From a Michigan fan, I am happy to welcome USC to the Big Ten. It will be fun to play them in L.A. And for them to come to Ann Arbor. As for Notre Dame. You guys had your chance to join the Big Ten. You didn't want to! Now, the Big Ten may be the reason ND doesn't make the play offs. The Big Ten may now be the king of college football!

I met Justin's dad...Antonio ''Huggy Bear'' Vargas.... in of all places, Sheffield England, several years back. We have an American Football League here in the UK and we were having the Championships of every Division in the Senior League and he had heard about it, drove over all the way from London to watch the games. Funny thing is, many people were whispering if that was Huggy Bear (those old enough to know lol), and as he walked by me I thought he looked just like him, so I took the chance and asked him...and of course it was him...and he talked to me for about a half hour or so, as he was genuinely interested in what was going on and had some questions. He's every bit as cool as he was as Huggy, and a very gracious man. He is certainly proud of Justin, as he was still a Raider when I met Huggy.

2002 USC Trojans were one of the Great Teams in College Football History.
They played, by far, the toughest schedule ever. Here is a breakdown.
They finished 11-2 and #4 in the Country.
Their Schedule (Rankings are End Of Year Rankings)
    Vs 9-4 #14 Auburn - Win
    At 9-5 #20 Colorado - Win
    At 11-2 #7 Kansas State - Loss
Vs 8-5 Oregon State - Win
    At 10-3 #10 Washington State - Loss
    Vs 7-5 California - Win
    Vs 7-6 Washington - Win
    At 7-6 Oregon - Win
    At 2-9 Stanford - Win
Vs 8-6 Arizona State - Win
    At 8-5 UCLA - Win
    Vs 10-3 #17 Notre Dame - Win
    Bowl vs 11-2 #8 Iowa - Win
Look at those first 5 games!
    At #7, #10, #20
    Home vs #14 and a 8-5 Team.
6 Road Games vs Teams with a Record of 47-31 (45-27 minus USC)
6 Home Games vs Teams with a Record of 49-29 (49-23 minus USC)
Combined record of teams played was 105-62 (63% Winning Percentage, 103-51 record minus USC, for a 69% Winning Percentage)
Imagine playing a schedule where the teams have a winning percentage of 69% in games not involving you and going 11-2!!

I was at this game decked out in ND gear. Pretty rough night for the Irish. First of three straight 31-point losses to SC, 8 straight overall. Also the game that won the Heisman for Carson Palmer.
For context, Ty Willingham started this season 8-0 before losing 11 of his next 14 games. Those losses included 44-13 and 45-14 against USC, 38-0 vs Michigan, and 37-0 against Florida State.

I was at that game and really enjoyed watching the Trojans emerge from the black cloud era of Paul Hackett. This game also showed the USC alumni that they were so wrong about the hiring of Pete Carroll. They were fixated about his past coaching career with the Jets. They were so WRONG!!!! This team was the beginning of a juggernaut that dominated college football. I really enjoyed watching Justin Fargas success at SC after his devastating injury while playing at Michigan. That guy would hit the line so hard that you could hear the crack of his helmet as he punished defenders. Pete Carroll, Norm Chow, Steve Sarkisian, Ken Norton Jr, Justin Fargas, Mike Williams, Matt Leinart, Reggie Bush, Troy Polamalu, Brian Cushing, Dallas Sarkes, Kerry Colbert and company thank you for that amazing period in SC history. Fight On!!

Start of a dynasty. I don't think the period of USC from 2002-2005 can ever be matched. Sure they lost a game here or there they shouldn't have (2005 Rose Bowl being one ... they forgot to play the 4th quarter🙂), but these teams' dominance has never been matched.

The one game that won Carson Palmer the Heisman over two far more deserving candidates: Larry Johnson and, most especially, the great Brad Banks of Iowa.

    • @aaronrider4051
      @aaronrider4051 3 года назад

      @@RequiemForABuckeye You are wrong.
His worst game of the year was against Ohio State, who, you know, only won the national title. He had 1 touchdown and 4.5 yards from scrimmage against the Buckeyes. Doesn't sound like much until you remember that Ohio State had an amazing defense. And Larry Johnson had a better game against them than Willis McGahee (Miami) or Chris Perry (Michigan). The only team that actually ran the ball well against the 2002 Buckeyes was - who else? - Wisconsin.
But I wouldn't have voted for LJ for Heisman. I would have voted for Brad Banks.
Notre Dame's secondary was complete trash, but it was the hype around this game that got Palmer the trophy.

What a stupid and moronic take. The only reason Ty Willingham got the job was because the university’s first choice, George O’Leary (who’s white in case you couldn’t tell by his name) lied on his résumé and resigned - even though the school said he didn’t have to. Willingham was their fallback in the wake of the O’Leary fiasco.
