olds ultimate dream!!!!!
I was a junior at ND that fall, and after coming into halftime up 24-6--especially after the little lift of blocking the extra point I think the best word to describe how we felt in the second half was 'bumfuzzled," before Bobby Bowden even ever came up with the word. Sensational performance by AD.
In 1974 I was a senior at USC, and remember the short and warm walk from campus to the coliseum that day. I remember too how upsetting so many of us felt at halftime. Yet something began to happen as the teams returned to the field to begin the second half. It's indescribable, yet something was in the air: an almost electric sense of anticipation. Something was about to happen that was so powerful that it bled across time. I remember turning to a stranger on my right and saying, "Can you feel it?" and he simply said, "Yes." And then Notre Dame kicked off and Mr. Davis did what did. Moving right to left before me standing stunned above the 20 yard line he ran...into history. There will likely never be another football game like this.
Woody Hayes somehow got to work this game as a guest analyst for ABC, giving him a chance to see USC up close before playing them for the third straight year in the Rose Bowl. I'm sure he was crowing in the first half, but he sounded a bit concerned by the end. (USC won the Rose Bowl on a late touchdown pass from Haden to McKay, and then a two-point conversion to Diggs from Haden).
billsav57 I’ve been a Trojan fan since my freshman year at SC in 1958. I had the good luck as a graduate student to see both this ND game and the subsequent Rose Bowl. This year and these games have been cherished memories ever since. Fight On!
I know that over the years Ohio State has lost 3 or 4 games to USC by 1 point and made some bad decisions near the end of those games. At least they won 24-7 over USC in the Cotton Bowl a couple of years ago.
ABC tried an experiment that season in which a major college football coach would serve as a guest analyst during an off week for their team. Usually they were paired up with Keith Jackson.
@@cumulus1234 USC beat Ohio State 42-17 in the 1973 Rose Bowl. Ohio State returned the favor in the "74 Rose Bowl, won like 42-21. This season ended with the 1975 Rose Bowl where USC won 18-17.
I was a junior in high school in 1974. USC was my favorite team. I played football and wanted so badly to go to SC. I wrote USC on my shoes, book covers, on my desk at school on everything I could write on. Including my hands and arms 🤣
That was a great time for the 14 year old me. Grreatest college game ever followed by greatest nfl game ever as i was huge into usc and oakland raiders who beat miami in great playoff game.
I was a 11th grader in high school. Lived in the same apartment building as Shelton diggs and Ron Bush. The next year USC beat Ohio State in the Rose Bowl when Shelton Diggs caught that two point conversion to win the game. Those were the days.
I could swear Woody Hayes was rooting for the Trojans. Never in my wildest dreams would I ever imagine that. This was Ara Parseghian's last regular season game. It's good he went out with the Orange Bowl win against Alabama, but this game basically ended it for him.
I was a sixteen year old kid from Kansas watching this game. SC was my favorite team because they were the first major CFB team I saw with a black Qb (Jimmy Jones) a few years earlier. I absolutely hated ND, especially how they'd run up the score on lesser teams. It was delicious listening to Woody Hayes moaning on air and muttering to himself, and seeing Ara Parsegian (spelled wrong) in agony to the BTA the Trojans put on them! Anthony Davis ran angry, and another Heisman winner Ricky Bell was on KO team waiting his turn at tailback...ahhh the memories😅
You must have missed 93 playoff oilers vs buffalo bills. That game was the most similar to this. And it even had OJ Simpsons last hurrah as siðeline reporter before he got into some "trouble".
I’ve been watching college football since 1967 and I saw this game at my grandparents house at the time. This was an incredible game if you are a Trojan fan, but terrible if you’re a Notre Dame fan. Believe it or not, there’s been other games like this since then. I can recall at least two where one team built a big lead only to have the other team come back and blown them out.
@@bbigjohnson069 since they only scored 55 points in the entire game, just how exactly did they score 66 in 17 mins? I don’t expect to hear back from ya

I listened to this game on the radio at work. After the first half, I almost turned it off. Almost. Pretty good recruiting by SC. Dave Farmer starts at FB, Ricky Bell and Mosi Tatupu are the backups. Attaway girls, 20:11!
