This is the best channel of this type, that's why I keep coming back over and over. The condition of the artifacts that were found just amazing. As long as you keep making videos I'll be watching. Thank you preserving the things for future generations to see and learn from. Thank You for everything you do. Peace, Health and Happiness to you.
Back home in Chattanooga, a farmer was digging holes for fence posts, hit a U.S.3inch Ordnance Rifle, the brass tube, some iron fittings, heavy chains, remains of bolts etc...were found. As a kid we played in the old confederate rifle pits on missionary ridge, found buttons, .58 caliber rounds, etc...
That is awesome, I have thought about looking around near the Yadkin River near where I live and seeing what can be found. I know there have been musket balls and other artifacts found near there.
@@martymcpeak4748 The things that can be found, spooky to think about some of em, when I was in high school we used to camp in the Chickamauga battlefield park, a buddy and I found 2 Graves under a thicket, notified the park rangers, THEYdidnt know about em. Anyways I can talk forever, thank you for getting in touch, write again when you get time.
@@greenhawk_1495 The Battle of Yellow Bayou took place not too far from here, one of the last engagements of the war, I was digging in the backyard, found some artifacts, a .44 revolver ball, a .54 caliber carbine round, some small buckles etc... I appreciate the way you clean your artifacts, unlike some who rub and rub and sometimes destroy what they find. I looked up the fork, Rostfrei. Aug. Merten Ww., founded in 1910 in Grafrath, Germany
Looks like you found the remains of a foxhole that came under heavy fire, causing the troops to retreat and leave the heavy boxes of ammo that would have slowed them down. Looks like the one helmet is painted white, for winter use. Good find!
I spent 9 months in Slovakia in the early 2000s and we once went to a flea market where there was a guy selling some amazing WW2 equipment including a very nice SS camo smock and several quite good quality helmets. .
The German infantry wasn't as mechanized as it appeared, it used a lot of horses and soldiers marched to get from place to place. Looking at this collection, like all the others, there's a feeling that some German marched from the Fatherland to some God-forsaken swamp in the USSR just to die......for what? I find these video fascinating. Partly for the history and partly for people who seem to be able to stand being up to their hips in mud and water to pull this stuff out of the ooze. Fascinating!
To die for what? That truly is the question isn't it? As a combat veteran I can share my opinion on those just a little bit for what it's worth. Let me explain to you what they died for.... Not for politics, not for the love of country, not for anything Noble at all. Combat veterans, fight and die for each other. That's it it's that simple. They were sent there by their country, and probably very patriotic at the time and some even volunteered to go no doubt. But when you're there? And the bullets are flying around you? None of that stuff matters anymore. The only thing that matters to a true combat veteran, or should I say someone that is in combat and not yet a veteran. Is the person standing next to you. It truly is that simple. The whole goal of war for a combat soldier, is to get home, and for their friends to make it home. I hope you understand what I'm trying to say.
The good condition is from the heavy concentrations of tanic acid in the soil, this preserves ferrous and non-ferrous metals. Of course that is what is used to tan leather. No or little oxygen and a mostly organic soil base protected these items. Out of the ground these items will quickly deteriorate if not protected correctly. The white helmet would indicate that the soldiers were captured during the winter. The loose footwear would indicate that the soldiers were wearing felt boots and put their regular boots aside. Rifles were generally discarded but any machine guns would have been taken along. All this equipment is heavy and anything not valuable to the soldiers would be left behind. After digging up all this ordnance I thought that the comment "dangerous razor" was ironic.

Very nice video - congratulations! I read that you can save the leather with oil. Put the bags in the oil after cleaning with water. Use coconut oil or safflower oil until the leather no longer absorbs the oil. All the best. backbreaking work.
I can already imagine a couple german soldiers who were there just sitting and chatting and here 75-80 years later digging up their belongings and in great condition its amazing
The conditions are amazing. I live in Germany in the Eifel region, and when we were kids we dug out some WW2 remnants, like bullets. But they were all in very bad condition. Rusted all over.
That rifle is very beautiful. Can you make it shootable again ? I have seen people who renovate these weaponesand sometimes they can shoot, most of the times not, but this rifle looks in very good shape.
It might be possible. The action certainly looks like it could be disassembled and cleaned up. The inside of the barrel is the question: while it may have been encased in mud when found, water came first, and it's pretty likely that it rusted up. If not, then you could have a functional rifle. There's certainly enough ammunition around - IF you can keep it according to local regulations.
The 98k looks good..I've seen loads of Mosins pulled from the dirt, but not this carbine yet. 98k выглядит хорошо. Я видел множество мосинов, вытащенных из грязи, но еще не этот карабин.
I am surprised there is no body found nearby (or it is too far away, ie. 5m next to digging place). Keep up good work! Please add more english subtitles :).
I think he said they were bleach tablets..... But I keep thinking they're Pervitin (Methamphetamine tablets) whenever they find those bakelite containers.

@@williamsoileau1802 Very cool
The Mauser rifle with the bolt and its mechanism still encased in the wood is pretty amazing after 80 years of being burried in the mud.
High concentration of tannin in the clay.
I wonder if it would still fire with a good clean
@@josephdawson5846 I am sure it would. Surviving to fire again may be an issue though.

I don't think the Germans made it out of that foxhole myself - either KIA or Captured
My word!.......that is a gold mine of finds. Not easy digging in that deep mud.

Yeah well it's hard to bring a halftrack to a swamp

They would have been conscripted to fight so basically had no choice.
