Wow!! That light hack is brilliant!! My boyfriend and I have been trying to find a cool light fixture in our basement for MONTHS. But since the ceilings are so low, we were afraid to go any deeper than 4"-6". I can see this done with a wooden fruit bowl, or even a black plastic succulent bowl! GENIUS!!!

A few years ago I got a brass bowl like that and used a pendant light kit to make a light. I love the led inside way better than the light bulb hanging down.
I'm with Marnie; building Ikea furniture is the best! (Especially if you've ever tried to build furniture from other places...I still don't hate it, but there's always issues, whereas Ikea stuff goes together so beautifully, you're never missing pieces, and the instructions are clear.)

I don't totally agree with the idea that painting after laying the floor is the wrong order. The color and texture of the floor can do it or don't with the wall color.
She's talking more about the absolute mess that can occur with painting. Would have been easier to paint without the flooring as she wouldn't have had to put covering on the floor to protect it.
Glad you went for the white walls. Maybe relocate the accesshole to attic - we did that in our home. Stay safe and best wishes from Australia 🤗
I was so unnerved when you found lead paint in your bedroom floor. I did not know about that paint to "cover over" the lead paint. I agree with you that the very best choice was to do a whole new floor and NOT be concerned with any future problems. Lookin' good

What a safe lead-free solution. Flooring, OMGoodness is legit choice of texture. IKEA is an amazing closet system. Can hardly wait for #3 video reveal. Hats off to your 3 peeps in helping with room.

I had to put my sweet 17 year old dog to sleep a couple days ago so seeing your pooch was very comforting.
So I quite literally laid flooring by myself in 2 rooms and I had so much more pain than I ever expected afterwards. Way more taxing than one word guess.....until you do it.
Okay just gotta say the bowl light hack, genius! Pretty! Oh and the vanity is gorgeous....(yes I sang that!)

My dear Dad was a painter and definitely flooring first. You can protect the floor from the paint easier than protecting the walls from the knocks of hammers and carpet stretchers

To fill the gap between wardrobe and ceiling, have you considered putting brass lights on the top of the system that point at the inside of the wardrobe? They can also work as atmosphere lights.
My only question is, why is there still such a thing as 'ceiling white'? Surely, if we've all learned something from interior design over the past few years, it's that we can paint ceilings any colour we like, just like walls. Yes, it can be white, but why a specific shade dictated by the paint manufacturers? Given that the room has a sloping ceiling, and the walls were being painted white (which was a gorgeous colour, just like vanilla ice cream as Danie described), I would almost certainly have painted the whole room the same colour, which helps to disguise that 'cut off' and make the room feel bigger.
I think "ceiling paint" drips less and dries quicker, hence it's a separate product. Although it could be a marketing ploy.
@@swiinka I understand that the product itself might be different, and of course that's potentially a very good reason for using it over large areas in particular, it was more a comment on the prescribed colour. What would be ideal is being able to choose the colour, and then having a choice of what type of paint to have it in - matt, eggshell, gloss, satinwood, ceiling, etc. I know some companies offer this option for certain paint types, although I'm not sure about ceiling paint.
@@rebecarendell yes, I understand, the point I was trying to make (and obviously failed) is that if a product is specialised then options are limited. Goes for everything, from clothing to DIY supplies. I suppose that's why DIY is still a thing :)

Danie! You two should have done a building an Ikea Pax build video for space planning. There's a lot of people who are clueless how to do it. We just built the largest one for a friend as a linen closet. Can you believe a builder built a $1K+M USD House without a linen closet? Neither could I!
I think there was another good reason to paint the room white. Because of the steep angle of the ceiling where it follows the pitch of the roof, that's a tricky area if you're painting a color that contrasts with the ceiling color. Do you paint it the ceiling color and create a color block that cuts into the look of the walls? Do you paint it the wall color and create a strange line where the ceiling and "wall" meet at the top? Do you paint the ceiling the wall color to avoid strange lines and contrasts? I think if you ever go with a dark wall color and keep the white ceiling, your best bet would be to do only an accent wall and put it on the wall that is not "cut" by the sloped ceiling. But that's the wall with the wardrobe, so maybe you'd have to paint the wardrobe the wall color.... All of that to say, good choice on the white!

Love the light. So creative. I had a glass dish ceiling light in a bedroom and I found a sort of flat black wire basket for 2 bucks (at TJ Maxx) that I was able to layer over it (it was larger than the glass dish at a nice visual ratio), and all I had to do was screw it in with the light fixture (nipple?) screw because the wire was close enough together that the screw bit held it in place. It was stunning.
While I know you were like, "eh, white", it's a great color to start a room. I've only been able to have apartments, and the generic white walls have allowed me to have numerous different color palettes by simply switching out a comforter & some decor or when I started to buy my own furniture to replace the hand-me-downs that didn't match. While, yes, a painted room gives bigger vibes, a white room allows you to change it with your changing whims or seasons. So honestly, I understand why you went with white. :)
Also, if you just pay for my plane ticket to Toronto from Minneapolis, I'll come up & build your IKEA furnture whenever Marnie isn't available

Thanks for making it real and showing how much REAL WORK it is to remodel. Can relate to the desire to procrastinate on day two after a hard day's work. Glad you selected the white, you definitely need the brightness in the room as you have only the one window. Also think you would have grown bored with the sage green, nice for accents, not so nice in entire room. This way you have the option of adding and changing out accessories in whatever colors you wish.
